Rudraksha Rudraksha Mala Beads - Five facets

Indian legend relates many stories about Lord Shiva, also known as “Rudra”. He

is famous for being the embodiment of the power of destruction in an eternal

cycle of creation maintenance, and destruction. Shiva is also associated with

deep states of meditation where thoughts are absent and only silence and

emptiness exist. It is said that Lord Shiva once entered a profound state of

meditation for the benefit of mankind for a very long time. When he finally

emerged from this state and opened his eyes, the deep joy, peace, and love he

felt for the human race was expressed with sacred tears which ran down his

cheek and fell to earth. Each tear generated a rudraksha tree whose tiny fruits

are born of the tears of rudra—the Lord Almighty Himself.

The word rudraksha, in fact, comes from the two Sanskrit words rudra, a synonym

for Lord Shiva, and aksha, meaning “eyes”. Botanically, the rudraksha tree is

known as Elaecarpus ganitrus Roxb. These trees grow in very few places in the

world including the Himalayas of India and Nepal, as well as in parts of

Indonesia. They are large trees with a wide silhouette whose flowers bloom

annually. The rudraksha berry varies in size (3-40 mm; 1/8 to 1½ inches). It

has smooth light green skin and pulp much like a green grape. Lodged within the

pulp is a single round seed which has a rough surface and a hole running through

it from top to bottom. It is these seeds which are the rudraksha beads. Each

seed also possesses fron 1 to 21 vertical lines running down its surface, like

the longitude lines on a globe. These lines are known as mukhas, or facets, and

are natural formations of the seed. Seeds with one vertical line are known as

ek-mukhi (one facet); those

with two lines are dwi-mukhi (two facets), and so on.Many different Hindu

scriptures written over many different periods of history describe divine

qualities of this little bead. One intriguing aspect of rudraksha lore is that

it is worn and worshipped by absolutely everyone regardless of caste, religion,

sect, creed, color, or sex. Given the highly secularized history of India this

is quite peculiar. Even today, as in past times, it is worn by the Brahmin

priest while performing solemn ceremonies, by the soldier engaged in battle, by

the store owner or stockbroker conducting business, by the student for

knowledge, the poorest of our society for sustenance. Generally speaking, one

who wears the rudraksha in the prescribed manner will invoke the energies of

Lord Shiva and negative thoughts and emotions will be destroyed. Rudraksha has

a calming effect on the central nervous system. It is said that the rudraksha

helps maintain a normal blood pressure and helps maintains health. It has no

adverse effects and promotes peace of mind and prosperity for the wearer. In

various ancient scriptures (i.e. Padma Purana, Shiva Purana, Mantramaharnava,

Rudrajabalopanishad) it is proclaimed that if a person meets his death while

wearing a rudraksha he is released from the cycle of life and death and

achieves moksha (liberation). These are the general qualities of the rudraksha

bead; the following are the specific attributes of the beads of various numbers

of mukhas (lines or “facets”):

1 Mukhi Extremely rare and equally expensive when found. It represents the

Supreme Self. Its wearer is bestowed with worldly comfort and spiritual

fulfillment. 2 Mukhi Fosters harmony and oneness between those who are divided.

Extremely rare. Given to children who are being married by their parents. 3

Mukhi Represents Agni, Lord of Fire. Helps dispel mental lethargy and

depression. Attracts wealth. 4 Mukhi Represents Brahma, the Creator. Worn by

students and those who need to renew and recreate. Helps expand vision and

mental horizons. Increases attractiveness. 5 Mukhi The fullest representation

of Lord Shiva. It will destroy negative thoughts and emotions and grant the

wearer peace of mind and clarity of purpose. Helps achieve one’s goals. All

malas which are worn around the neck or used as japa mala (prayer beads) should

be of five mukhi. There should be 108 beads or, alternatively, 54. 6 Mukhi The

one worn by soldiers, police, adventurers, and all persons exposed to danger.

