dattvA vidyAuSadhaM bhaktAn, niravadyAn karoti yaH |

dRk pathaM bhajatu zrImAn, zrI tyAtmA sa hariH svayam ||

He who gives vidyA tonic to His devotees, making them disease-free,

may that Joyous One, Hari Himself, come within my vision's scope.

Practice sAdhana requires repetition because scripture itself repeats instructions.

This 4th adhyAya includes 4 pAdas, 78 sUtras (482-559).

4.1.12 AprAyaNAt tatrApi hi dRSTam |

till/from salvation, there even, because, is seen in Zruti

(Deity Worship should be done) till salvation & thereafter too.

Certainly it is so seen in Revelation.

4.1.13 tad adhigame uttara pUrvAghayor azleSa vinAzau tad avyapadezAt |

of him, knowledge being attained, of latter (what's being done), of former (what's stored), of both sins, non-clinging and destruction, that being declared

On obtaining that (vidyA), detachment from works done in present life & dissolution of works stored done in past life occurs.

This is so declared in UpaniSads.

4.1.14 - itarasya apy evam azleSaH pAte tu

of other, of good deeds also thus detached, after destruction, fall or death;

Same is true with other (good deeds); but, indeed.

stored-up good deeds are destroyed,

good deeds done in present life don't cling to doer.

Doer gets mukti upon reduction of his prArabdha-karmas.

4.1.15 anArabdha-kArye eva tu pUrve tad-avadheH

whose effects have not yet begun, only, but, with respect to former or stored good deeds, that, being time's duration

Knowledge destroys only immature Karmas of former lives whose effects have not yet begun.

Why? Because this a jnAnin's life limit.

A wiseman's longevity = time period over which his karmas which have already begun to produce their effects extend.

This is doubly, triply interesting in light of which bombs Bushover is dropping on Afghanistan's farmers, citizens.

All are supposedly non-nuclear.

However, one being used is able to remove oxygen from the immediate atmosphere, literally sucking lungs out of chests.

Bush is unadmittedly, directly targetting civilian populations which raises the burning question:

???How many Lord BrahmA lifetimes in sub-human, e.g. scorpion, snake, stoolworm births (if he never sins again) will it take to exhaust Bushwhacker's prarabdha karmas alone???

Same question for those who support or follow him: How many?

VedAnta-sUtra has these answers.

Unfortunately, our 'Present Presto President' is totally illiterate as well as being totally illegitimate.

Bushit was never against Abortion.

He's just plain Bushit.

Back to zAstra, Absolute Truth.

4.1.16 agnihotrAdi tu tat kAryAyaiva tad darzanAt

daily fire + other offerings, but indeed, in that (knowledge's) form, to getting fruit's effect, even, that, due to being seen

But regular routine fire (& other) sacrifice produce vidyA as their effect.

From realization, direct perception this is known.

In summary, Prarabdha-Karmas are only destroyed by one actually undergoing suffering for all evil + enjoying all good deeds' fruits he has performed.

Or as Bv PrabhupAd used to say:

"You may hide yourself from State Laws, but you can't hide from God's Laws."

No one gets away with anything, what to speak of wholesale murder.

Some say this is the only way they know to efficiently reduce world overpopulation.

Systematic Murder.

God's Law "Thou Shalt Not Kill" remains intact.

Some men have lost their way... Kaliyuga has that effect.

ataH - than this Zruti declaration declaring PrArabdha remaining active by Lord's Will, other than that, because, in some SAkhAs, of both good & evil commenced

For some nirapexa devotees (extremely ardent God-lovers), both good & evil Prarabdha non-clinging occurs (lotus leaf in water," iSikA reeds burning.")

Certainly, because some branches declare it so.

"Whatever he does with knowledge" intimates Prarabdha-karmas may go to another.

4.1.19 bhogena tvitare xapayitvA'tha sampadyate

by/with heavenly pleasures, but, other 2 (sthUla & suxma), giving up, then obtains/joins

Having renounced gross & subtle bodies, he joins in relishing Divine Bliss along with Lord.

mantrAd yasya parAbhUtAH, parAbhUtAdayograhAH |

nazyanti sva-lasat tRSNaH, sa kRSNaH zaraNaM mama ||

May that Supreme Lord ZrI KRSNa, His devotees’ Lover, be my refuge.

From His Sacred Name’s recitation, all sensual & vital obsessing elements are vanquished.

This pAda includes 21 sUtras.

4.2.1 vAN manasi darzanAC chabdAc ca

speech, in mind, from zAstra, from Vedik sound, and

Speech together with its function is merged in mind, for it is seen so & scripture declares so.

In elements, about that, Veda says

Individual soul with prANa merges into elements because there’s scriptural statement to that effect.

Actually, common (to knower & non-knower) is departure up to beginning of path.

And immortality is metaphorical sans having burned body connection.

that, till Brahman union acquired, repeated birth & death/mundane world,

state being named

That immortality (mentioned in Brhd AranykopaniSad 4.4.7) refers to saints’ sinlessness

because scripture teaches SaMsAra condition lasts till Brahman realization time.

subtle body, from authoritative knowledge or means, and, thus, it being observed

Yet subtle body persists, due to scriptural evidence &

body existence observed even on higher planes.

Hence, BRhad Ar Up text 4.4.7 should not be taken to teach destruction of physical body’s connection.

