incident and significance of Kalabhairava rishi, Sri Swamiji's life history (The Manifestation)

First see the video below, then read on...

Somehow, this episode where Ghatotkatcha (son of Bheema and Hidimbi,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidimbi) runs into a disguised Krishna ( " thatha " ,

which means 'old man' or 'grandfather', in an endearing manner of speaking),

reminds me (to some extent) of Kalabhairava Rishi's meeting with Sri Swamiji as

described in His life history.  (Note: In Swamiji's life history, that

particular episode ends with Kalabhairava yogi realizing His mistake in

misunderstanding the agnya (Will) of his own Guru - he mistakenly thinks that he

was meant to use his acquired yogic powers to save humanity (and so, he comes to

the Ashrama and starts criticizing Swamiji), when Swamiji shows Kalabhairava

yogi that his real tapas (and hence, his Guru's real wish) was that he actually

understand himself first.  While i'm sure that the actual witnesses of that

event so many years ago were perhaps taken aback at the time at the audacity of

Kalabhairava rishi, no doubt, in

Swamiji's own mind, it was quite a comical situation.

Although people may dismiss this as simply an 'event' that happened to 'someone

else' as an example of Sri Swamiji's miracles; they are missing that the

experience also is a lesson for ALL devotees - that their ~real~ task is to

understand themselves first, before going around trying to save the world

through their knowledge of the philosophy, orthodoxy, mantras, pujas, practices,

rituals, or whatever it may be that they think they know.   What happens to any

one devotee, is a lesson for every other devotee, always.

Those who meet Sri Swamiji (not physically, but in SatSanga) soon realize how

little they actually know.  True knowledge is not an intellectual statement or a

set of logical results, it is direct experience, or perceptual glimpse of the

Truth, as it really is.  The rest is only speculation.  Learn to distinguish the

real from the unreal within yourself.

To do Guru seva, you should improve your own spiritual understanding, since that

is the actual work of the SatGuru (preceptor); and by taking active interest and

steps towards meeting the Guru half-way on that task (by listening to His

advice, by following His words, by doing what He has asked of you, however

humble or simple the task may be), you automatically are doing real Guru seva

(no need for any herculean tasks, just follow the baby-steps first).  So, first

save yourself, before you go around saving others, is the cardinal rule - it is

a sign of true humility to be silent, aware, and observant.  Only such a person

can go around even thinking about helping someone else; the rest are only

causing confusion to everyone they meet, by adding their own particular brand of

confusion to the confusion that the other people are bringing with them.  So

leave the task of 'growing the organization' to the SatGuru, and worry instead

on the quality of your

particular relationship with SatGuru first.  Unlike a corporation, where the

promotion from junior to senior means that you suddenly command other people; a

true growth from junior to senior in THIS organization, means you should go

within more and more, and surrender more and more.  It is arrogance to think

that " I am helping Swamiji " ...how can you (a speck of dust in a universe

consisting of billions of galaxies, suns, worlds, and diverse species) help the

Lord (who is the entirety of the Universe).  You can only do what you were

designed to do (as His tool).  Any " adigaprasangathanam " ('behavioral

excessivity', in telugu) as your mother might say, is just that, excessive and

presumptious.  One shouldn't be a busy-body or a nosy person in other people's

business.

There is a general fidgety nature of devotees - they spend a few seconds trying

to improve themselves - they soon give up in frustration (or rather, boredom),

and then start their fidgeting again, trying to save the world again.  There are

no exceptions.  It is not the world that needs saving, it is yourself.  This is

the lesson learned by Kalabhairava rishi who had spent much of his life in tapas

at the behest of his SatGuru, and who later misunderstood the directives of his

own guru.  We should be ever watchful that we do not fall into that trap of

thinking that we have surpassed the one who has made us. The one who has made

us, can unmake us, and can remake us, at His Will.  So, there is no " special

seva " or " special assignment "  that one can do to " help " one's Guru, one can only

surrender all works done to His holy feet, as being His seva.  Distinguishing

your life purpose and Guru seva is a mistake - they are related and you should

be actively

engaged in seeing what is the connection.  One never gets a Guru for no reason,

so our first question is, why we have had the fortune of having a Guru to begin

with; this will lead to answers about what seva we should be (capable of)

doing.

6 billion people in the world, and only a handful know (or have heard of)

Dattatreya / Sri Swamiji - why?  You are all lucky people.

We are not out to convert the masses to our way of seeing things; we are here to

understand why we are here.  Those who have the karma to follow Swamiji will

find Swamiji (rather He will find them... look at your own case, how did YOU

find Swamiji? Did YOU find him? Or did HE find you? ..why do you think it is

different for anyone else?) whether we advertise him or not.  We are not here to

propagandize His mission and sell it to the highest bidder, we are here to

understand our special relationship to SatGuru.  It is a holy and timeless

relationship, not a business relationship, nor an employer-employee

relationship.

Think for yourself, what is my relation to SatGuru, in an honest,

self-analytical, self-reflective manner, for your own benefit.
