The eclipse will begin at 23:21 hours (Indian time) Tuesday and end at 04:40 FONT-FAMILY: Verdana; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial">hours Wednesday. The total eclipse, during which the moon will be totally invisible, will last for 76 minutes beginning 01:22 hours, Wednesday.(source doordarshan news).. Highlights about Eclipse The spiritual effect of lunar and solar eclipse In the solar system, during lunar eclipse the Chaitanya frequencies are 40% less than usual. Hence the chaitanya in the atmosphere reduces. Chaitanya frequencies are cool, peaceful and sattvik. Due to reduction of chaitanya frequencies in the atmosphere the distressing energies’ influence increases. Due to which the raja-tama in the atmosphere increases; hence it is said that ‘one should not go out on the day of lunar eclipse’. Similarly for the solar eclipse. During the solar eclipse the Tej frequencies are less by 40% than usual. The powerful the eclipse the higher the influence of distressing energies. - Information about lunar eclipse on 4th May 04 (the timings are in IST) The eclipse begins at 12: 18 at night. It ends at 3:42. Total time is 3 hours and 24 minutes. One should have meals before 12:30 and after the eclipse ends one should take bath, do puja and then have breakfast. Children, old, sick may eat till sunset. The activities one should do during the eclipse – take bath as soon as the eclipse begins, and then do chanting. The activities to be avoided during the eclipse – sleeping, masturbation, toilet (both), food, abhyang bath. Information about eclipses It has been said that as soon as an eclipse begins it is inauspicious for all Classes of human-beings; hence all should first take a bath. The food cooked before the eclipse becomes impure after the eclipse; hence it is not to be consumed. The one who does not take bath at the time of eclipse, would suffer grave illness for next 7 births and suffer lot of unhappiness. It is good if a cold water bath is taken. It is most meritful if the bath is taken in river Ganges, Godavari or at Prayaag. The following are usually done during an eclipse – bath, ritualistic fire, puja and shraaddh, donations (daan), and after the eclipse has ended taking bath again. It is a general rule that one should not take bath, not make donations, and not do shraaddh at night, but during an eclipse one can do so at night also. The period of an eclipse is considered most appropriate for chanting, reciting mantras etc. One is not supposed to consume food during the eclipse. It is also a rule that for lunar eclipse one should not eat for 9 hours before the eclipse and for 12 hours before Solar eclipse. However, it is not applicable to children, ladies, and sick, aged. Due to eclipse, not only food, but everything becomes impure. However, it is impossible to throw away household items, hence during the eclipse Tulsi is kept on things.
