It was from a 60's group. Maybe Country Joe and The Fish or Grateful Dead. Ask Livtar Singh. He knows everything...Dr. Dharma************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com.

Sat Nam. The "Long Time Sunshine" song was originally written by the Incredible String Band.

Sat Nam, Kala! The song comes from the final couplet of a much longer song

by The Incredible String Band. It's called " A Very Cellular Song " and it's

on their wonderful 1968 album " The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter. " You can

still purchase the CD of that album. The complete lyrics to that song can

be found here: http://tinyurl.com/3acpt9

Way back when... Yogi Ji heard us singing the song and picked it up and

started asking us to sing it after every class.

All love, .....G

Hi, the long time sun song comes from the group " The

Incredible String Band " . They were, and still are I

think, a folk type group from England. I personally

really love their music.

I'm sure you will get a dozen replies to the origin of the " Long Time

Sun " song. It was recorded back in the '60s by The Incredible String

Band on an album called The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter. I'm not sure

how it became the closing song of Kundalini Yoga classes back then, but

it was that song that got me " hooked " to coming back after my first

class in Berkeley in 1969. I was really into the Incredible String Band

already and loved that song, so when I heard them singing it at the end

of class I knew that these people must be cool.

BTW, this album is available on CD if you want to hear the original

version.

Sat Nam,

Sahib-Amar Kaur

I believe that the amazing Simran Kaur told us that Yogi B had heard the Incredible String Band perform it and asked them if he could use the song for our yoga classes, to which they happily consented. Sat Nam Amrit Manter Singh

The song was recorded by the "Incredible String Band" in the late

60's. The words to the song however, were not written by them.

I don't know who wrote it, but Gurcharan Singh (KRI) tried to buy the

rights at one time for 3HO. He may remember the name, but whoever owned

the rights at that time did not want to sell, or it was too expensive.

If you read old Irish prayers (may the road rise up to meet you),

you'll notice a similarity. I don't know if it's an old poem, or was

written to sound like it.

There is another song you may have heard, the "Birthday Song" that contains

the lyrics of "Long Time Sun". The "Birthday Song" has these lyrics,

written by Livtar Singh (that's me):

<On this day the Lord gave you life

May you use it to serve Him

Our loving prayers will be with you

May you never forget Him.>

Followed by "The Long Time Sun" (not written by me) as the second part.

So ends this portion of the history of "Long Time Sun".

May the Kundalini rise up to enlighten you,

Livtar Singh

In a lecture of Yogi Ji's I once read, he said something to the affect

that there is no other combination of words like " May The Long Time

Sunshine Song " that gives us the essence of the innocence of the

flower children of 60's. Once in while I'll let the students know

that too. Love & Flowers, Atma Kaur

The Song 'Long Time Sun' comes from the end of a song called 'A Very Cellular Song' by The Incredible String Band, from an album called 'Hi Five'. It was written by Mike Heron of that band. Rumours that this is an old traditional song are false. Mike Heron has not been credited with this song, and its widespread use in Kundalini yoga is in breach of copyright law. Do look further into this. Mike Heron is not a rich man! He could do with receiving the royalities he deserves for writing this beautiful song. Yours sincerely, Rosi Lalor (UK)
