Hey Harsha,

I'm not sure what you mean by Front Page extensions, but my understanding of
html is that even with these wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) editors,
people can still go in and effect pages using regular html programming. The
wysiwyg programs have to conform to basic webspeak: html, dhtml, javascript,
etc.

Perhaps it looks like that to you on your computer, because when you use
Front Page, the program puts all the files in a folder within the FP program
folders. But someone going to yr site and downloading a page to work on,
wouldn't have that same problem. HTML is HTML, and Front Page can't control
that. Once it's on the web, it's just HTML. I don't remember FP being an
exclusive program. But all yr pages should end in the file extension ".htm"
or ".html", is this not the case? And if this is the case, then anyone can go
in and futz with the page, add other pages, etc. I could be mistaken, but
this is my current understanding.

However, if someone else goes into the site and makes changes to a page or
adds new pages (in which case they'd have to change one or more of the site's
pages to link to the new page), these changes/and or new pages will not show
up in your website's folder on your own hard-drive (tho you could see them
when you go to the website when your online and using a browser). You have to
then physically get into your ftp program and download the changed/new files
into your website folder on your hard drive in order to have an updated
version of the site in your computer's folder offline.

Front Page allows you to work with an external html editor (I think, I know
DW does). Actually, one good thing to do is to make yr page in Front Page,
then copy the code into an external editor, like Homesite, because you have
more control over code in a pure HTML editor.

Another good website is www.webmonkey.com. You can go there, plug html into
their search box and you'll see some great html tutorials -- FREE. It's a
really good idea to become html awakened (it's just tedious, not difficult).
Webmonkey have good tutorials that baby-step you through the code.

Hi Harsha,

I've taught Front Page and Dreamweaver (and I much prefer DreamWeaver). I've
only taught up to a certain Level in Front, and I took it off my computer
cause I needed more space, but I might remember some of the stuff.

However, if you go to www.smartplanet.com, and click on computing and
technology, they teach Front Page online. Their course are cheap and good,
and you can go at yr own pace since it's online stuff. Hope this helps.

Thanks Barg. I have dreamweaver as well but as a beginner I am finding that
frontpage is easier to work with. The problem is that once you put frontpage
extensions on the site, you are then limited to frontpage. So then anyone
who wants to help me by doing ftp to the site from different locations (say
london or India) is limited to using frontpage as well. Am I right about
that? Hi tech guys, how do I get around that? input appreciated.

Love to all
Harsha