It protects one from harm and instills calm and will power in the wearer. It

represents Lord Kartikeya. 7 Mukhi Represents the goddess Laxmi, and is

actually stated to be her abode. This rudraksha is not worn but rather is kept

in a wooden box together with a small sum of cash. It will help overcome

financial hardship and bring abundance. 8 Mukhi This rudraksha represents the

famous Lord Ganesha, the elephant-faced God. It will help those who have

continuously failed in a specific endeavor despite many attempts to succeed.

Removal of past sins. 9 Mukhi This bead represents Mother Durga and can help

motivate a person who is experiencing mental inertia (tamas). Protects one’s

children from misfortune. 10 Mukhi Protects the wearer from those people and

things that may harm him. 11 Mukhi. This rudraksha represents Lord Hanuman, the

Monkey-God. It promotes excellent general physical and mental health, gives

insight and vision, and deflects evil thoughts. Increases energy, power, and

mental stamina. 12 Mukhi Represents Surya, the Sun. It wearer will have the

attention and respect of the world and be presented with opportunity. 13 Mukhi

Represents Lord Indra and brings the wearer an appreciation and awareness of

the spiritual realm. 14 Mukhi This bead is worn only on the forehead in a

special headband, after being blessed by a priest in a special puja ceremony.

It is said to activate the ajna chakra (third eye) and bestow subtle vision and

intuitive powers. Only worn if instructed to do so by one’s guru. 15-21 Mukhi

rudrakshas should be kept as a set of seven beads on the personal prayer alter

where they will bring health, peace, and prosperity to the family.

How To Use and Care For The Rudraksha Mala

It is best to wear the rudraksha mala (i.e necklace) for the first time on a

Monday. If at all possible it should be first brought to a Shiva temple for

sanctification early on a Monday morning and then worn immediately after

worship. If a Shiva temple is not available then simply wear it initially on a

Monday. At bedtime remove the mala and place it on the alter in your home. When

traveling you should sleep with it on. After bathing in the morning, hold the

mala in the right hand and repeat the appropriate mantra aloud (see below) for

108 times. Do not wear the rudraksha mala during periods of menstrual bleeding

or while attending funerals. The rudraksha mala has a very long lifespan. A

properly cared for mala can be passed along to eight generations as a family

heirloom. The rudraksha mala cn be washed occasionally with warm soapy water

and allowed to dry naturally. Do not soak for extended periods of time.

Rudraksha beads vary in size from 3-40 mm. The size of the bead has no bearing

on its effects. However a given mala must contain beads all with the same

number of mukhis.

Beeja Mantras For The Various Rudrakshas

For Mukhi 1, 4, 5, 10, and 13: Om Hreem Namah For Mukhi 2 and 14: Om Namah For

Mukhi 3: Om Kleem Namah For Mukhi 7 and 8: Om Hum Namah For Mukhi 6, 9, and 11:

Fake Rudraksha Beads

In the interest of consumer protection and public education, we are obligated to

inform you that many varieties of fake rudraksha are being sold throughout the

world and over the internet. These beads are sold in large quantities in India

by unscrupulous people taking advantage of the recent increased interest in

them. The typical price at which they are sold ranges from $100 to $50,000 (for

a fake ek-mukhi)!!! Be particularly careful about ever purchasing a one-faced

rudraksha (ek-mukhi). NIAM does not trade in round one mukhis as they are not

currently available in nature at all . Even if you buy them for several

thousand dollars or from a reputable ashram or reliable person, it is not

authentic. No tree in India, Nepal or Indonesia has produced the ek-mukhi in

the past few centuries. Only if one acquires one which has been passed down

from generation to generation might it be possible to find this exceedingly

rare object.

Also, if you find rudrakshas offered at very low prices, it is unlikely to be

authentic. Many fake rudrakshas are being fashioned today out of betel nut,

lotus seed, polyvinyl plastic, and other materials. The sellers are extremely

skillful at creating the appearance of authentic rudrakshas. There are no

accurate tests to identify real beads except for examination by an experienced

scholar of the species.

NIAM offers a free Authentication Service where there might be doubt regarding

authenticity of any Rudraksha beads purchased anywhere in the world. For this

service the client pays shipping both ways to NIAM but there is no other

charge. You can also try sending high-resolution scanned photos of your

rudraksha to us by email. If we can identify it as real or fake in that way we

will inform you.

