Greetings everyone!

I came across the Govinda Nama on this website : http://guruvayoorappanvizag.20m.com/custom3.html

Could someone kindly translate the meanings into English, the phrases describing the various names and qualities of the Lord. It would be much appreciated. I do not know sanskrit, so I am unable to understand the meaning of many of the phrases (I can understand some of the more popular phrases in the text).

Also, who is the author of this text?

I have cut and pasted the relevant phrases at the end to facilitate an easier response.

I realise that it is a time consuming process, and I am not in a hurry, so please take your time.

Many, many thanks in advance.

I have looked at the site and find it interesting - it is Sri Vaisnava site - correct?

I thought this might be a good place to ask the following question.

What are the differences between Sri Vaisnava and Gaudiya Vaisnava? (Some are obvious - deities etc) What are the similarities between the two?

After looking at some of the names in the stotra, it is clear that this is a prayer to Tirupati Venkateswara.

For example, the name "hathi rama priya" refers to Sri Hatirama Baba, who was a great saint and devotee of Venkateswara. His jiva-samadhi is located on the sapta-giri hills.

These names also are specific to Venkateswara.

thirumala nivasa

seshadri nilaya

nithya kalyana

sthri pum roopa

padmavati priya

Tirupati Venkateswara is called most commonly by the name Govinda. While walking up the mountain, the pilgrims will call out in unison, "Govinda, Govinda, Gooo-vinda".

Yes, Jndas that is indeed a prayer to Lord Venkateswara. I have heard parts of it many times while waiting in the queue in Tirumala. I never heard the whole version though. Recently, I came across this on the internet.

I am not able to find this prayer on more than a couple of sites, which is a bot strange given the popularity of this in Tirumala. The author is not mentioned, nor are the scriptures from which this prayer is extracted.

Anyhow, I happen to like this prayer very much. Thanks to all for your translations.

I did not notice "new topic" button

till now. That font looks like devanagari,

and when i look the font, knowing devanagri,

my mind tries to read devanagari

and cannot read english.

To tell the truth, that font looks good,

but to me it is really hard to read.

Does any one have that experience?

Thanks any way, theist prabhu.
