Few weeks back one of the member wanted to have the photo of “ MATANGI “ .

Since on the subject thought of posting a mail on Matangi.

Matangi is one of the Great goddess of Dasha Maha Vidya and means “ The Graceful

“. She is the cosmic power that makes a householder’s life comfortable by

granting the four principle objects of a householder VIZ -- Dharma, Artha, Kama

and Moksha. In addition she grants the ability of expression of Divine Speech to

her upasakas.

She is full of divine excitement and has a graceful gait like that of an

Elephant from whose temples flows the juice of excitement while in excitement.

As the function of an elephant is to guard the quarters the mother Matangi

protects the righteous from all kinds of Evils.

( Also refer to what Jatayu - the King of birds said to Lord Rama – “ O jewel

among Men, the elephants are the progeny of Matangi )

The devotees of Matangi is known to be blessed with Her grace of proficiency in

poetry, Music, Dancing and other fine arts—thus they become highly learned in

their chosen field.

The Brahma Yamala Tantra describes the Meditation Shloka for Matangi. In this

Tantra it says, that the Devi was born to a Muni named – Matanga , as a result

of his intense penance , when Devi was pleased and granted a boon to be born to

him. Hence she is known as Matanga kula nandini.

The Brahan Nila Tantra and Prantosahni Tantra says the Shakthi Peeta of Matangi

is located in Phalgu – opposite to the shrine of Bodhgaya in the Punya bhumi of

Bihar.

Without HER grace one cannot be successful in Lalitha Upasana, The Sri Vidya

Navavarana puja has nine or ten Namavali on this great Goddess.

Miracles are very common to the devotees of Matangi temple at Madurai (

Meenakshi Temple ). To quote two of the episodes, which I read in a book –

A rich businessman was so much, devoted to Matangi that his supper consisted of

only the prasad of Meenakshi after having Her daily darshan. Pre occupied with

the business one day he had to miss his usual lunch and was further burdened to

travel to a nearby city in the evening due to the exigencies of business. While

traveling, thinking that he had missed the darshan and holy prasad of Matangi

apart from lunch he fell asleep in the car.

Few minutes later he dreamt that a girl of 7 yrs old woke him up to feed the

Milk in the Silver Uddharani ( spoon used to give prasad ), shocked by this

dream he woke up suddenly to note another Wonder -- A silver spoon placed on

the seat of the car with some milk in it. After returning to Maduarai , the

first thing he did was to rush to the temple to narrate this strange incident

to the Chief Priest of the temple -- only to hear back from the priest -- that

this particular spoon belonged to the temple and went missing before few days

and the priest thought that it was stolen. This the grace of Matangi.

Another episode -- was to a British collector during the British rule in the

nineteenth century. This collector was woken up on a thundering rainy day by a

girl of 9 yrs who summoned him to come out of the house immediately. Heeding to

her request when he came out , he suddenly turned back to hear a thunder bolt

hitting his villa and the entire villa collapsing right in front of his eyes.

Immediately he looked back to thank this little girl when NO BODY WAS FOUND on

the precincts. This has been recorded in the British history.

I thank the Ambaal devotee for turning my thoughts on Raja Shyamala – the great

Matangi.

There is a verse in Devi-Gita, which is part of Devi Bhagavata

saying that, even among those texts which propound Vamachara, there

are certain portions which are in line with shruti-smRti-puraaNa-s,

and that, those portions are acceptable.

31-37. In those Tantra S'âstras, there are some passages in

conformity with the Vedas and there are other passages contradictory

to the Vedas. If the Vaidik persons resort to passages in conformity

with the Veda, then there cannot arise any fault in them.

I am wondering if adhering to above will be alright, as long as

anything related to vamachara is not posted.
