Dear FRIENDS

I WOULD BE GIVING THE COMBINATIONS FOR ASTROLOGERS

Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra:

BPHS ch 33 87: Ketu in the 5th from Swamsa will make

one a mathematician and skilful in Jyotish. Should Jupiter

be related to the said Ketu, these learnings will be by

inheritance. All these as

well apply to 2nd and 3rd from Swamsa and to the

Swamsa itself apart

from applying to the 5th from Swamsa.

BPHS ch 33 sl 44 and Ketu or Rahu in Karakamsh or in

the 5th from there denotes that one is a Jyotishi. Jaimini in his

Upadesha Sutras expands further on

Parasar by writing that these combinations of Ketu in the 5th/swamsa

are also to be seen from AL and lagna. Likewise that not only the

5th

house is to be looked at, but every trine. Also Parasara and

Jaimini make reference to Ketu in

the 5th making the person a watchmaker. Ketu seems to be related to

the measuring of time. Both of these sages mention specifically

Ketu and

Rahu as indicating jyotishis. These also seem to be important for

astrology.

What is Swamsa?

Amsa means "division" and refers to the position in a divisional

charts - navamsa usually. So lagnamsa is the position of lagna in

navamsa. Karakamsa is the position of atma karaka (variable

significator of self) in navamsa. Atma karaka is the planet (out of

seven planets and Rahu) with the largest advancement in the rasi

occupied. For Rahu, advancement is measured from the end of the sign.

Let us take an example.

Body Longitude

Lagna 7 Aq 26' 00.69"

Sun 26 Aq 02' 48.83"

Moon 3 Ge 51' 59.65"

Mars 1 Ta 53' 19.80"

Mercury 16 Aq 32' 56.39"

Jupiter ® 4 Vi 37' 58.82"

Venus 17 Aq 04' 18.34"

Saturn 20 Sc 54' 58.50"

Rahu 29 Li 52' 33.46"

Ketu 29 Ar 52' 33.46"

If you look at the advancement in rasi, Sun has 26 deg 3 min. Moon

has 3 deg 52 min. Though Rahu is at 29Li52, his

advancement (from the end) is only 8 minutes (30-0 minus 29-52). of

the eight planets, Sun has the largest

advancement and becomes atma karaka (AK).

Let us take this native's navamsa:

In navamsa, lagna is in Sg. So Sg becomes lagnamsa. AK in this chart

is Sun and he is in Ta in navamsa. So

karakamsa is in Ta.

Swa simply means "self" and may refer to either lagna or atma karaka.

So swamsa refers the position of either

lagna or atmakaraka in navamsa. Parasara used "swamsa" for both

lagnamsa and karakamsa. So swamsa here

is in Sg or Ta, depending on what we mean.

What do they both show?

Navamsa shows the inner self, sense of dharma (duty) and motivation.

It shows attitudes. Analysis of navamsa

w.r.t. lagnamsa shows the motivation and attitudes of the person.

Analysis of navamsa w.r.t. karakamsa

shows the motivation and attitudes of the soul that's inside a

person. If the person is acting against the

wishes of the soul, it leads to inner turmoil and results in a life

that is wasted (soul has to take birth again

and *start from scratch* to fulfill its desires). If lagnamsa and

karakamsa are in mutual shashthashtakas

(6th/8th positions), this happens.

In the above example chart, this happens. So the native leads a

miserable and wasteful life (from the point of view of soul).

Analysis from Karakamsa:

Jupiter and Mercury in the 10th house of karma show a soul that

wants to be learned and scholarly

in traditional subjects and put the learning to the use of society.

Malefics Saturn and Mars in 9th show

a soul that wants knowledge of tantras, yantras and taamasik

rituals. Exalted Ketu in 8th from karakamsa

shows desire of the soul for occult knowledge.

Analysis from Lagnamsa:

Ketu in 1st shows a spiritual person or a revolutionary/thief. Here,

in this navamsa, Ketu is in Rakshasa

(demonic) group. So Ketu in lagnamsa shows a thief or a terrorist.

Exalted 6th lord shows strong sense of

enmity. Saturn and Mars in Manushya (human) group in 2nd from

lagnamsa show a person who cannot speak

fluently (may have some kind of stammering - Ketu in 2nd gives full

stammering). Mercury and Jupiter in

3rd show an author and a soft-spoken person.

As you can see, what his soul wants is different from what he is

doing. Without the soul being happy,

one cannot have complete success. Finally the life will go waste and

the soul will start from scratch in the next life.

