pcos yoga postures
Hi there,
How funny that my friend with PCOS is also named ³Ritu²! Lovely
serendipity.
I spoke to her this weekend about the diet. She says it is basically a diet
for Insulin Resistance which works since there is an insulin component in
PCOS, often leading to obesity and diabetes. The diet eliminates all grains
and sugar completely. You can eat fruit but not bananas. Vegetables, but
not potatoes. If you eat meat then you are all set. If you are a
vegetarian, then the mantra is to ³trade your grains for greens². She felt
much better after starting the diet and had a regular cycle again.
According to recent research, diet can be more effective for treating subtle
insulin related imbalances than currently prescribed medications.
Of course, I am not a doctor and donıt want to lead anyone down a dangerous
path. Please be careful and do a lot of research. The more you know and
understand, the better. That is what I think, anyway.
There are also cleansing herbs that an herbal doctor gave her, but she
doesnıt know what is in them. She never really took them anyway.
If you have any specific questions, let me know and I can relay them to her.
In an article in the Yoga Journal, it said:
³Geeta Iyengar, daughter of B.K.S. Iyengar and a specialist herself on
women's health, recommends yoga to jump start a cycle or to get our periods
back on track. She particularly likes inversions to increase blood
circulation and balance the endocrine system, backbends to tone the liver,
and twists to massage the internal organs.²
Geeta might be a person to contact for specific questions about PCOS.
Hope this helps.
Namaste!
Marji