Introduction to Rudrakshas - IThe Tears of Lord Shiva that are the Rudraksha

Beads have been worn by the Yogis of India and the Himalayas for thousands of

years for the Fearless Life on their Path to Enlightenment and Liberation.

The many Devotees of Truth who deliberately live their lives according to

Eternal Natural Law that is Sanatana Dharma Know that Rudraksha Beads are a

Gift from The Almighty God and are a Natural Birth Right of the Mankind.

The Holy Rudraksha Beads are based in the Absolute Field of Consciousness and

they manifest in the Relative Field for the good of all concerned to help

relieve sin and suffering and pain world wide for all Cultures and all the

Mankind.

It might be new for some to think that Natural Beads of vegetable matter from

the Rudraksha Tree could affect the human neuro-physiology as they do in the

ways described in the ancient Vedic literature.

However, recent scientific research has again found Vedic Knowledge to be

correct. Rudraksha beads are the original Vedic beads of power and have been

used for thousands of years as an aid to self empowerment and the fearless

Life.

It has been shown that Rudraksha beads have electromagnetic properties and that

they affect the human body when worn on the skin. In addition to this,

scientific research has found that as the different faces or Mukhis occur on

the different Beads the electromagnetic qualities change from bead to bead and

affect the human neuro-physiology in different life supporting ways.

In scientific terms the Rudraksha Beads are Dielectric as they store electrical

energy and they have permanent magnetic properties that change with the

different faced beads.

Properties found inherent in the Rudraksha bead are electromagnetic,

paramagnetic, diamagnetic and dynamic polarity or the ability to change its

polarity. It has also been shown that Rudraksha have anti-ageing properties

based on their electromagnetism.

Introduction to Rudrakshas - II

Although today's science knows that magnetism affects the Human Body in

different ways they cannot explain how a Rudraksha Bead of vegetable matter can

have electrical and magnetic properties. When Rudraksha Beads are worn they

interface and integrate with the Human Body at a silent subtle level of

Consciousness. Due to their Dielectric and Magnetic Properties the Rudraksha

Beads initiate and effect positive change in the Bio Electrical System of the

Human Body in a life supporting manner. As a result of this change in the

electrical makeup of our body, positive change is also initiated in our Bio

Chemical System. As Bioelectrical and Biochemical actions and reactions

organize in the body at higher levels of interaction another change is then

initiated in our Bio Mechanical System and the Sacred Trinity of Body Systems

are in Union with one another.

Supporting scientific evidence for these statements are found in Published

Research Papers of Mr. D. Suhas Roy etal of Indian Institute of Technology (

IT-BHU ) Banaras India describing the beneficial powers of Rudraksha by virtue

of its Electrical and Magnetic properties that affect our Central Nervous

System, Autonomic, Sympathetic and Para Sympathetic Nervous Systems and various

other Organ Systems in toto. Mr. D. Suhas Roy and a Group of Scientists proved

that wearing Rudraksha controlled heart beat and had a positive effect on Blood

Pressure, Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Palpitations and Lack of Concentration.

Additional statements indicate an anti ageing property by wearing Rudraksha and

that the different 1 Mukhi to 15 Mukhi Beads have specific powers and have

powerful Electromagnetic, Paramagnetic and Inductive properties that vary for

different Mukhi or Facets. Mr. Roy also states that "one can wear the

combination of all beads" and "One can also wear a pendant of any specific

facet of beads" and "Either more number of a particular facet of beads or a mix

of different facet of beads can be worn". He states that normally within 45 days

you can start feeling the positive change. In 90 days you can feel much better.

Thereafter it will work continuously giving benefits. When asked Can Rudraksha

cause harm his answer was "No it cannot". He states that all beads are not

recommended for those below 8 years of age.

Additional Knowledge can be added to these statements with rules from the Devi

Bhagwat stating "The mentioned rules of wearing Rudraksha of different colours

by different persons are not compulsory". And Ladies are allowed to wear

Rudraksha. Through acts of Service and Spiritual Discipline and Self

Empowerment and the Act of Listening to our UpaGuru all the Mankind can change

their destiny to have the best in life for the good of all concerned.

