I find it hard to believe that such drastic surgery is the only viable
alternative. I've heard there are SEVERAL ways to either dissolve or push
out gallstones (though I don't know what they are).

I doubt anything about his life will be normal after such trauma.
----------------------------

I have had such an operation few months ago. They took away the stones and
the galbladder. It is really not such a big operation, I recovered very
quickly.

Afterwards I didn't have to go on diet the doctor said, everything stayed
the same.
My Gurumaharaja told me to be carefull with fat though, he said to be very
very careful with that!

But I can tell you that my life is still normal and that it is not at all a
big trauma for me!

Now that everything is removed I feel better actually.

Oh and I had to stay in hospital for 3 days, and my health securety payed
everything.

Hope this helps.

Hare Krishna,

I concur, my wife also does the treatment. Eat no fat or milk
products that day. Eat breakfast and lunch no latter than 2 o' clock.
For the rest of the day you can't eat , but you still drink water. At
6 o'clock take a cup of apple juice with 1 tablespoon of Epsom salts
- repeat this at 8 o' clock. At 10.00 o' clock you take half a cup
each of lemon juice and olive oil (either mixed or separate, I
usually take the olive oil first then drink down the lemon after).
The next day on waking you take another cup of apple juice with 1
tablespoon Epsom salts. Eat lightly on this day maybe starting off
with fruit. You need the toilet a few times and the stones are passed out.

Important - when you take the olive oil and lemon juice you have to
lay down straight away, try and stay on your back at least 20 mins
then go to sleep as usual.

I hope you are wrong. :-) To get my liver transplant they had to remove the
gall bladder just to get to the liver. Same with my son who donated 65% of
his to me.

I have been told by medical professionals that the gall bladder is not
essential for normal functioning. Often, after removal of a gall bladder,
there are digestive problems for a month or two. Mine has cleared up after a
month, and the problems may have had other basis.

I have had a devotee with professional training in therapy say that a gall
bladder is most necessary for animal fats and devotees wouldn't be as
affected. Glutting on ghee may not be the best possible diet, I suspect, but
"one should not become attached to opulent prasadam" anyway.

I don't know the exact protocol for this alternative method, and seem to
recollect a method that used all the abovementioned elements, but over a
longer period of time. I know some people that this has worked for. So worth
the attempt, IMHO.

But if it failed, I won't be too concerned about having it removed as long
as you don't eat meat.
