FROM THE SATSANGHS OF SAIBANISA JI http://www.angelfire.com/celeb2/saidarbar/pages/S3500055.htm Compiled by: Sai Sevak Smt. Rajeswari Kasturi, Saidarbar – Hyderabad. How to develop dispassion - Quotations from “Gnaneshwari.” Baba used to ask His devotees to read Gnaneshwari. The Karma yogis renounce all attachment and perform action with their senses, mind, intellect and body only. They act thus for self- purification.

Abandoning the fruit of action the Karma Yogi attains the peace (of God realization), whereas impelled by desire and attached to fruit, the non yogi gets tied down. Lord Krishna says to Arjuna: Renouncing all duties, seek refuge in me alone. I shall liberate you from all sins. Grieve not.

Om Shantih Shantih Shantihi Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu To be continued… --------------- 2. SAI'S NEWS FROM THE TIME MACHINE: April 1954: Abdul Baba passed away at the age of 83 years. SAI IN DREAMS: http://www.ettitudemedia.com These are the dream sequences and messages as received by SaiBaNiSaji From our beloved GURU

LORD SAINATH OF SHIRIDI. In Anticipation that this feature will help in one's spiritual growth are hereby compiled from his personal Diary and presented to SAIBANDHUS. Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY. FEBRUARY-1995: 09-02-1995 I prayed Baba to give me a message for tomorrow’s Satsangh. Sai said “Perform charity

after driving away the inner ego, hidden in the form of a serpent, Otherwise the charity rendered will be a wasteful exercise”. Inner ego is like a serpent with its hood raised, ready to bite. 13-02-1995 Yesterday, one of my relative’s wife expired. He was sixty years old. Without encumbrances. Why can’t he remarry for companionship? I

prayed Baba and sought HIS opinion. Sai appeared in the form of an unknown person and said- In order to fill the void left by the departed life partner, let love be shared with the orphans who have none to fall back and share. Never suggest anyone to remarry to overcome the sufferings in leading the life single. It is almost like a sick person enslaved by liquors. Certain happenings in life are the result of the God’s will with a purpose. 14-02-1995 I was thinking about the selfishness associated with the human beings. I asked Baba to show me the ways to overcome it. Sai appeared in the form of an unknown person and said- Extend help to others with due respect to their traditions in practices. Always try talking to a person in his mother tongue preferably. Do not forget that Sai loved all without any discrimination and social barriers. Selflessness automatically comes on conducting one’s self confined to the set norms. Be a karma yogi to reap the benefits To be continued….. ---- 4. QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY: (By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao) "Shashi": shashi_31 28. What is Jnana & Ajnana (Nescience) Pujya Sri B.V. Narasimha Swamiji explains that Ajnana is covering Jnana, just like moss covering the water. When you remove moss, you have clear water. You have not got to create water. Water is there ever. During an eclipse, the Sun or Moon is there, but Rahu or Kethu hides the view from us and when Rahu or Kethu passes away, the light of the Sun or Moon, which is continuing right through, is seen by us. We are seeing things with our eyes. Then a cataract forms over them and the eyes cannot see. Pull off the cataract, and

then eyes will see. Ajnana is the cataract. The universe is the efflorescence of the indescribable Maya, which is ignorance. Yet it is the Jnana that illuminates the Ajnana. Jnana is to be realized and is not a matter of direct Upadesa. The impression that phenomena are real is a delusion. This is the secret of darkness that hides the Jnana. Tear off that screen. The Prajnana Brahma will shine forth. If the Guru Kripa of collyrium is put on the eye, Maya screen lifts and Jnana shines forth. Jnana is not an effect. It is ever self existent. On the other hand, Ajnana has a cause and an end. God is one, the devotee is another. This is the root cause of ignorance. Remove it. Janna remains. Ignorance finds a snake in the rope, remove the ignorance, the snake vanishes and the rope is known as it is”.