Instead it teaches truly good men enjoy eternal mental peace.

of that very (subtle body), verily, and, it being possible, HEAT

And to that very subtle body belongs warmth (perceived by touch) because it is reasonable

If it be said, he who knows does not leave body, due to prohibition, then we reply:

“It is not so. Prohibition refers to PrANas exiting embodied soul.

By way of identity, PrANas permanent atoms merge, for there is no separation, as stated by authoritative text.

4.2.17 tadoko'gra jvalanaM tat prakAzita dvAro vidyA sAmarthyAt taccheSa gaty anusmRti yogac ca hArdAnugRhItaH zatAdhikayA

of that (soul in which elements have entered), abode/heart, point lighting up/heart's upper portion becomes illumined, by Him (heart-dwelling Lord), shown, door/root from which 101st artery orginates, by power of its knowledge, remainder, pat stages, due to memory application, and, Heart-abiding Lord, being assisted by, by 101st artery

Then His Abode point lights up.

By door so illumined by Him, soul departs through 101st artery by virtue of wisdom power, by path memory application resulting from such wisdom, and by Lord in Heart's favor.

Wisemen follow sunrays whether dying day or night.

4.1.19 nizineti cen na saMbandhasya yAvad deha bhAvitvAt darzayati

at night, not, so, if, not, of relation, as long as, body exists, due to existence, scriptures show, also

If objected: "One dying at night cannot follow sunrays," we reply,

"Not True! Connection between rays & body persists so long body lasts.

Scripture too declares this.

When soul has reached Lightning, next (it's carried to Brahman)

effect, bAdariH holds, of this (effect)

As per sage bAdari, amAnava puruSa leads souls to effected Brahman;

for such Brahman alone can possibly be their goal.

And due to specification as regards Brahman showing Brahman) is goal.

That Mukti brand is given when man reaches BrahmA-world, for that is samIpya mukti form.

effected world, at end, of that, with ruler (4-faced BrahmA),

saha/with, ataH/from this, param/Highest (id est Brahman);

abhidhAnAt - due to scriptural declaration

When effected world & its president pass away, souls go from 4-faced BrahmA to Supreme, for scripture uses word Supreme.

And from smRti same mode is learned.

highest (indeed BrahmA), Jaimini holds, due to meaning's primariness

Sage Jaimini opines (non-human Person only leads souls who meditate on Supreme Brahman)

to Supreme, for word "Brahman" primarily means Supreme Brahman.

And Sage does NOT intentionally desire to reach effected Brahman (and not Highest, Lord Himself).

not, upon symbols, depend, leads,

so, VyAsadev holds, both ways,

and from defects, about that,

thought (he whose thought is about that)

according to Tat-kratuH maxim, too

Subtle being leads Supreme worshippers' souls sans any symbol.

This is BAdarAyaN's opinion for there is defect in both other views & because "Tat kratuH" maxim ("as is one's thoughts, so is his goal) requires it to be so.

4th pAda (final 21 sUtras)

akaitave bhaktisave'nurajyan, svamevayaH sevakamAt karoti |

tato'timodaM muditaH sa devaH, sadA cidAnanda tanur dhinotu ||

Let that God, Whose Body consists of Cognizant Bliss, always afford us contentment.

He is always pleased with His devotee's guideless/guileless love.

In return, He offers Himself as His devotee's servant.

Being thus satisfied by their devotion, He in turn satisfies them.

4.4.1 sampadyAvirbhAvaH svena-zabdAt

of person who's reached Brahman, manifestation,

by one's own, inferred from word

Phrase "accomplishing one's own form" means manifestation in one's own form.

Word svena (in its own) indicates that.

liberated one, due to promise

Mukta's condition is manifestation in its owm form.

It's mentioned in Chh Up (8.12.3)

In Chh Up (8.7.1) Prajapati BrahmA promised to teach "mukta" condition to Indradev.

Atman/soul is that Highest Light; due to context.

Freed soul exists in non-separated state from Lord, due to Scriptural text.

Brahman's gift, JaiminiH (holds),

by suggestion, reference etc.

According to Jaimini:

freed soul manifests with all attributes given by Brahman

due to references (as contained in other UpaniSad passages).

4.4.6 cititan matreNa tadAtmaka tvAdity auDolomiH

in Intelligence/Brahman, with solely that nature of intelligence, tad = that, being essential, so, AuDolomi thinks

Jivan-mukta, upon entering All-Intelligence, manifests merely as that (intelligence);

Due to (of statement that it is) essentially that alone, thus opines AuDolomi.

4.4.7 evam apy upanyAsAt pUrva bhAvAd avirodhaM bAdarAyaNaH

thus, even : though soul be mere intelligence, due to suggestion/reference: Prajapati's words' authority, pUrva = former's, due to statement's existence, avirodham = non-contradiction, BadarAyaNa (thinks)

Even (though soul) thus (pure intelligence) yet due to authority (of PrajApati's words), there's no contradiction in existence of former (8 qualities).

Jaimini (otherwise) holds that, because scriptures declare thus, ergo mukta has body, as passage declares multi-body possession option.

4.4.12 dvAdazAhavad ubhaya-vidhaM bAdarAyaNo'tiH

12, like days/just as 12 day sacrifice, of both kinds, BadarAyaNaH (thinks), for this very reason

For this reason, BAdarAyaNa holds muktas are of both types (bodiless/embodied), just as 12 day sacrifice (is both ahIna & sattra).

ahIna = entire, unimpaired, whole

sattra = session, house, asylum, hospital, fraud, deception, tank, pond
