  2. SEETA RAAM

    Here is what I have been taught;

    Wednesday = no significance

    Thursday = Vishnu Day

    Friday - Devi Day

    Saturday = Saturn Day

    Sunday = Sun God Day

    Monday = Sri Shiva Day

    Tuesday = Devotee Day

    Snakes are associated with both Sri Vishnu

    (who lies on a serpent couch) and Sri Shiva

    (who has a serpent as a garland).

    Maybe those clues can help.

    Regards

    OM SHANTI

    Hi,

    I am a new member but I used to visit this forum before also. I have a strange issue. I always dream of snakes on tuesdays...they don't harm me ....its usually a brownish-sand coloured snake and doesnt harm me rather it looks scared of me. Today is tuesday, I again had a dream where the same snake was there, it tried to bite me but I did not feel anything, it couldn't bite me for some reason . I have similar dreams every tuesday. I am under the effect of Rahu kaal and sade sati at the present moment and also a devotee of Goddess Durga. I light diya every tuesday. Could there be any connection between the two things ??

    If anybody has any clue then pls help me out.......

  3. It has been said that the Supreme has innumerable names.

    The Supreme is infinite and he cannot be fully comprehended even by the Devas, much less human beings.

    This unlimitedness does not apply only to names but to his forms, qualities, pastimes, knowledge and power.

    However people love to speculate about his names. "His name is this.His name is also that." That is how people speak.

    Often people want to attribute names to the Supreme that are excerpted from non-Vedic literature while denying the very gist of those teachings.

    This is not valid. It is like extracting the name Vasudev Krishna from the Bhagavad Gita and then dismissing the rest of the text.

    Due to his causeless mercy the Supreme hears the prayers of all regardless of the name used. However names carry connotations.

    Therefore he has given us one thousand names with which to worship him. They are the best names to use because they

    remind us of his forms, qualities, pastimes, knowledge and power. Chanting those names is a very auspicious form of worship.

    Those who have devoted themselves to non-Vedic literature will of course choose to worship with the names stipulated in those writings.

    A Sanatan should not disturb or criticize them but he should encourage his fellow Sanatans to follow the path laid out by our scriptures.

  5.

    Does this teaching go, that for sins, the robber does meditation and good works, in order

    to come back to the normal or the right way? He does not repay? Does his conscience become clear?

    Not just any meditation or good works, but specifically "Narada Muni taught him the

    sacred name of 'Rama' and asked him to sit in meditation, chanting the name of Rama"

    He does not repay?

    After you have thoroughly cleansed yourself

    with a bath, who is there to repay?

    Does his conscience become clear?

    "Then, he told Ratnakara that his tapasya (meditation) paid off and that the Lord was pleased with him."

  6. Dear Appolonius,

    I also had serious problems when I was in Kerala but Sri Vishnu allowed me to see them through. First of all I assume that you understand that suicide is never an answer. If you don't face this trial successfully in this life you will have to face it again in a future one. You said that the Vishnu mantras are giving you some relief so take encouragement from that and intensify them in these ways: 1. Make sure you are on pure veg diet (no meat, fish, eggs, etc.) if not already; offer all food and drink to Shree Vishnu before consuming. 2. Abstain from sexual intercourse until this problem is over. 3. Go to bed early so that you can do Vishnu mantras between 4:00 am - 5:00 am - I have found this to be the most powerful. Do not take anything but water until you are done with that morning sadhana. I wish you success.

  7.

    Can some one tell me whether Lord Rama was more powerful or the ravana? Ramayana gives accounts that Ravana had powers to conquer anything in the universe?? Can some one plz explain. Om Namah Shivaya!

    After years of performing severe austerities, the Creator told Ravana to

    ask for a boon. He asked that he be invincible to defeat from any devas

    or demons. The boon was granted. He didn't think to ask for protection

    from men and animals since he considered them insignificant. Sri Vishnu

    incarnated as a man (Sri Rama) and with the help of an army of monkeys

    destroyed Ravana. In this way Ravana's reign of terror and oppression was

    ended without contradicting the boon that he was given from the Creator.