Legend behind Rudraksha

Shiva Purana describe Rudrakshas origin as Lord Shiva's tears. He had been

meditating for many years for the welfare of all creatures. On opening the

eyes, hot drops of tears rolled down and the mother earth gave birth to

Rudraksha trees.

Lord Siva has many aspects indicated by His 1,008 names Lord Siva is responsible

for creation, evolution and dissolution. Lord Siva dances creation out of

existence at the end of time and then after an appropriate time He destroys the

silence itself by dancing and the activity of His dance gives rise to the

appearance of Narayana and causes creation again. Through the grace of Lord

Siva we are able to come to a state where we stop identifying with the Relative

aspect of ourselves and come to know our true identity as one with the Absolute.

This is the death of death itself. This is immortality. It is the total

destruction of all limitation and all sorrow in our lives and this miracle can

only be brought about by the power of Lord Siva. That is why He is called Lord

Siva the Auspicious One. He destroys our limitations and our fears. He is the

very embodiment of total kindness. He is the Lord of Yogis presiding over

Transcendental

Knowledge.

Lord Siva is also known as Rudra and the Lord of Tears. The meaning of the name

Rudra is traceable to the Vedas and said to be derived from rud ( dravayita ) he

who drives away sin or suffering.Eight different aspects of nature are the

direct manifestations of Rudra and they are Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space, The

Sun,The Moon and the Life Force. Anything good and auspicious, anything that

keeps us healthy and happy and anything that helps us attain freedom from pain

and misery is Rudra.

Legend behind Rudraksha - II

Sri Rudram is one of the five scriptural texts chosen by the ancients for

constant repetition and meditation. The five are the Upanishads of one's own

Sakha, The Bhagavad Gita, The Vishnu Sahasranama, Sri Rudram and Purusha

Suktam. Vedic Literature states As by pouring water at the root of a tree, all

its branches are nourished, by pleasing Sri Rudra through Rudrajapa, all the

Devas are pleased. One attains Bhakthi and Mukhti, enjoyment of life as well as

freedom from the ills of the world by the chanting of Sri Rudram with devotion

To the Rudra who is in fire, who is in water, who is in trees and plants, who

has entered into the entire universe, to that Rudra let our salutations go

Vedic Literature shows that the Rudraksa Bead was created from the tears of

Rudra, the fierce form of Lord Siva thus endowing it with medicinal and

Spiritual Powers.

Each of the many types of Rudraksa Beads have a governing Diety and specific

powers and properties.

Two of the most important rules to be observed in the Asta avarana that are the

eight aids or protections are the uttering of the five syllabled formula or

Mantra that is Namah Sivaya and the wearing of the Sacred Rudrakshas

Importance of Rudrakshas

"Mlechkhho Vaapi chandalo Yukto Va sarvapaatakai,Rudraksha Dharayedyastu Sa

Rudra Natra sanshaya". The men who are Mlechchha, chandaal (impious and

inhumane) or he who is full of all kinds of vices get the form of Lord Rudra.

There is no suspicion about it. "Dhyaan dharan Heenoapi Rudraksham Dharaya

Budhah, Sarvapaap Vinirmukto sa yaati, Paramam gatim." A man with meditation

and perseverance and a wise man who wears Rudraksha gets rid of all the sins

and attains the supreme goal of the human life.

"Shiva Poojayam Asya Mala Dharana ma vashyakam". It means that Rudraksha mala

must be worn at the time of worshipping Lord Shiva.

"Rudraksha Kewalam Waapi Yatra Kutra Mahamate, Sumantrakam Wa Mantren Rahitam

Bhava VarjitamYo Wa ko Wa naro Bhaktya Dharyellajjayaapi Wa, Sarvapaap

Vinirmukta Samyagjnanam An Wapnuyaat" Rudraksha can be worn by chanting mantra

or without chanting it , with reverence or without it, with devotion or without

it, with shame or without same i.e. with whatsoever procedure a man who wears

Rudraksha gets rid of all kinds of sins and gets knowledge well.

