Thiruvananthapuram: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced a solatium
of $5 million to US Red Cross for relief work in Hurricane Katrina hit
areas in New Orleans on Saturday. Discuss: India can't afford to give
$5 million aid to US
This was disclosed here by Prime Minister's media advisor Sanjay Baru.
Officials said the prime minister had wanted to speak to George W Bush
over the telephone on Friday but failed because the US President was
traveling. The prime minister is at present visiting Kerala and Tamil
Nadu.
