Harekrishna (what is your real name pl?),

    How are you?.

    The details are:-

Your lagna is scorpio. Lagna lord is Mars. The gemstone for Mars is red coral. The reason why some astrologer has suggested to wear red coral is, that your lagna is not associated or aspected by lagna lord ,which may weaken the results given by the 1st house.Upto this it is OK as per that astrologer.

But Mars is also lord of 6th house. If you wear red coral you are prone to accidents, injuries, your friends/relations including would be husband become enemies etc.

The best gemstone for you is pure Kanaka pushyarag(for Jupitor),it helps you for early marriage:) , children, more relations and wealth etc. I hope this clarifies your doubts.

    With best wishes,

    USR

    Hello Sir,

I am doing good. Hope u r doing good as well! My name's disha

I am not a big fan of wearing gemstones just to increase luck and stuff.. i thought she meant wearing red coral would help reduce mental tension/anxiety.. also my mercury is weak thts why i was considering it. Thanks for ur suggestion on the kanaka pushyarag stone. But, i guess i will pass on that as i am scared it culd have some negative repercussions in the long run. also i am not a big fan of early marriage/wealth. Thanks a lot! I really appreciate that u reply to my queries everytime :D

    thanks again.

  5. <BIG>Manicarnika ghat is very central to the legend that is Varanasi. It is the oldest living city in the world and the most active cremation ground too. Shivaits consider this entire world as a vast cremation ground where all of us are burning in one sort of fire or another - fire of desire, jealously, envy, etc. Varanasi is the ideal place to be cremated in this vast complex as at least if you burn here, all that burns are your karmic bonds and eventually you are freed. Perhaps appropriately, the holy city is mainly situated between the two most famous burning ghats of Kashi, ManiKarnika ghat and the Harishchandra ghat.</BIG>

<BIG>Seeing all the miseries of mankind, Lord Shiva, the eternally compassionate one, cried tears of supreme sorrow. Rudra (He who crys / is crying) decided to perform penance and ask the Lord Vishnu how to help the helpless of this world. Lord Madhava is the only one who can grant Moksha - nirvana/ liberation - hence Rudra decided to call upon Him to find an answer for the liberation of all the souls of this world.</BIG>

    <BIG></BIG>

<BIG>So fierce was the penance of Yogishwara that Lord Narayana came in person to grant a boon to Ishwara. The Lord of Vaikuntha asked Lord Shiva to open His eyes, desist from this penance and ask for any boon He desired. Seeing the Lord before Him, Shiva bowed and asked for but one thing, "Please grant an easy route for salvation to all the creatures of this world. Their sorrows, caused by ceaseless cycles of birth, death and karmic entanglements this incurs, grieves me much. Please find an easy, fool proof route so that they may be liberated with ease from this cycle of constant rebirths."</BIG>

    <BIG></BIG>

<BIG>Smiling His charming smile, Lord Hiranyagrbha said, "Thou art the most compassionate being in this universe. It behoves you to think thus. This sacred land where you have performed such severe penance for the good of the world, is so hallowed by your association, that from this day forth, anyone who comes here, will attain liberation. This I grant for your sake, and give you exclusive powers to liberate all creatures who come to you here." </BIG>

    <BIG></BIG>

<BIG>Knowing the capricious nature of souls enmeshed in the quagmire of samsara, Lord Shiva desired to extend the terms of the boon. "Lord, please grant such a boon so that even if the creature that comes here is dead, their soul should attain nirvana."</BIG>

    <BIG></BIG>

<BIG>Moved by Rudra's infinite compassion, the Lord Keshava shook His head in admiration and said, "Thou art compassion incarnate. I will grant you a boon so that anyone who comes here, dead or alive, will attain your grace. Even if a creature dies here; or is cremated here, having died elsewhere; thou hast the power to grant them liberation." When the Lord shook His head in admiration for PashuPatiNath's compassion for all jivas, one his gem encrusted earrings fell to the ground, near the kund (pond/ lake) where Lord Shiva was meditating. The hallowed spot where Lord Shiva performed his penance and where the Lord's jewelled earring fell, is the current ManiKarnika ghat (lit - mani = jewel / karnika = earring / ghat = bathing place). </BIG>

<BIG>Later, when the heavenly river Ganges descended to the earth and purified the souls of Sagar's sons, She decided to pay homage to Lord VishwaNath's penance and came to flow past this spot, transforming the ghat of a small kund (pond/ lake) into a ghat (bathing steps) on its own mighty banks.</BIG>