"Shiva bhaktya shantaya dadyadrudrakshashuttaman, Tasya Punyaphal syantam nacha

ha vaktumats the Dhritrudraksha kanthaya yastvanna sam pryachchhatitri Saptakula

mudadhritya Rudraalokam sa gachchhati." A Shiv bhakta i.e. devotee of Lord Shiva

should be given Rudraksha for peace. The limitlessness of the result of its

virtues cannot be described. A man, who gives food to the wearer of Rudraksha,

reaches Rudraloka i.e. the kingdom of Lord

Rudra after providing salvation to seven orders of his ancestors. If the wearer

of the Rudraksha dies, he does not take another birth, he reaches the kingdom

of Rudra. If a man who is wearing Rudraksha around the neck or an arm, dies, he

lives in the kingdom of Rudra after providing salvation to 21 orders of his

ancestors. A man who wears Rudraksha with Pearls, Coral, Crystal, Silver, Gold

or other precious stone, takes the form of Lord Shiva. The devotee who worships

Lord Shiva in the form of Rudraksha devotedly, becomes a king inspite of being

poor.

"Arudrakshadharo Bhootwa yadyat Karmach Vaidikam, Karoti Japahomaadi tat sarwe

nisphalam bhavet"

A man who perform Vedic rituals, chanting mantras, yajnas etc without wearing

Rudraksha, gets no virtue or fruit.

Importance of Rudraksha - II

"Snane dane jape home vaishvadeva surarchne, Prayashchite tatha shraadhde

deeksha kaale visheshatah, Arudraksha Dharo Bhootwa yat kimchit karma vaidikim,

Kurvan viprastu Mohen NarakepatatiDhruwam."

Failing to wear Rudraksha , a man who performs religious deeds/bathing,

worshipping gods Vishwadeva to perform the penitence (repent) and shraadhda

karmas (deeds for bygone souls) , at initiation, falls prey to innocence and

worldly attachment and at last falls into hell i.e. his down-fall comes. It is

the reason why a man should wear Rudraksha while performing religious

activities. The wearer of Rudraksha not only makes Lord Shiva happy but pleases

Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu, Ganesh, Kaartikey, Durga, Indra, Aditya and the

ruling deities of the nine planets.

No men, seers and scholars are tired of describing he importance of Rudraksha.

Rudraksha is very much dear to Lord Shiva. No body can imagine the image of

Lord Shiva without Rudraksha. Seeing, chanting and worshipping Rudraksha burns

all the sins to ashes. A man can feel unlimited pleasure only by seeing

Rudraksha. The wishers of devotion and salvation should wear it after purifying

themselves. Mainly the devotees of Lord Shiva must wear it because it removes

their numerous pains, sorrows, and calamities. Rudraksha fulfills all the

wishes. It is peerless in the universe. It is the dearest ornament to Lord

Shiva. If an innocent, un devoted and immoral man wears Rudraksha with love and

faith, he gets rid of all sins and attains the supreme goal. As long as a man

keeps wearing Rudraksha, he does not fear untimely death. He cannot die without

completing his span of life. At the time of death he gets the true knowledge of

Lord Shiva and His

abode too.

One should wear Rudraksha by all bits of efforts.Rudraksha Beads have been worn

by mankind for thousands of years for good health, religious attainment through

Japa and Shakti (power) and for the fearless life. Wherever Rudraksha is

worshipped the Goddess of wealth always stays there. One can escape from

untimely death by wearing Rudraksha.Rudraksha assists in awakening of Kundilini

(the self pleasure point).Rudraksha is helpful for worldly and heavenly

attainments.Rudraksha can make the whole family live together in peace and

harmony.

Rudraksha is best known for its biomedical properties and in controlling stress,

hypertension and blood pressure. Rudraksha help increase Self power and invoke

Self love . They also enhance the Charisma of the wearer . Rudraksha can cure

various dangerous diseases like small pox, epilepsy, whooping cough etc. and

heal the most poisonous wounds, if used as a prescription, in a specified

method. It gives peace of mind to the wearer, stimulates the mind and sharpens

the intellect.

