They are showing video of airstrikes over Kabul right now! Dan Blather says CBS knew strikes started about a half hour ago but waited a while before reporting.

Bye-bye Taliban.

U.S. Launches Strikes in Afghanistan

By Amir Shah

Associated Press Writer

Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001; 1:17 p.m. EDT

KABUL, Afghanistan –– Thunderous explosions and the rattle of anti-aircraft fire were heard Sunday night in the Afghan capital Kabul, as the United States and Britain launched military retaliation in Afghanistan. Electricity was shut off throughout the city.

CNN meanwhile reported explosions in the northeast Afghan city of Jalalabad and the southern city of Kandahar, where the headquarters of the ruling Taliban militia is located. Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar lives in Kandahar.

The first explosions could be heard about 8:57 p.m. local time, or 12:27 p.m. EDT, when it is dark in Kabul. Five large explosions shook the city, followed by the sounds of anti-aircraft fire.

A Taliban official in Kabul contacted by telephone from Pakistan said "we are under attack. They bombed in the south of Kabul. Our guns are firing." The official, who gave his name only as Mudir, gave no further details.

The private, Islamabad-based Afghan Islamic Press agency quoted the Taliban as saying American planes had bombed areas near the Kabul airport in the northern part of the city.

The agency said there were no details of casualties and no reports of damage to the city itself. It added, however, that "huge smoke is rising near Kabul airport."

In Washington, President Bush said U.S. and British military action had begun in Afghanistan. He said forces are taking "targeted actions" against Taliban military capabilities and the al-Qaida network of alleged terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden.

The retaliation came a day after Bush warned the Taliban that time was running out for them to hand over bin Laden and his lieutenants or face the consequences. Bin Laden, a Saudi exile, is the main suspect in the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington.

"We are beginning another front in our war against terrorism so freedom can prevail over fear," Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer said.

Power went off throughout Kabul almost immediately after the first of five thunderous blasts, which appeared to have been in the southwest of the city. The southwestern part of Kabul includes the Darulaman Palace, an ancient royal residence, and the Balahisar Fort, an old Mogul style installation.

The firing tapered off for a few minutes but resumed after a jet aircraft could be heard passing over the city.

A curfew was in effect in the city, making it impossible to independently determine further details.

Where have all the Bhaktas gone? Long time passing

Where have all the Vaisnavs gone? Long time ago

Where have all the sAdhus gone? To Vaikuntha everyone

When will WE ever learn? When will WE ever learn?

Karma-phalam, vikarma-viphalam.

Bushwhacker is digging his own grave.

He'll never go to the front line himself.

He's too brave for that.

He'll watch it on TV with his feet propped up on a hassock.

"The Sun isn't Yellow it's Chicken."

Nah, he is the resident pathetic-puke-poet. He's got a good heart, he just doesn't reveal it.

Seems like with all the warnings those specifically targetted would be well away from our fire (just like Prabhupada's example of the leaders watching from a safe place), and then who are they really hurting? Just innocents? Not saying we shouldn't defend but I just wonder about these things....

They bombed command & control facilities and airports. Also the Taliban Party HQ in Jalalabad.

They will bomb training camps at night, and in the day they will drop food, medicine and supplies to the people.

Best thing that can happen to a country is losing a war with the U.S.A. Look at Japan and Germany! Went to Siddha's group tonight wearing my `Don't Mess With The U.S.` T-shirt. Not appropriate, sorry to say...maybe I should have gone to the pitiful half-hearted anti-war demo at the U.S. Consulate, just round the corner from where I live. Gollee, mighta made it on T.V.!

Though the Masters make the Rules,

For the Wisemen and the Fools.

They've got nothing Ma, to live up to.

Dear Hedley,

If any King or President doesn't physically join in the fight, he's not qualified to be leader.

Random may give his random though standardless account.

Nowadays Presidents surround themselves with disqualified advisors.

Their advisors are very qualified in one sense:

for sure they're speeding up KalkyavatAr appearance.

Who knows? At this rate He may arrive ahead of schedule!!

I live 1/2 way betwixt La Guardia & Kennedy airposts.

Floyd Bennett Field also nearby.

This black jet is not an uncommon sight.

Archaic, innefficient, outdated, but not unfamiliar.

Generally we chant Wed & Sat nights.

Thanksgiving Thursday may become an exception.