    <BIG></BIG>

<BIG>From time immemorial, the burning ghat at ManiKarnika in Varanasi have attracted those seeking salvation. At a time when travel was neigh impossible and pilgrimage across the vast sub-continent a major achievement of its own, people used to commit ritual suicide at this ghat so that they may die and be liberated. In those days, travel was a dangerous adventure and having once achieved the goal of reaching Kashi, some visitors felt that it was best to seek salvation here and now, rather than risk being killed by bandits on the way back, or dying of illness back home.</BIG>

    <BIG></BIG>

<BIG>Currently, this is the busiest burning ghat at Kashi, and indeed probably the whole world. As a result, most corpses do not get enough time to burn properly and are often unceremoniously dumped, half burnt into the sacred river. A constant stream of corpses come to this ghat to be burnt, day and night. Between this and the Harishchandra ghat, the other famous burning ghat in Kashi, the holy city hums with its own eternal life.</BIG>

    <BIG></BIG>

<BIG>Found this online and i was just wondering if anyone is aware of this legend/place? what are your thoughts on it?</BIG>

  6. Well, i did a nirjaal (no water, no food ) fast on mahashivrati this yr for 24 hrs. after that i got a headache.. and since my exams are this week, i think i wont be able to keep nirjaal(waterless) fast. However, I am thinking of just doing a liquid only fast, that is If i have krsna's mercy. I am very excited! :D . Thank u for ur help and i will definately check with ISKCON.

    hare krsna :)

Some people only take water on ekadasi, and some just eat lightly. As far as I understand you can take meal anytime during the day on ekadasi. Best check with someone else though, I could be wrong.

Yesterday was Rama's appearance day so I took simple fruits and things after sunset.

Do whatever feels right for you. One thing I have learnt though, if we try to be too austere, we dont normally maintain much long term. That is my encounter anyhow. I would prefer to offer nice fruits and a simple veggie dish, like a nice pumpkin with yoghurt. I am not so austere.

But I definately chant on jaap beads much more on ekadasi normally. Hopefully:)

You can break grain fast next morning by taking grains. Times are normally on calendars, do be honest I am not so regulated, so this week I may take some nuts (if I have them in the house), next morning after I awake and have shower etc.

  7. Thank you for ur response. I really appreciate it. I am very excited for this day. I saw the story of this ekadasi on the vaishnava calendar and it looks to be interesting. So, definately i will fast to my full ability.. So, just checking again.. i should fast throughout the day right? when shall i break the fast?

    thank u

may krsna bless u with eternal happiness :)

    hare krsna

You can keep ekadasi very simply by taking fruits, nuts, dairy, and simple vegetable dishes. Just make sure none of your product contains grain.

And during the day spend more time with the Lord by chanting, reading, even collecting some flowers from the garden to offer in simple devotion...we can get creative with devotion and simple, etc. That is important....a day to remember God.

If things become 'too strict and only external' about rules, we may miss the essence and beauty of things. But saying that regulation in life is beneficial even for the materialist.

You can read lots of things about ekadasi here - click

And here is the list of acceptable foods click here

  8. Hi everyone,

This coming monday is Ram Navami, the appearence of lord Ramacandra. I have some doubts regarding the fasting procedure. I read in Srila Prabupadaji's lectures that one is suppose to fast till sunset and have little fruit or milk even better if one doesnt have water. Is this all? what kind of food can one have after breaking the fast? just the normal vegetarian prasadam?

thanks and sorry for being so ignorant :(

  9. Hello,

Although i am very novice at this, i suggest that he should chant hare krsna mahamantra and just think of lord krsna, as it is said in bhagvat gita that anyone who leaves this material world remembering Krsna, he will surely attain Krsna. Its very sad to know that you are going through this. I will pray for ur grandfather. May krsna bless him and also ur family.

I have heard people do mahamritunjaya mantra. I suggest u take advice of other learned people here in this forum. Also, you can go to ISKCON temple near u and ask whats right to do ... i am sure they can help u in this matter

    hare krsna

    Take care :)

  10. Hello Everyone,

forgive me for being so ignorant. But, i heard in one of the His divine grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami prabhupadaji that Shri ram has his own planets. My confusion is that there are 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, of which sri ram is one. So are lord krishna and sri ram one? if someone is a devotee of sri ram, after death does he/she go to sri ramji's planet or back to Godhead.

also when we say hare krsna mahamantra, does rama mean lord ram or balram?

    Thank u
