Here is a blurb from the entertainment website www.aint-it-cool-news.com. It appears that DreamWorks (Stephen Spielberg's company, with such animated hits as The Prince of Egypt and Antz) is working on developing the Ramayan for theatrical release. As with such projects, the time span from idea to a fully-realized theatrical movie can be a long while.

Gaiman Animation Project

Another non-anime entry.According to a report by Newsarama Neil Gaiman(creator of the comic series Sandman, writer of the English script to Princess Mononoke, and the soon to be released American Gods etc) is writing a script for The Ramayana. According to the writer, in a "moment of madness", he agreed to adapt The Ramayana - the 8,000-page Indian epic poem - into an 80-minute animated film for Dreamworks. He reports he's currently on the third draft of the treatment.

The company needs to be careful what they are maiking. It needs to have every detail right, and make sure not to insult the Hindu community. Many feel stongly for the Ramayana so it would be important for the animation company to state which version they are representing and and to represent it with the utmost truth. Making sure that it is not justified in the modern western sense, but for the actions to be justified accroing to the Ramayana.