    Every time Sri Rama seemed to be in dire straights, we must remember that

    he was predestined to triumph over Ravana. Sri Vishnu is all-powerful

    and could easily counter any threat before it even manifests. However he

    chooses to incarnate Himself and enjoy these lilas (pastimes) for our benefit.

    The Padma Purana says that by simply remembering the lilas of Sri Vishnu

    we pass beyond birth and death.

  8. mukeshraj, you sound as if you already believe it and since it seems

    to have encouraged you, why question it? Sri Vishnu, who dwells equally

    in everyone is also known as Maheshvara - The Supreme Controller.

    Therefore nothing, pleasant or unpleasant can happen to us unless

    He permits. The question is not was He in your dream,

    the question is - where is He not?

  9. You should immediately take to a strict vegan diet (no meat, fish eggs or dairy products) from a wide variety of whole foods. Eliminate fried foods, processed foods, etc. Take no oil except for extra-virgin olive oil. Take the time to cook your own food so that you know it is prepared properly. Also eat plenty of raw fruits, vegetables and nuts along with your cooked food - this is important - the sicker you are the more you

    can benefit from adding raw foods to your diet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFFTcSIg6wk)

    Here is a raw food demonstration:

    Here is the science to back up what I am saying:

    Also, give the video games a rest and do scripture study and chant.

    I am confident that this can help you.

  10. This is completely outrageous. It is also just another indicator of the sad reality that there are places that are not ready for any kind of Hinduism. For development of Vedic culture the society should be basically sattvic and a proper infrastructure must be in place. Equal protection under the law is part of basic infrastructure. Therefore Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and other such places where law-enforcement may be sympathetic to atrocities such as this are not ready for any kind of Hinduism. I say leave them be and try to focus on re-awakening spirituality in the Indian sub-continent so that people like this don't become the majority there.

  11.

    Islam is a terrific religion. As to verses inciting violence, one can say the same about Gita wherein Krishna urges Arjuna to commit mass murder. Nor is the bible any better.

    There is an important distinction to be made. Arjuna was told to kill his guru and grandfather along with the rest of the Kshatriyas supporting Duryodhana because they were on the battlefield under arms.

  12. I have found the Mahabharata to be far more than I had imagined. For me it only needed an inspiring presentation and the excellent Mahabharat TV Show is such (for me). From the perspective of Bhakti, that of Mother Yashoda was delved into with far more depth than that of Sri Mata Radharani. They presented her as suffering the deepest mood of separation whereas Sri Mata Radharani seemed to accept her separation nobly. Of course in regards to pure torture, I cannot conceive of any worse than that of Mother Devaki who felt a mothers attachment to the child within her womb six times knowing that each time her newborn was likely to have his head smashed in front of her very eyes by her own brother shortly after giving birth! With all that I have been through in my life, her pain and that of her husband Vasudev (who as a noble man was powerless to protect his children and comfort his wife) inform me that I do not know what real suffering is. Some of these characters where nothing less than supermen and wonder women! I would like everyones comments on the Mahabharata and also to know what English translations of Mahabharata are the most popular.

  13. As far as the comparing Vishnu and Krishna goes (your 2nd question) They are identical in terms of tattva (knowledge) but somewhat different from the point of view of rasa (spiritual emotions or moods). Vishnu is perceived and worshiped with owe and reverence, whereas Krishna is perceived as dear most friend, son, beloved, etc. depending on once particular inherent relationship with Him. From philosophical point of view (tattva) They are the same thing - the Supreme Godhead, or the highest aspect of the Absolute Truth, etc.

  14. True spiritual insight will not need any drug or herb to induce it. If you think you have true insight - that means everything you perceive comports with reason and scripture - then I recommend you discuss these things privately with some people who have been serious on the spiritual path for longer than you and that you respect. By coming to an open forum you might encourage others who may not be mentally balanced or spiritually mature to try to emulate you.

    I agree that you can't always be sure, and you have to think about what is heard from the spirit. But you should always communicate with god inside yourself, that is my opinion, because even if you are getting the wrong information, God will eventually correct it. At certain moments you know that it is a true message.