The 1H represents Self/Present.

The 5H represents Children/Future.

The 9H represents Father/Past.

Quadrants to these houses provide sustainance.

So,

The present is seen from the Kendra (1,4,7,10 houses) that are

overlorded by Brahma.

The past is seen from the Apoklimas (3,6,9,12 houses) which are

lorded by Vishnu and

The future is seen from the Panapara (2,5,8,11 houses) which are

lorded by Shiva.

Hence houses 2, 5, 8 & 11 are important houses for Astrologers.

Association of either Ju and/or Me with these houses are one of the

sureshot indicators of Astrologers.

Further,

Jupiter is the planet of wisdom, discretion, judgment and traditional

knowledge.

Mercury is the planet of speech, solid knowledge, logic and

reasoning.

These two are the significators of astrology. The 2nd and 5th houses

are important (also 8th). The 2nd is the house of speech and overall

knowledge and awareness. The 5th is the house of intelligence,

intuition and perception. The 8th is the house of occult and also

research.

Some astrologers also have Jovian influence on 10th (karma/action).

Usually Jupiter/Mercury has a strong influence on 2nd/5th in rasi or

D-10 or D-24 for astrologers. D-10 (dasamsa) is the chart of

activities and achievements in society. D-24 is the chart of learning

and knowledge.

In addition, D-27 is the chart of strengths and weaknesses. The 2nd

in D-27 shows one's vaag bala

(power of speech) and 5th and 8th show intuition. Those with very

strong Mercurian/Jovian (esp Jovian)

influence on 2nd/5th/8th in D-27 have a knack for making correct

predictions.

Dasas have a role too. Astrologers go through phases of success and

failure. D-27 Narayana dasa can be helpful.

Do be carefull about rahu and ketu estimation..

One has to know many rules such as:

1. Examine Parashara view that rahu/ketu act good when in kendra/kona

in

yuti/dristi with kona/kendra lord respectively,

2. Rahu and Ketu own kumb and vrischik respectively.

3. Rahu is exalted in vrish for Ayu and for other matters in Mitun.

Some

opine that Rahu multrikon is mitun. In any case, rahu in mitun is

placed

in

high dignity. Rahu is in multrikon is virgo, while own sign is kumbh.

Ketu

multrikon is pisces.

4. When Rahu and Ketu are neecha(mitun-dhanu) in kendras, they give

material success

5. When they are in tuarus/scorpio in kendra, they natural karakatwas

are strong.

6. When they are in gemini/saggitarius in kendra they give spiritual

success

7. When ketu is in arudha lagna or 6th from Arudha lagna, the

spirituality is gained Guru and Rahu can produce fine Jyotisha, so be

careful. Guru and Rahu

are the only grahas that have natural 5th aspect so they have

tremendous power

to see the future(5th)

Knowledge of Jyotisha is not given by single grahas but overall

influence in the chart.

Many other yogas are highly welcome which give purity of character

such

as -guru mangala Yoga-Dharmakarmadhipathy Yoga-benefics in 3/6 from

arudha lagna

-Tapaswi Yogas-Saraswati yoga of chandra and budha, while chandra

should be placed in

the1/2/3 decanate depedning on movable, fixed or dual sign. and so on..

Best wishes,

PARTHA

Dear Partha,

OM!

Your explanation of Swamsa, Karakamsa, and Lagnamsa was very

educational. I have one question.

You said "If lagnamsa and karakamsa are in mutual shashthashtakas

(6th/8th positions), this happens (inner turmoil)."

So what does it mean when Lagnamsa and Karakamsa are identical? Does

it mean that there will be less conflict (peaceful nature)? Or does

it mean that over time one will be able to align the desire of the

soul and the person? It would be very helpful if you can elaborate on

this. I am a very amateur student of Jyotish who also happens to have

this in his chart!

I am going to save this because it is the best explanation I have

seen of the functions and relationship of Karakamsa, Lagnamsa, and

Swamsa.

OM!

dear sir

good question. yes lagnamsa and karakamsa together id definetelty

better than the shasta-ashtaka relation. yes what you siad is true

regarding the alignment, but there must be lot of slef introspection

before you finally understand the purpose of your existence. lagnamsa-

karkamsa together. always look at namvamsa for lagnamsa and karakamsa

as navamsa is the chart of dharma.

> > In navamsa, lagna is in Sg. So Sg becomes lagnamsa. AK in this

> > So swamsa refers the position of either

> >

> > As you can see, what his soul wants is different from what he is