Divine knowledge is to be realized, not taught. Prostration, enquiry and service are the methods by which to obtain the Grace of God. It is an illusion to think that phenomena are real. That is the screen of ignorance which hides knowledge (Jnana). Tear it off and knowledge will shine forth. Ignorance is the seed of birth and death. Put the medicine of God’s grace on the eye and screen off Maya lifts, leaving only Jnana. Jnana is not something to be attained; it is eternal and self-existent. It is enough for the thoughts of a Jnani to be turned inward direction and then the Divine activity begins. All that activity was as discrete and inconspicuous. To be continued….. ----------------------------- 5. SANATANA DHARMA & SHRI SHIRDI SAIBABA Why do you roam the jungles with thorns pricking your feet? Your Lord dwells in your heart. And you wander about in search of Him - Baba Sri Shankaracharya Jayanthi 21-04-07 Jagadguru Sri Adi Sankaracharya was the greatest exponent of the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta and a savior of Vedic Dharma. Salutations to Sankara, who is an ever shining star on the sky of Indian philosophy. The existence of Vedic Dharma in India today is due to Sankara. The forces opposed to Vedic religion were more numerous and powerful at the time of Sankara than they are today. Still, single-handed, within a very short time, Sankara overpowered them all and restored the Vedic Dharma and Advaita Vedanta to its pristine purity in the land pure knowledge and spirituality. Sankaracharya occupies a very important position in the history of Indian philosophy. It can be affirmed, without any fear of contradiction, that Bharata Varsha would have ceased to be Bharata Varsha several centuries ago and would never have

survived the murderous sword, the devastating fire and the religious intolerance of the successive invaders, if Sankara had not lived the life he lived and taught the lessons he taught. And those lessons are still pulsating in every cell and in every protoplasm of the true aspirant and the true Hindu. NEWS mandirsangam.vhp-america.org EDISON, NEW JERSEY, April 9, 2007: Hindu Mandir Executive Conference (HMEC) is an annual initiative seeking development of network between the executives of all Hindu temples of America. This year's conference HMEC-2007, will be held from August 10th to August 12th in Edison, New Jersey. Executives of Hindu mandirs are invited to present papers and presentations no later than June 15, 2007. Topics include views on any areas which influence the shape of Hindu Society in the U.S.A. and where mandirs can play a meaningful role. ------------------- SRINAGAR, INDIA, April 8, 2007: Hundreds of devotees thronged a temple here today which reopened after a gap of 18 years, with locals providing assistance to its management for the reopening. Worshippers reached the 700-year-old Mangleshwar temple dedicated to Lord Siva at Baba Demb where a havan (fire sacrifice) was organized for peace. A body would also be established for managing the affairs of the temple. Authorities have also made adequate security arrangements at the temple. A police team has been deployed at the

entrance of the temple. ---------- --------------- TRINIDAD, April 3, 2007: Chanting of the Hanuman Chalisa, blowing of conch shells, repetition of special mantras, singing of bhajans and the spiritual invocation of Lord Hanuman heralded the celebration of Lord Hanuman Jayanti (birthday) on Monday at mandirs and special places of worship across Trinidad. Hindus here joined their counterparts throughout the diaspora in the observance of this day. Lord Hanuman, the Monkey God, is fully described in the Hindu text, the Ramayana, and in the Hanuman Chalisa. At the Caparo Shiva Kailash Mandir, Pundit Seereeram Maharaj, spiritual

