Jaya Guru Datta

But one has to remove Arishadvargas from self. If one has no Arishadvargas then

automatically one can think about self-surrender or Surrender at the Lotus feet

of Sadugu.

Surrender - The Draupadi story

Sri Suresh Garu,

Jaya Guru Datta!

Your question though appears simple, has made me think deep into the roots

of the Guru-Sishya relationship.

I remember Pujya Sri Swamiji explaining about Surrender as one of the nine

types of devotion - Nava Vidha Bhakthi.

If I recollect correctly, it is said that Self-Surrender is considered to be

the last and the highest stage of devotion. Self-Surrender requires complete

wipe out of the ego and the feelings of doer-ship and enjoyer-ship. It is

necessary to surrender at the feet of the Lord the concept of our Yoga &

Kshema and work in the world outside of this as His instruments with abiding

faith in Him. Thus we qualify ourselves to receive His grace.

This also reminds me of a story narrated by Appaji on Gemini TV years back.

Swamiji refered to Draupadi’s appeal to Lord Krishna when Dussasana tried to

shame her in public by undressing her. When Draupadi cried for immediate

help and rescue, itseems Lord Krishna took a long time to come. When

Draupadi asked the Lord the reason for His delay, the Lord replied that,

while pleading for His help, she still held her saree with one hand trying

to self protect. If she had totally *‘SURRENDERED’* to God, Dussasana would

not have dared to touch her, for; God was ever present to protect her.

Nothing truly belongs to her, not even the feeling of shame.

The Draupadi episode makes it clear that it is necessary that one must

practice self less bhakthi towards God or Guru surrendering one’s mind, body

and soul and let not ego come in this way. Surrender is an important part of

the guru-disciple relationship. Surrender to Guru is the only Sadhana.

Surrender is best suited for the present-day man, as this single path alone

possesses the main characteristics of Jnana, Bhakthi and Karma yogas too.

Acceptance is not enough. Just Surrender!!

May Pujya Swamiji bless all of us acheive this highest stage of devotion -

Surrender !

Sri Guru Datta !
