Rajasic Puranas:

bramhanda, bramhakaivarta, maarkandeya, bhaviyat, vamana, braamha

Really doesn't matter which purana belongs to which of the three. It all depends on one's own quest for knowledge.

Such categoriizations of purana are merely diverting the attentiion from the truth. I think such diversions are essential.

Like porne carving outside of temples are meant to test the devotee's quest for being in spiritual union, these are similar diagressions of saatvika purana, rajasika or tamasika type of puranas.

When knowledge dawns, all such categorizations have to be unlearnt. Who says enliightenment can take multiple several life times. Post-enlightenment occupatiion of unlearning the process of diffferentiatedness could take longer. It's more humorous than the stages of pre-enlightenment.

I don't think when Vyasa categorized it, it means to insult the Puranas but to show which sort of people should learn and understand easily which sort of Purana.

Satvic quality means peace-loving, tolerate, calm etc - therefore, people who have such qualities should learn puranas which have similar qualities also. Same goes for other two qualities also.

People should accept that they are born in one of this three qualities and stop pretending they are something else (like Tamasic quality people pretending to be Satvic simply by holding back their anger at the World's imbalance).

Frankly speaking, I'm a Tamasic person - I get angry easily, got a lot of Asuric quality in me, eat meat (but control what I eat) and such. I'm not ashame of what I am, and I continued to study my own Scriptures and other religions.

I never knew that Shiva and Skanda purana are considered as Tamasic. Can you plz tell where do you get this information? Its pretty disturbing to hear that.

In Padma Purana it is catagorized.

It is globally accepted that Puranas which glorify Vishnu are Satvic, Brahma are Rajasic and Siva as Tamasic.

Just because some sect of people (particularly saivatees) dont except this truth, this fact cant be ignored.

Moreover, Lord Siva is given all due respect in Satvic Puranas, whereas Lord Vishnu is humiliated (even gets killed) in Tamasic Puranas. That itself shows who insulting whom ? So Puranas are rightly catagorized.

No jivatma (soul) is born as fully Satvic or Rajasic or Tamasic. Every Jivatma is mixture of three qualities. By Studying Satvic Puranas , a jivatma's satvic qualities gets increased and appropriately other two qualities gets increased by studying other appropriate puranas. So if one wants to become satvic, he/she has to study "satvic puranas".

Sorry, I don't believe that studying a scripture and following it blindly will change your attitude from Tamasic to Rajasic. From Genetic Science point of view, that could be impossible also.

Take story of Parasurama Avatar ... His two brothers were born with Rajasic qualities but He alone born with Tamasic quality due to influence of His grandparents (His grandmother was a Kyastria princess).

No matter how much Parasurama meditate and prayed, He couldn't change His natural born nature and finally, what He do? He went and learn Art of War with Lord Shiva in order to control His nature.

I could say Hindus nowadays have wrong impression that a person can change his nature just by following some scriptures, locking away his emotions inside and pretending you are someone who you are not.

Which globe would you be referring to?

Only a small set of Vaishanavs accept such categorization of the Puranas, which cannot be called global in the common sense.

Try this. Just because some idiots do not accept the truth that islam is the ultimate religion does not mean that this fact can be ignored. Everyone should avoid religions founded by Khafirs, embrace islam and eat Beef Biriyani.

If you believe Vyasa wrote all the 18 Puranas (you should if you are from iskcon) then there is no meaning in such a categorization. Especially considering the fact that such discrimination is found only in a couple of places. The major Vaishnava Puranas like Vishnu and the Bhagavata have nothing on this.

It is said half knowledge is worse than no knowledge. This is true with many iskconites. Armed with partial information, they set out to convert other over to their way of thinking. Any criticism of such inadequate pieces of information is immediately condemned as "aparadha". If you do not want to make iskcon appear like a joke, then get serious and make sure you know what you are talking about.

Cheers

In Padma Purana puranas are categorized.