leader, enumerated Lord Hanuman's personification of brahmacharya or celibacy. "Lord Hanuman personifies courage, self-control, power, intelligence, selfless service and humility which all mankind can access to create a new spiritual order for us and for succeeding generations," he told over 200 devotees. Pundit Maharaj added that Lord Hanuman's life demonstrated one's capacity to endure pain, suffering, humiliation and distress, even at the danger of losing one's life. Hindus believe that this day is one of total spiritual self-fulfillment. Lord Hanuman is one of the most sought-after in the Hindu pantheon of Gods and Goddesses because He is readily accessible and able to defend dharma and assist all devotees in crisis, trouble, worries and challenges, when beseeched with deep faith and ardent supplication. ----------------------- www.news4jax.com JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA, March 23, 2007: Jacksonville Hindus are delighted that a Hindu temple has been opened in their community. Now the 4,000 Hindus living in Jacksonville have a place to pray and worship. The news release explained, "On Friday, Hindu priests and others were busy readying the temple, which is located on Greenland Road in Mandarin. A ceremony was held outside on Friday as five priests from across Florida came to sanctify Jacksonville's first Hindu temple. With fire and water, Priest Kadambi Shrinatte Ji led the ceremony. Others gathered to pray." --------------- 6. DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES: sidduprasha Mon, April 2, 2007 6:51 am Dear Sai devotees, I know very well that miracles happen everyday because Shirdi Sai is alive and he is with us every moment. I take this opportunity to look for a bride for my brother who is an advocate .He is a very staunch devotee of Shirdi Sai, and his criteria is to get a bride who is a Shirdi Sai Baba devotee. This letter I consider to have written to Baba himself and I very much hope that he would reply me soon and this is going to be the miracle itself. -------------------------------- 7. SAI WITH CHILDREN: http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpgSmt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad. Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba

use to play with children and used to tell stories to them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be entertained with good stories. Now I want to tell the stories what heard in my child hood. THE GOLDEN DEER: Once there was a rich merchant in the holy city of Banaras. He had a wife, and a son named Mahadhanaka. The son was an unworthy and wasteful person. When his parents died he spent all his father’s hard-earned wealth in

gambling and merry-making. A band of useless cronies gathered round him and helped him in his speedy downfall. A day soon came when he was deeply in debt. His creditors started pestering him. But there was no way to pay them back. The creditors now troubled him day and night. At last he thought of a plan. He called all his creditors at the bank of the Ganga the next morning. He told them that his father had hidden a treasure on the Ganga bank. The next morning they all met at the Ganga bank. The creditors were full of joy at the thought of getting their money back. But suddenly Mahadhanaka, instead of paying them their money, jumped into the deep waters of the Ganga. He knew that he could never pay them back. So he had decided to end his life thus. The current bore him

swiftly away from their sight. Disappointed they all went back to their homes. A long distance away there was a bend in the river. Alongside the bend there was a beautiful and rich grove of trees. In this groove lived a splendid looking golden deer. Its skin shone like gold. As Mahadhanaka, carried by the storing current, neared the bend, the deer that was grazing the soft grass on the bank, saw him struggling in the water. His heart was moved by his plight. He jumped into the river and swimming strongly reached the drowning man. Then he put him on his back and brought him safely back to the bank. There he nursed him till he was alright. After that he led him out of the woods and showed him the way to Banaras. While parting, the deer asked mahadhanaka not to reveal about his existence or whereabouts to anyone. Otherwise, they might try to catch him. Now, here in Banaras, the Queen Khema had a dream about the Golden Deer with a human voice. She wanted to have the deer. She told of her desire to the King. The King loved the Queen dearly. He promised to get her the deer if such a deer existed. The King announced a big reward for anyone who would give him the news of the Golden deer. Hunters spread all over in search of the deer. Mahadhanaka, who was returning to Banaras, met some of

these hunters. When he learnt from them that they were looking for the golden deer and that there was a reward for the person who would lead them to the deer, he told them that he knew about the deer. The King was informed. He accompanied by his soldiers, hunters and courtiers, started for the secluded forest grove. When they neared the place, Mahadhanaka pointed out the grove to the King. The King’s men immediately surrounded it. The deer was resting under a tree. When he heard the noise of soldiers and hunters, he got up. He saw that he was surrounded by all sides. Some distance away, in front of him, stood the King with his companions. He had his bow and arrow ready to shoot him. The deer immediately decided to approach the King. Asking loudly not to release the arrow the deer ran up to him. At his human speech the astonished King lowered his bow.

