Cleopatra's Beauty Secrets

Cleopatra, Beauty of the Nile, was a clever woman. She was an accomplished botanical chemist Cleopatra who lived in the century preceding the Christian Era, was exceptionally versed in the Art of Natural Cosmetics. The powders and ointments she developed were somewhat crude, by today's standards, but her formulas were an effective aid that perpetuated the longevity of her beautiful radiance that she was so famous for. Her fragrance potions contained some of the most exotic flower essences brought to her from the distance reaches of foreign Lands.

The Egyptians used every resource for herb collecting activities, including military and commercial expeditions. In fact the most important part of the "booty" taken by military invasions was the exotic plants of that particular region.

So with a world of herbs at her command she developed some of the most important discoveries in the secret world of beauty. Cleopatra used oil of Quince, avocado, apricot, almonds, sesame & wheatgerm oils. She also effectively used lecithin, lanolin, honey and natural menthol. With these ingredients she created a myriad of secret blends.

Anti wrinkle lotion:

1/2 oz Glycerine

1/2 oz Rose Water

1/2 oz Witch Hazel

mix together with 3 lbs Honey (this was one of her most famous lotions.

Another anti wrinkle lotion contained, tincture of

Benzoin, glycerine & honey, add a few drops of

Cologne and you have Cleo's smooth skin lotion

Fresh Papaya Facial~

Fresh papaya mashed applied to the face for 10 minutes, while you rest with feet higher than your head. Wash with warm water and then splash with cold water.

Papaya contains enzymes which will remove the dead outer layers of skin leaving your face velvety smooth.

Warm olive oil massaged into the forehead was said to over come wrinkles. Also Barley water with a few drops of oil of balm of Gilead.

Both glycerine and honey are the oldest moisturizers known. Benzoin is a fragrant resin from Sumatra. It has amazing qualitites powdered Benzoin mixed with fat will keep it from turning rancid.

Cleopatra ate her way to Beauty

Cleopatra found that a sensible diet can and does wonder for the skin. A diet high in vitamins and minerals will give you color and texture that cannot be derived from cosmetics.

She ate "PULSE". Eating Pulse for 10 days and drinking lots of water was the secret. "Pulse" is any edible seed or grain or the plant yielding the seeds. Without essential nutrients skin takes on a muddy and dull looking appearance.

All leafy green veggies that includes herbal teas are excellent sources. Dandelions are natures best, a virtual cavern of vitamin A. A deficiency of A leaves a rough scaly skin. Greens also include Riboflavin, which lack of causes large pores and blackhead formations. Dandelions are also rich in vitamin C which is needed to help carry oxygen to skin cells.

Insufficient protein allows line and wrinkles to appear.

Salt dries the skin and can lead to wrinkles.

Elimination of white sugar in the diet lessens the appearance of lines on the face. Starches and sugars are acid forming and are therefore aging.

Excessive fats, starches and pastries rob skin vitality. Two weeks of Alfalfa tea ~ you will see amazing results.

Carrots eaten raw or juiced will give a glow to cheeks, no more rouge, yippee

Fresh elder flowers steeped overnight in distilled water is used to bathe freckles, morning and evening. A mixture of mashed chickweed and water applied to the face also helps dispel freckles.

The protective acid balance of the skin is eliminated by alkaline soaps, which change the PH balance. Normal PH4 (skin is 4 - 6). After using soap ph of skin rises to 7, one minute after washing with soap. A rinse of cider vinegar will return the skin to normal ph. Soap made from balsam make a soft creamy lather.

Food to brighten and make eyes sparkle are, blueberry, tomato, avocado, eggplant and sunflower seeds.

So you see you must feed your skin to make it one with beauty. Seems to me Cleopatra knew thousands of years ago how to employ the fountain of youth.
