Wash each participants hands with a teaspoon of water whilst saying

the above 3 Gayatri Mantras i.e put a teaspoon of water in each

the water which is in his/her hands.

4. The person doing the hawan should then fill the teaspoon with

water and holding the spoon, should say the purpose of the prayer,

i.e:

"We are doing this prayer for peace"

Then follows a prayer to Swami. This is a most sacred prayer. It is

for you as an individual…. your family, your friends, your

centre, your town, your province, your country. The prayer will be

in personal words, along the lines of……..

"Swami, there is a lot of violence throughout the whole

country. Please protect us, your devotees, our families, our

friends and relatives, our centre, this town, this province, the

country that we live in. Keep us from harm, Lord. Grant us all

understanding and tolerance, so that we may all live in peace with

each other.

Cleanse our hearts and minds of hate, and sow love in us all, that

this country may truly be called Your land…." …

whatever comes direct from your heart..

Now, put the water from the spoon into the empty container.

Cleanse the area around the khund with water – 3 times

Light 2 to 3 pieces of camphor saying "OM Sai Ram" to start

the fire.

fire.

"Please Swami, forgive us for any mistakes we may have made in

making our prayer"

Put the water from the spoon into the bowl with the first. Water

should be left to evaporate.

11. End with the Aarathi.

SAI SURYA GAYATRI

Chant 3 x Aum and Gayatri Mantra

A brief explanation why we are doing the Hawan to be read out aloud.

1) In Swami's cosmic drama He has chosen to take on some injuries to

his body.

2) Swami has advised that our praying for His recovery has speeded

up His recovery.

3) Swami has advised that His body is not His but our body and that

we should look after it.

4) There is a strong connection between Swami's bodily injuries and

our bad habits.

5) Swami has advised that He is totally unselfish and as such He

will not use His divine powers to cure his own injuries.

6) Our behaviour has a direct effect on Swami's body.

7) This havan must manifest itself as our love for Swami and

secondly as our duty to Swami.

8) When undertaking the havan the atmosphere around us will be

purified.

9) It is easiest for us to give up a bad habit in a purified

atmosphere.

10) The habit that we give up need not be large. We can begin with

giving up small bad habits and this will lead to bigger undertakings

as our confidence grows.

11) Doing this in a group energy and in the name of Swami will be

easier than doing this alone.

12) The bad habit that we choose to give up could be mental or

physical.

13) The first rule of service is - don't harm anybody in thought,

word or deed.

PRAYER TO SWAMI to be repeated by all the devotees.

SWAMI WE ARE UNDERTAKING THIS SAI SURYA GAYATRI HAVAN TO YOU,

IN THE BELIEF THAT BY PURIFING OURSELVES AND OFFERING YOU OUR LOVE IN

THE FORM OF PRAYER, YOUR INJURIES WILL BE HEALED. SWAMI LET OUR FAITH

AND PRAYERS MERGING WITH YOUR LOVE HEAL YOUR INJURIES.

2 Minutes silence while we tune into Swami.

a) Offer all participants one teaspoon of water to wash their

hands.

b) Chant "Aum Shree Ganeshaye namah" and the Gayatri mantra 3

times while doing c & d.

c) Take a teaspoon of water and say "the purpose of the prayer

is that Swami's hip should be healed."

d) Pour this teaspoon of water into a saucer.

e) Sprinkle water around the Hawan Kund. This water is for

cleansing.

f) Place lit camphor in each corner and one in the centre of the

hawan kund. Chant "Aum Shree Sai Ram" whilst doing this.

g) The facilitator to inform participants that "When you offer

the samaghree into the fire, simultaneously one should offer or

surrender to Swami one bad habit and ask Swami's help in letting

go of that habit."

h) Chant 108 "Sai Surya Gayatri Mantra ending with "Aum

Swaha" and offer the Samagri into the fire upon chanting "Om Swaha."

Om Shree Bhaaskaraya Vidmahe

Sai Dhevaya Dheemahi

Thannah Surya Prachodhayath

Aum Swaha

English Meaning:

We know this Self-shining Entity.

We meditate on this Divinity as Sai Surya.

May this Divine Light enlighten us on the path to liberation.

i) End the havan by chanting 3 Gayatri Mantra's and offer a

coconut into the fire, symbolising the offering of our Tamasic and

Rajasic qualities to Swami.

j) End with the Arathi.

Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu (x3)

Aum Shanti Shanti Shanti

Jai Bolo Bhagavan Shree Sathya Sai Babaji Ki - Jai

k) At the end of the Arathi the facilitator should again take a

teaspoon of water and offer it in the same saucer whilst saying

"the purpose of the prayer was for Swami's injuries to be cured"

and "Swami, please forgive us for any mistakes we may have made

in doing our prayer".

l) This water should then be left to evaporate.

m) Participants now move away from the Havan in silence, and sit
