The Science of Tejas, Pran & Ojas- 2

The 3 elements of Tejas, Pran & Ojas should be balanced in our body.

Most people practice Pranayam, but dont know that Pran is useless

without Ojas. Ojas is sort of a container that holds Pran & Tejas.

 

People who do Pranayam, but dont develop Ojas(which is developed

mainly by Bhakti) dont get strong results, as there is no Ojas to

absorb the extra Pran they create. Ojas is wasted by sex, which was

why moderation in sex is advised.

 

On the other hand, merely avoiding sex, or doing just Bhakti is also

useless, as extra Ojas is collected, but without Pran to store in it,

is is wasted.

 

Tejas is collected by Gyan Yoga, or realising that conciousness is

everything, & the world has no existence outside of Pure Spirit.

Again, without Ojas, this is useless.

 

This gives a good technical reason why Bhakti Yoga, Gyan Yoga or

Hatha/Raja Yoga by themselves are useless. Unless a balance between

the 3 is made, Sadhna will not give full results.

 

Tejas is the power of Kundalni, located at the bottom of spine. It is

worshipped as fiery Gods like Durga, Tripur Bhairavi, &

Skand(Murugan), who is the son of Fire & kills the demon of ego with

his spear of Yogic tapasya.

 

Pran is located at the heart. It is worshipped as Kali, Indra, Shiva

as Rudra, Hanuman. All these Gods are terrifying, uncontrollable &

fast like the storm(like Kali can give instant enlightenment, or

instant death). This is also the quality of Pran, as it is fast &

violent, & cant normally by controlled(Hanuman was only controlled by

his Bhakti for Ram).

 

Ojas is situated at the of head in Sahasra Chakra. It is worshipped as

Krishna, Shiv in his kind form, Tripur Sundari, Laksmi(in her higher

form). Meera Bai was a classic example of power of Ojas- she was

always intoxicated with Gods love.

I personally do not practise pranayama nor teach pranayam but with

the advent of Ramdev's teaching of pranayama I am being forced by

few of my students to teach them pranayama. I give them example of

two of my acquataince who have practised pranayama on their own and

one had by-pass surgery and another had increase in their BP. Both

are ladies.

For practise of pranayama which is the fourth step in astanga yoga

many bypass yama, niyama, asanas and directly jump to pranayama.

Prana needs a vehicle to travel in the body and that vehicle is

blood so if the volume of blood is low and if you practise pranayama

you can acquire brochial asthma or madness or both but nobody cares

and one even accused me of being biased to North Indians and Ramdev

in particular. Further for practising pranayama you also need

Satwik aahar and seeing everywhere the people are interested only

in eating unhealthy but tasty food stand no chance to regain any

health. My cry (explanation) to this is in wilderness. I resign with

the thought IT IS THEIR KARMA because no amount of convincing can

work as tv has influenced their psyche so much that they cannot

see beyond it.

Sudhakarji, it is true Pranayam can be dangerous if practiced

forcefully. However, not all Pranayam are dangerous. Mainly the ones

that involve holding breath are, & shouldnt be done without Guru.

 

A very safe Pranayam(that every Sadhak should do) is to close left

nostril, breath in through right(counting 1Om, 2Om, 3 Om- to whatever

count one can do confortably), then closing right nostril & breathing

out through left. After this breath should be taken in through left

nostril & exhaled through right. This is 1 set. At least 11 should be

done. The counting of Om mantras can be any number that one is

comfortable with(4 is ok for most people). This number should be

slowly increased. This Pranayam, called Nadi Shodhan, balanced all the

energies of the body,.

 

While some Pranayams are dangerous, yet it is so powerful that you can

achieve results in months that would take years with Bhakti/Gyan/Karma

Yoga. Thats why every real Guru will always advise you to do Pranayam

as well.

 

Yama/Niyama are important for Raj Yoga(which works mainly on the

mind), but not so important for Hatha Yoga, which works with

body/Pran. This is because Tantric like Gorakhnath, who created Hatha

Yoga, knew that in Kaliyug would never be pure enough to practice pure

Raj Yoga, so having too strict rules would mean no one would ever

practice Yoga.

 

In Hatha Yoga, Yam/Niyams are only for advanced Sadhaks who are taught

powerful(usually secret) techniques. However, Hatha Yoga has its own

rules- it requires body to be kept in perfect shape through regular

Yoga, a diet that is correct from Ayurvedic point of view, proper

breathing techniques etc. All this is a vast topic.

 

Pranayam is a very powerful technique- it can be used to lower BP,

raise BP, lower/raise body temperature, it is so powerful that you can

get Samadhi with just Pranayam & nothing else. Thats why I personally

think Pranayam should be an important part of every Sadhna.
