||Shreesham Pranamamyaham|| Sri H Subba Rao - A Living Legend Period-1898-1983 -Mohan Chippagiri Popularly known as Sankethi H Subba Rao was born in Advaitha Brahmin family After reading all the philosophies and he was more attracted by the Dwaitha Philosophy propounded by Sri Madhwacharya and he took Sri Madhwa disksha by the Sri Sri 108 Sri Vishwendra Thirtharu pontiff of Sri Sode Vadirajaru math .

By profession he was professor teaching English in Mysore Jayachamrajara College . While he was studying his professors advised him to take classes for the students. He was well versed in Kannada, Sanskrit and other languages. He always used to wear Dhothi and top he is wearing collar coat and Mysore famous turbon on his head and he was lean and tall. He is the gem for the Madhwa community he had studied Sri Madhwa Shatrha under guidance of Sri Sathyadhyana thirtharu , Sri Vidhya manya Thirtharu. Sri 108 Sathyadhyana Thirtharu of Uttaradimath was very much impressed by

Subbarayaru for his dedication in working for the Madhwa Philosphy and he gifted Pranadevaru prathima worshipped by the swamiji to Subbaraya. Till today pujas are being performed to that idol at his home by his heirs. Every day he is used to wakeup at 4.30 AM and he used to finish all the rituals and he used to attend the college at 9.30 AM. He was very friendly with the students. He never wasted his time in the class. He was staunch follower of the Sri Vadirajaru preaching’s He always spent most of the times in research and reading a lot of books . Every day he used to give lectures on our philosophy His class mate was Desika achar he was born in Sri Vaishnava family and he was also attracted by the Sri Madhwa charya’s philosophy he was also disciple of Sri Sathyadhayanaru. Jayasimharaya (Sri Lakshmi Thrtharu of Sri Kundapura Matha) Always sri Subbaraya Desika achar and Sri JayaSimha spent their time in discussing our grantas. When they had any doubt they used to visit Sri Pradhumanya thirtharu of Sri Sagarakatte Matha . In one conference Sri B N K Sharma commented Sri Subba Raya as the “The Doyen of Indian Philosophical Scholarship†Atmakur Ananda Thirtha Sharma is the closest disciple of Sri Subbaraya who acquired vast knowledge in Sri Madhwacharya’s Philosophy. He was bought up in a remote village called Atamakur in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh he praises the Sri Subbarao like this He is a great personality and I have no words to express and he is the one who introduced me to the Sri Vishwothama Thirtharu of Sode Sri Vadirajaru math.

Under him guidance Late Sri Venugopaladasaru Dr H Vedhavyasacharyaru Sri T P Ramamurthy charya Bagepalli Gopinatharao Sri Late Krishna Murthy of Mysore and many more have studied Madhwa Shatra . He used to feed the students and give them shelter in his house . We should feel proud for his generosity towards his disciples. He used to do Namaskara by touching the feet of his disciples when they asked why are you doing like this he used to give an excellent answer saying that by birth you are born as Dwaitha Iam a Advathi by birth and he also says “Nanu Huttininda Advathiyaddarinda nanna yogyathe huttu dwaithigalastualla addarinda Dwaithigalu seva maduvede nanna paramadharma these words were uttered when he used to receive awards

from the swamijis . He is blessed by various Swamiji’s of those times . He also had women students and he used to teach Sanskrit to them he taught SarasaBharath vilasa, Thirtha Prabanda, Sri Rukuminesha Vijaya. He helped our women by teaching our philosophy Hats off to Sri Subbarayaru. He taught Madhwa philosophy to his family members including to the sons-in-laws today they are all giving pravachanas and they are busy in doing research in the philosophy. Sri 108 Sathyadhyanaru of Swamiji of Uttaradimath played major role in shaping the life of the Subbarao by encouraging him in writing the books. Under the guidance of the swamiji Sri Subbarao has written Sri Geetha Prathpardartha Chandrika, Sabhasara Sangarha (Civil Suit) and other books. He always tried to protect Dwaitha philosophy he never kept his eyes close on the people who used to condem the Madhwa Philosphy When ever he noticed the condemning of the Madhwa Philosphy he used to give gun shot replies to them and they used to surrender him after having discussions. We should appreciate the deeds committed by him and we should bow our heads before him with utmost respect for keeping Madhwa philosophy flag flying high. He used to teach Swapna Vrundavana Akayana to the students and he has written Kaipids for the Akyaana I have already told he was a greater follower of Rajaru. He had visited Mantralaya and was blessed by the Sri Raghavendra swamiji and also got blessings from the Brahmanya Thirtharu of Abbur he visited Pajaka and took the blessings of Sri Madhwa Charya. His parents are Sri Lakshmi Devamma and Sri Sankethi Narayanaappa.

Sri Subbarayara close Samakalinaru Sri Ambaji Srinivasa Ramarao, Sri Rangapatna Sri Nagarajacharyaru Sri Sheshagiri Rayaru, Sri Rameshcharya, Sri Kolagi Sri Seshacharyaru, Sri Gurugovinda Vittala Dasaru. He used to show lot of respects to the Sri Vishwothama thirtharu of Sode Vadirajara Matha. By seeing his great respects towards Sri Vadirajaru. Sri Vishwothama thirtharu honored Sri Subbaraya by blessing Sri Vadiraja Vagmeya Visharada award. Sri Subbaraya Visited Sode many times and he used to take blessings of TriVikrama devaru ,Sri Vadirajaru and Bhootharajaru and he spent many years in the Sonda guess at that time how he traveled

such long distances where there is no Good transportation I think Hari Vayu Gurugalu helped him in traveling such distances. On 9-9-1983 at 11. PM Till end he has served and preached the Madhwa Sidantha and by uttering Bhavisameera Vadirajaru , Hanuma bhima Sri Madhwa anthraghta Sri Rama Krishna Vedhavyasa Rukumini Sathyabhama Sametha Udupi Krishna like Harigurugala Namasmarane he reached Haripada. I have got an opportunity to read the special Souvenir titled Abinava Pandicharya H Subbarao edited by Dr C H GuruRaja rao , Samana Publication ,Mysore I thought I should share information on this great personality . I have read some articles written by Sri H Subba Rao and the Book the Strength of Madhwasim. I got this golden opportunity to write about this great soul. Finally I pray Hari Vayu Gurugalu who have given me a chance to write article on this living legend. Every Madhwa must remember Sri H Subba Rao and

they should be inspired by his deeds.

Indeed the article you have posted is of very informative and well narated. Thanks for such a informative article... One small correction is suggested here...

 

In the article you have mentioned that Shri Subbha Rao have studied under HH Sri Vidyamanya Thirtharu of Palimar and Bhankdarkere Mutt. That is not correct. Instead HH and Sri Subbha Rayaru studied Madhwa Shastra under same Guru HH Sri Sathya Dhyana Thirtharu. Also, as I remember later due to some misunderstanding of Madhwa shastra between HH Vidyamanya Thirtharu and Sri Subbha Rayaru, they had series of communication, where later HH Vidyamanya Thirtharu agreed to the points of Sri Subbha Rayaru presented.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