Properties & Identification of RudrakshaThe term Rudraksha (Rudra i.e. Shiva +

aksha i.e. eye) literally stands for the "eyes" of Lord Shiva or Rudra implying

thereby that it was pleasant to the eyes of Lord Shiva, and hence so named in

His honour. This reveals that the merit of Rudraksha beads were realized first

by Lord Shiva Himself and He handed down the same to the benefit of the later

generations.

Rudraksha beads are a plant product, containing carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen,

oxygen and trace elements in combined form. The percentage compositions of

their gaseous elements was determined by C-H-N Analyzer and by Gas

chromatography. The result shows that Rudraksha beads consist of 50.031 %

carbon, 0.95% nitrogen, 17.897% hydrogen and 30.53% oxygen.

In the medicinal and botanical world, Rudraksha is the purest, the most

effective, useful, ancient thing which is the most popular too. It is a fruit

as well as a seed . Its origin place is in Malaya, India, Java & Sumatra

(Indonesia) Burma and Nepal. Rudraksha is the fruit of a tree. It grows in

bunches. They bloom in May, June and ripen in September to November. It's fruit

is light green in colour. It is circular like gular (fruit of banyan tree). Its

pulp is hard and remains stuck to its seed. It is like blackberry. It is kept

in water for a number of days and then Rudraksha is taken out after peeling off

the pulp.

It's kinds are four, according to Mythological books- Brahmin, Kshatriya,

Vaishya and Shoodra. Its division is not based on caste system but it is based

on their ability to wear. But the wearing of Rudraksha of different colours by

different persons are not compulsory. Even Ladies are allowed to wear

Rudraksha. The original whitish colour of Rudraksha is dyed into orange colour

which is a symbolic colour of the saints and sanyasees. Orange colour Rudraksha

becomes useful to all kinds of men of any age, caste, sect, religion and sex and

according to one's liking for its size, colour or face (Mukh-line).It is not

very difficult to recognize a real Rudraksha. On account of its increasing

importance and price, it is made artificially also and these artificial

Rudrakshas are also being sold in market.

Artificial Rudraksha is often made from the wild berry seeds or nuts. But in

these artificial Rudraksha, no facet can be made as real as the ones that are

in the genuine ones and can easily be detected by an experienced eye .

Here the facet (Mukh) means deep lining from the upper part to the lower part

of Rudraksha. Looking at these deep linings-facets one can recognize real

Rudraksha. There are many other criteria written to recognize Rudraksha, such

as the sinking and floating of Rudraksha in the water and revolving between two

coins. But it is not a correct criterion. Even an unripe but genuine Rudraksha

may float in the water , and a non genuine ones made out of wood impregnated

with lead may sink . Therefore, we should not bother about these suspicions and

false notions. The Rudraksha should be brought seeing the faces of Rudraksha and

from a genuine supplier.

Properties & Identification of Rudraksha - II

Generally there are various numbers of faces on a Rudraksha, from one faced to

sixteen faced. . Generally five faced Rudraksha are found easily and abundantly

..One faced Rudraksha round variety is found very rarely and its price is also

too much. Most of these beads being circulated are fake ones made from berries

and betel nuts and Areca nuts . Some have a stem implanted in them artificially

to give a real look . Some Giant sized beads are sold as 1 mukhis which are

manufactured ones . Also some suppliers sell fake 1 mukhis which have Serpent,

Trishul , Lingam etc carved on them . These are also fakes . A real Rudraksha

does not have these markings .

Rudraksha having 2,3,4,6,7, or 8 faces is found very often but its price is more

than the five faced Rudraksha's. Fake Rudraksha are generally found in very high

mukhi beads also , like 21 mukhi , where artificial lines are carved on nuts .

Also some scrupulous people fake Gauri Shankar Rudraksha by gluing together two

Rudraksha beads . But these can be again detected by little experience and

awareness . Please note that the idea of informing about Fake Rudraksha is not

to scare away people , but to make them aware .

Generally Rudraksha sold are genuine as they are available in plenty naturally .

It is only in the case of rare Rudraksha that fakes are sold to satisfy the

increasing demand by unscrupulous people . It is to be noted that the market

price of Rudraksha does not affect its religious or spiritual importance or

medicinal value. Thus there is no link or connection between the price of

Rudraksha and its religious, spirituals and medicinal importance.

