Dear Sir/Madam

Animal Cruelty at Danga Bay Petting Zoo, Malaysia

I would like to highlight a case of cruelty and animal abuse at Malaysia Johor

Bahru's Danga Bay Petting Zoo.

I went there yesterday and paid RM10 to enter the petting zoo, thinking it

would be a place to educate members of the public about animals. Much to my

horror, I found animals such as sun bears, praire dogs, tigers, lions and an

Asian elephant kept inside extremely small enclosures and cages. Some of

these cages were so small, the animals could only pace helplessly inside.

Most heartwrenchingly, the elephant was shacked so tightly that he could not

move at all inside his pen. From the animals' behaviour, they were either

highly restless or were resigned to their fate.

Worse still, the animals were forced to do public performances against their

nature. Nevertheless, they complied because they were whipped and beaten by

their keepers. Ridiculous performances include forcing a tiger to do

tight-rope walking while beating him repeatedly with a stick if he refused.

I am highly anguished that these animals were encaged in such poor living

conditions and abused. When speaking to the keepers, I got the idea that

they were mainly imported from Thailand.

Please do something about this. If you care about animals, please help them

and check if such animals can possibly be rescued. I hope other zoos can be

contacted to rehouse these animals and provide them with appropriate care. I

don't know where I can help but I will help do whatever I can.

I have [attached some photos] to substantiate my claims.

Regards

Minmin
