Hi Gea,

I've never heard of that. I've ALWAYS heard that as soon as possible

after coming in contact with poison ivy all exposed skin areas should be

washed thoroughly with soap and water to wash off the plant's sap/oils

which are what cause the rash (all clothes and anything else that came

in contact with it should be washed too!)

And I looked it up really quickly online and that seems to be the

general consensus ...

On Garden Island we where told to alwayshave a bar of Fels Naphta soap.

To be used liberally all over our clothing etc , when we felt we had

been exposed to Poison Ivy and than to jump into Lake Michigan..:)

I think reg. soap could spread PI, too, but to use soap with jewelweed

in it, would cut the oils that give us the rash from PI.

Thank-you Chris and all

Interesting, luckily we don't get it- guess they tortured my

sister for nothing, they even had a special poison ivy outfit she

would wear when she got it, - head to toe calamine lotion and none

of us would go near her:)

I have heard that if you rinse off within 30 mins of contact you

reduce chances of getting it, but with my sister if she looks at it

she gets it bad, now she uses pure bleach- eeek!

Just a interesting side note- my Dr. told me the same thing when the

kids got chicken pox, sponge baths only.

Thanks