Approaching the King, surrounded by his courtiers, the deer requested him to tell him who had informed him about his existence. The King pointed his finger towards Mahadhanaka who was standing near him. The deer was turned to him reproachfully and said, “Pulling a log out of the river would have been better than rescuing such a person as you”. The King asked the deer what wrong the man had done to him. The deer replied, “My Lord, I saved this man’s life when he was drowning. I nursed him and set him on the way to Banaras. My only request to him was not to inform anybody about me. See, how this ungrateful man has repaid me!” The king was furious at the man’s treachery. He wanted to kill him. But the kind-hearted deer persuaded the King to spare his life and to send him away with the money offered as

reward. The King turned to Mahadhanaka saying “You wretch, see this noble deer paying you back with mercy and kindness for your ungratefulness. Go away from here and never show your face in my kingdom.” Mahadhanaka took the reward and vanished into the forest. No one ever saw him again. The Golden deer was both noble and wise. He told the King, “My Lord, it is easy to understand the words of animals and birds. But a man’s words can never be fully understood. He may appear your friend and still betray you.” The King was deeply impressed by the deer’s nobility and wisdom. He told him ask for any favour from him. Thinking carefully, the deer said, “My Lord, grant me the boon that all animals in your kingdom will live freely without fear from the human beings.” The king readily promised, saying that he would issue a proclamation that from that time on wards no man would harm any animals in his kingdom. The King finally returned to Banaras. The Golden Deer accompanied the King. Queen Khema was overjoyed to see the splendid Golden Deer. When she heard the wise words of the deer spoken in a human voice, her joy was doubled. The deer passed many happy days in the company of the King and the Queen. At last, taking leave of them, he went back to his secluded peaceful grove by the side of the river and spent his life in quiet happiness. -------------- 8. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA "Swamy" swamymain Tue, March 27, 2007 5:04 am Sai Ram. We have completed for the time being the Spiritual Gems from Sri Sai Satcharitra, Chapter 22. Let us now take up the study of Chapter 23 from that great spiritual ocean and see what spiritual gems are given to us by Sai's grace. Sai Ram. Chapter XXIII Yoga and Onion - Shama Cured of Snake Bite – Cholera Ordinance Broken Ordeal of Guru-Bhakti. SSS: Yoga and

Onion Once it so happened, that a sadhak of Yoga came to Shirdi with Nanasaheb Chandorkar. He had studied all the works on Yoga, including the Yoga-sutras of Patanjali, but had no practical experience. He could not concentrate his mind and attain samadhi even for a short time. He thought that if Sai Baba be pleased with him, He will show him the way to attain Samadhi for a long time. With this object in view he came to Shirdi, and when he went to the Dwarakamai he saw Sai Baba eating bread with onion. On seeing this, a thought arose in his mind - `How can this man, eating stale bread with raw onion, solve my difficulties and help me?' Sai Baba read his mind and said to Nanasaheb - "Oh Nana, he who has the power to digest onion, should eat it and none else". Hearing this

remark, the yogi was wonder-struck and then he fell at Baba's Feet with complete surrender. With pure and open mind, he asked his difficulties and got their solution from Baba. Thus being satisfied and happy, he left Shirdi with Baba's Udi and blessings. SSG: Sai Ram. In almost all great works like Guru Gita and other holy texts, it is constantly emphasized that the disciple should not question the Guru's habits and behavior. But many common people try to look at the external features of a Guru, His appearance, His knowledge, His ritualistic approaches, His speaking skills etc. and the above story is a good example of a disciple trying to judge the Guru by what he ate and so on. Sai kindly helped that theoretical yogi and showed the true meaning of yoga, union by being mentally one with him and reading his inmost thoughts. He thus helped the yogi demolish the walls that separated him from Sai. By this small miracle, Sai generated the lamp of bhakti and surrender in the yogi's mind and helped him on his path. Sai Ram. We will continue with this chapter in the next few weeks. Sai Ram. S.V.Swamy Author, Editor, Proof-Reader and Book Reviewer www.freewebs.com/swamyreviews ----- 9.