    I will not comment on the validity of the top message, what it was, I was in total surprise at everything that popped up on the screen while Krsna was laughing in me, It certainly wasn't me writing, and I saw visions that confirmed what was being told by these messengers when the message appeared.

  15. From New Delhi I recommend you take a train to Haridwar - a wonderful spiritual city with many ashrams there.

    However I recommend you first learn more about Hinduism to know what aspect of it you feel drawn to. Here is a good resource: www.hinduwisdom.info

    Also be aware that there are some Indian Gurus who have established ashrams here in the United States as well as India and they spend their time between both places. Here is one to consider: http://www.mountmadonna.org/yoga/babaji.html

    Hari OM!

    Hello,

    I am a medical student studying in Chicago. I will be entering my final year of studies this summer. I will have a few months off before starting residency in the summer of 2010 and would like to take this opportunity to spend some time in India at an Ashram to learn more about Hinduism and connect spiritually to the Divine. During this past year, I have been studying and learning more about Hinduism. Once I start residency, I will not have an extended period of time to undertake such a journey so it is important I maximize this opportunity.

    I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of Ashrams where I may be able to stay for 2 weeks or so. I have no preference as to where in India but I am North Indian so a Hindi-speaking area is preferable. I am simply looking for a wonderful opportunity to feel at one with the Divine. I realize nothing is free so of course I would be willing to pay any associated costs. At the same time, I am not looking for a "tourist" spot.

    I hope someone may be able to point me in the right direction so that I can organize this.

    Thanks!

  16.

    Are these ingredients common in traditional( Authentic ) Indian Cooking ?

    Onion ?

    Garlic ?

    I wonder if they are used because of influenced by western dishes or not ?

    Please clarify

    Thanks

    I lived in India for over a year and I can tell you that onion is a big part of the cuisine there; everything with lentils or potatoes seemed to have plenty of onion in it. I don't recall eating much garlic there (I ate mostly in restaurants). Surprisingly, their 'pure veg' restaurants don't have any soy products which is unthinkable for a Western vegetarian restaurant. Also at the McDonalds there they only serve chicken sandwiches so the influence of the West does seem to have some limits.

  17.

    it might be some real spiritual feelings as well as some misinterpretation of ordinary physical sensation . and the best person to interpret this would be your guru or any truly spiritual individual .

    personally i think it is best not to ask such questions here in an internet forum because chances are extremely high that you would be misled and left confused in long term . i really doubt how many sadhaks would become brahmangyani and then roam about the net to answer such serious questions as these........ !!!!!

    its best to start searching for some genuine spiritual person ...... if you are earnest enough , time is ripe and if god wills you shall definitely succeed .

  18.

    Namaste all

    I would like to know of any healing mantras for various illnesses. And also how to use them. I actually run a healing practice and would like to help my patients with mantra.

    Any info will be sincerely appreciated

    Thank You

    Jai Sri Ram

    I have heard healings attributed both to the OM mantra

    and the sri hanuman chalisa

    However I can not tell you which is better for this purpose.

  19.

    Let me ask this, if you truly love someone do you or your lover really bothers how he or she is addressed by you? One needs to fall in LOVE and the name will fall in place automatically...you can call him Krsna, Radhe Radhe, Kalua, Kanha, Govinda, Jesus, Shyama or anyother name / nickname that you may want to keep.

    There is more than one factor - the potency of the name and the consciousness of the performer. You are only speaking to one factor - love consciousness. However the holy names have potency in and of themselves - in other words you can call out one of the one thousand names of Sri Vishnu even inadvertently (not intending it towards the Supreme) and receive beatitude. The story of Ajāmila demonstrates that; if he had inadvertently called out a jiva-tattva name then he would not have received the intervention that he did - so yes it does matter.

    Besides, if someone really doesn't think it matters then they are free to repeat the Rosary on prayer beads and pray over beef before eating it. As long as they have love in their heart, right? They are free to do those things sure, but love does not turn the Rosary into the maha mantra or beef into prasadam - those are practices of a different faith tradition. The way of Sanatana Dharma is Guru, Sadhu and Shastra - not speculation.
