our sampradaya support the physical exercise only .it helps to service to lord and devotees.

for us meditation towards lord sriman naryana only

we can do always meditate lord sriman naryana easily by doing services to lord and acharyas and devotees

if we do kainkaryam (serviees to others ) with love then automatically we can meditate lord and we can get peace of our mind

SrimathE Ramanujaya Nam:

Dear SrivaishNavite,

Sriman NAthamunikaL was an expert in meditation. Through meditation he was able to focus on the Lord and the Lord visited his mind and settled in him with undivided attention.

This was then taught to one of his discisples Sri kurugai kAvalappan.

(Pls. refer to 2-6-1 of tiruvAimozhi IDu vyAkyAnam).

Sri VuyuyakoNDAr spurned the procedure of mediation as it benefitted only the individual and not the society at large.

He preferred the other branch of NAthamunikaL of spreading the SrivaishNavic cult based on AzvAr-s works and the philosphy embedded therein.

Sri vuyyakoNDar s words were- Can anybody enter into wedlock when corpse is lying around- piNam kidakka maNam puNaralAMOA?

We also understand from GuruparamparA that Sri ALavandhAr attempted this but was bit late to reach a bit late.

Please refer to verse 22 in Chapter 9 of Gita, where Lord says "ananya chinta yanto mam...." meaning without other thoughts think of me. Precisely that is the meditation.

Chinta - is thought

Anya chinta - other thought

Ananya chinta - No other thought

As a definition it is, focus on something to the exclusion of all others. Also meditation is an effect and not a cause. That means instead of forcing our mind to meditate (that may only cause oppression and suppression) the mind should be properly cultivated and then meditation becomes an easy by product. For a pure mind, there is no need to do a separate part time meditation because that individual is always meditating. That is you become meditative throughout...

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha:

Divyaprabhandam comes handy here :)

thamar ugandadu evvuruvam avvuruvam dhaane

thamar ugandadu eppaer matru appaer thamar ugandu

evvannam sindhithu imayadhiruppare

avvannam aazhiyaanaam

Line 1: thamar(Bhagavatas) ugandadu(like) evvuruvam(whatever form) avvuruvam

(that form is His) dhaane

- what ever form Bhagavatas like Lord takes that form only

Line 2: thamar(Bhagavatas) ugandadu(like) eppaer(whichever name) matru appaer

(that is the name He wants)

- what ever name Bhagavatas like to call him Lord takes that name only.

Line 3,4: thamar(Bhagavatas) ugandu(like to) evvannam(whatever color) sindhithu

(meditate upon) imayadhiruppare(without even the eyes winking) avvannam

aazhiyaanaam (that is the color of the one who holds the mighty sudharshana

chakram).

- what ever color Bhagavatas think is Lord's and meditate upon that, he takes

that color.

Please remember 2 basic things. One is using meditation as a upayam. This is

prayojanantraparar. Another thing is you meditate upon the form of lord after

realization of your svarupa gnanam which leads to bhagavad gunaanubhavam.

Those who use yoga, meditation etc for some liberation or result get the same

(yatA upAsatE tataiva phalamashnutE). For those who are in prapatti margam, the

yogic powers and meditation become part of their nature and work and hence they

don't have to separately do it.

- My 2 cents worth.

AdiyenWhatever you have referred to in ur mail is just a prathama parva nishta.sriman narayana as upaya upeyam.but Acharya must be our upaya upeyam concludes swamy pillai lokachariar. Thoughnothing is a means to an end be it karma gyana bhakthi and prapatti yoga but he says karmam kainkaryathil pugum, gyanam vasthu prakasathil pughum and bhakthi prapya ruchyil pughurum .so we cant afford to sit idle after prapathi but instead must spend our time in acharya kainkaryam and bhagavath kainkaryam.

Sri Ramanujaya namaha:

Adiyen did not address your 2nd question (yoga for ladies) and as well would

like to add some additonal thoughts / points:

1. Yoga is commonly understood or misunderstood to doing some postures or some

exercises. However if we look at the real meaning - it is derived from the

Sanskrit word " yuj " meaning to bind. To bind with one's self. The practices

that help support this process are called Religion (derived from two Latin words

" Re " means back and " legare " means to bind). More precisely, it is to bind,

unite, surrender unto Lord's feet.

2. All the 18 chapters in the Gita end with the word " yoga " . Each of the 18 is

therefore a yogic practice and if followed would take us to the Lord's feet.

3. There is a whole Chapter VI in Gita (very very interesting) that talks on

Meditation. Lord Krisna gives a fabulous interpretation in verse 1, where HE

defines a yogi or a sanyasi as a person who does karma renouncing fruits of

actions. HE also gives external and internal disciplines for doing Meditation.

Internal refers to control of mind and external to certain physical postures.

When Arjuna questions how a wavering mind could be controlled, Krisna advises -

steadfast practices.

4. Steadfast practices are those that imbibe knowledge through Prapati / Bakthi

(from Prabandhams, Gita and the like) and at the same time performing actions

renouncing their fruits. Both should work in unison. If either one is lacking

that practice will be devoid of perfection.

Thus it would appear Yoga is for all including ladies.
