Hello Members,

I have a doubt regarding Goddess Lakshmi Devi, the Divine Consort of Lord

Vishnu.

The most popular version is that Goddess Lakshmi is the Daughter of Lord of the

Ocean of Milk, i.e., She is Ksheerabdi Kanya. But I also heard that she is the

Daughter of Sage Bhrigu and hence she is also called Bhargavi. I never heard

this version and I got confused.

Please clear this doubt of mine. I only know that Goddess Lakshmi is the

Daughter of Lord of Ocean of Milk. How and when was She born as the Daughter of

Sage Bhrigu? Please tell me this story.

Thank You,

This isn't the first time you've invited me.

I'm very impure. Tamasic to the bone. I collect purient nude photos of

baby Ganesha, like on that book by Cartwright. And naked shots of

Chamunda Kali, with the hooters that hang down to her knees. Woo-hoo,

hubba hubba! Best to take me off your mailing list.

Tantrically,

Is there a need to talk about forms of Devi like this?

I request you to refrain from writing about Devi like this.

This is in poor taste.

My sense of humor may lose something when crossing cultures. If I

offended Satish, I had no intention to do so, and I apologize.

So, I also refer to Ganesha (and Kubera) as "the Fat Boys." And to

Sarasvati and Lakshmi as "the Squabbling Sisters." They are all

represented on my altar, arrayed aound the Shiva Lingam and Yoni Peetha.

Dear all:

I come from a religion which says all paths lead Godward. So IMHO no one can

say this or that or that is wrong or correct.

If you do not like something ignore it. If it is a tecnical issue give your

opinion. It may or may not find support. But we are not intolerent.

IMHO the reality of each person is different from that of others. Each live in a

world of his own.

The group is intended to give expression to all views.

As you know, Nikhilism is also recognised as a path in Hinduism. So why bother

about these things?

Lets go on with our journey while listening to other views also.

If someone needs to talk about two of these deities in one sentence which group

will they join? Will they have to cross post? I'm sorry but this monopoly on

Hinduism is offensive to me.

The reason for objecting is this:

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=hooter

The word is used in a sense of "Vulgar slang".

The dictionary link above can be referred to confirm this.

Hence my question of "is there a **need** for such a usage".

Such vulgar slang was used in the past in the list and I did not(and

will not) care about that. Here it is addressed to devatas, which is

why, I raised an objection.

Devata, Guru and mantra are one and the same? So it is alright to

refer to someone equal to one's Guru by such words?

Will someone feel comfortable to refer to their Guru like that?

Maybe for you it is not, but to some they are and as long as they are

we shall leave it as it is. Like Kochu said, if you dont like, just

ignore it. Each have their own interpretation. As far as this group

is concern we are what we are. Accept us as what we are or please

ignore us.

I agree, they are many ways to the truth and the

Tantric teachings are filled the many ways and

interpretation. I even read that in Tantra anything

goes (maybe this might contested but hey! who are you

to contest this?).

Usually you will find someone with orthodox views and

I guess its ok if we could all respect each other

points of view and interpretation. But when it gets

to the point where someone wants to tell others how to

talk, walk, breath, and even how to worship God then

watch out you have trouble coming.

It is true that religions are interlink but the

assumption here that you have made is that I am

ignorant.

Attacks on usage of language on beliefs and different

perspective is what leads to conflicts.

What is so vulgar?

Exactly! And there isn't enough traffic to maintain so many different

lists.

I am more into synthesis than analysis. There are many deities, but in

approaching Advaita I prefer to explore how each is a manifestation of

the one Brahman.

And the insistance of "purity" (and a consequential rejection of what

some "authority" has judged "impure") is a real turn-off to me.

Tantra is "impure." Sexuality is "impure." Householders are

"impure."

The lower castes are "impure." Humor is "impure." Well, not in the

universe as *I* perceive it. Didn't Shree Ramakrishna perform a ritual

for his <chelas> where he touched his tongue to sandal powder, and then

to his own excrement, and said, "All is Brahman"?

Attack? You call the sentence "I request you to

refrain from using such language to talk about

Devi...", an attack? I fail to see how a request is

seen as an attack?

Beliefs and interpretations: Ex:If somebody wrongly says

hinduism preaches cannabalism(just let us assume

somebody says that- due to either being misinformed or due to

misunderstanding some passage). What is wrong with

showing appropriate quotes from scriptures and showing

that hindusim doesnt preach cannibalism? Why shud that

be viewed as an attack on somebody's belief?

When somebody says hinduism is such and such, if I happen to see

something opposite, I will ask ppl to give refs for their beleifs

and I will provide refs to show my viewpoint. Why shud this

be viewed as a war or a personal attack?

If I found myself mistaken, I am wrong and will change(or atleast

try to change). If they are wrong, they are.

As simple as that.

I dont think insistence on purity is really a turn off for anyone.

If it is really so, then why do people take a shower, or clean

themselves? Arent these all acts of purity?

Is it that we insist purity when it comes to things which make us

uncomfortable, and purity is a turn off when it is introduced as

part of a spiritual discipline, because it isnt quite comfortable to

follow? Like material purity,-- spiritual purity, till a certain

stage.

Some authorities judging impure/unfit:

Ex: Shri Sankara Menon says Tulasi should not be used for Navavarana

puja(he said it can be used of LS archana though).

I dont know what to say if somebody finds the above prohibition a

turn-off. If they find it so, then Navavarana puja is not for them

(atleast as they do it in that tradition). Likewise the process of

sadhana in Hinduism/Shaktism has its own rules. If they dont like

them, it is a good idea to follow another path which is more

appealing.

> Tantra is "impure." Sexuality is "impure." Householders

are "impure."

> The lower castes are "impure." Humor is "impure."

Am not aware of a single tantra which says any of the above.

Even vedic traditions dont say most of those above are impure.

>Well, not in the

> universe as *I* perceive it. Didn't Shree Ramakrishna perform a

ritual

> for his <chelas> where he touched his tongue to sandal powder, and

This is exactly what I meant when I said there are kaulikottamas,

and trying to imitate them is a dangerous thing.

One doesnt need to think mystically/spiritually to see how dangerous

the above act is. From a simple standpoint of hygiene such practice

is unhealthy.

Performing the above act(like Sri Ramakrishna did) doesnt make one

realise "All is Brahman". It will only make them unhealthy.

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa did that act because he realised "All is

Brahman".

As a tantra is once quoted "A vira is one who attained mantra

siddhi. Drinking of wine doesnt make a vira".

• The Meanings are well documented for initial understanding at http://www.samachar.com/religion/ganesh.html.

The images for the listing at www.nyganeshtemple.com are under their tittle Publications and either images or slideshow

Should I be able to compile yantra, mantra and image I will post it sometime

This question may not be relevent to this group. I am looking for 16 forms

of ganapathi i.e shodasha ganapathi along with its meaning and mantra. I

have vague understanding but would like to find more. raji.

Dear Sriram tenneti,

Thanks for your mail. The list of ganapathy that your have mentioned is

similar to what I heard. The site that you recommended does not give

information but agasthiar is a publishing site - I shall try to get some

books for that site.

Infuture - if you have more information then please let me know. Thanks once

again. raji.