It has also many sizes and shapes. Its seeds are often round but exceptionally

they are found long, semi circular, convex and flat. There is a variety of

Rudraksha which is convex and flat . These are not from Nepal and are called

Bhadraksha and are considered inferior to Rudraksha . Rudraksha are available

in big as well as small sizes. Big Rudrakshas are easily available but small

ones are found in less number. The smallest Rudraksha has the size equal to

black pepper. Its gradually bigger sizes are equal to big peas, plum and amla.

It is believed that the mala of the smallest beads is better than that of any

other size. It is also very easy to wear but it is difficult to find.

Therefore, its price is very dear.

It is very uncomfortable to wear the mala of big beads but it is comfortable

when it is used to count mantras . Also big sized Rudraksha are kept in Prayer

room . As lightening arresters are installed in buildings to save them from

lighting, Rudraksha protects the body from outside influences, mental shocks,

heart problems and stress. The electro-magnetic waves in the life form may be

responsible for mazing powers of Rudraksha discovered several thousand years

go.

Dear Sister Doris; AUM Sri Sai Ram:

Your article has been very timely as some of us received Rudraksha from Nepal

and did not have all the details pertaining to the many facets of it. Thank you

so much.

Dear Member,

This posting made very good reading. I love true knowledge wherever

it is whether it is original or borrowed. You are blseed by Lord

Kameshwara Himself to have sent this article.

I would like to add a small insight to this rudraksha-gyaan that not

many people know.It is regarding the maintenance of the rudraksha.

Any rudraksha which is obtained should be dipped in Neem oil for 7

days and kept before Either Rajarajeshwari Devi or Durga Maiyya and

then a Saptha shathi parayan done and then the rudrakshas are dried

in the shade under sun. Then they are dipped in Chandanaadi Thailam

(it is an ayurvedic oil prepared with sandalwood and other

herbs). This then is kept before a linga and then Rudra Namaka

chamakam is chanted. Then a Rudrabhisheka is performed to these

rudrakshas. Then this is worn or kept in the pooja as the case

maybe. This will make it super-charged.Ofcourse the rudraksha mukhi

mantras are to chanted to give extra power to this.

This will make the wearer blissed and blessed.

Thank you very much for your posting. I am giving few more hints to protect

rudraksha and to get more effects from it. To engergize Rudraksha fruits, it

is necessary to touch it to any of the Jyotirlinga in our country, and to do

Rudrabhishek. If it is not possible, then Rudraksha may be touched to other

dieties at any pilgrim place. These fifferent pilgrim places are the power

points. Rudraksha taken with the hands of a Spiritual Guru ( male or female) is

also more effective.

The best way to protect rudraksha is not to take bath wearing valuable higher

mukhi rudraksha. Rudraksha absorbs water very fast and takes time to evaporate

the same. This attracts fungi and insects ultimately spoiling the rudraksha.

However, while taking bath, 4 to 6 mukhi rudraksha mala which is comparatively

cheap may be used.

While doing Rudraksha Puja, never dip in water or pour any water on it. Just

wipe it with a wet smooth cloth. Make it dry immediately. Never apply sandle

wood paste, kumkum, haladi on it. It spoils the bead. Instead, as you have

mentioned in your posting Sandlewood oil with other oils may be used. Do not

put any flowers etc. on your valuable rudraksha kept in Puja. Valuable

rudraksha may be kept in a box on a dry cotton or silk cloth with sufficient

camphor.

At least once in a week, wash your rudraksha mala in a luke warm water (not very

hot water) using a soft soap and soft tooth brush. Dry it thoroughly in the

strong sunlight and then start using it. It is important to note that, mukhi

part of higher mukhi beads is very delicate and may get cut-off or spoiled with

careless handling.

Never keep your rudraksha mala packed in a polythene bag. This again atttracts

fungi and insect due to moisture. If you do not want to use your mala for a

long time, then either keep it in Bhasma box or keep it hanging in your

wardrobe.

Rudrakshas are basically botanical valuable rare material and requires proper care.

Thanking you and with best wishes,

Chandrashekhar Phadke
