Before we continue, could some one post whatever data is available on earthquakes, so we can see what it means that earthquakes have increased.

I have made a post related to this. I can post the actual no. of earthquakes per year also, but I am finding difficulty in making table here. I am trying.

Very good Avinash with the EQ info. Just eyeballing it the data doesn't seem to indicate much of a change in earthquake activity. Some devotees (Mahak & others) used to have some fun tracking earthquakes on these forums (check the test section I think).

As the table shows, it is wrong to say that the no. of earthquakes (of magnitude > 7) have been increasing over the last 50 years.

So far lesser magnitude earthquakes are concerned, it is possible that they have increased. But it is also possible that we observe more of them because of more no. of geophones. Anyway, it does not seem believable that Jesus was talking of such low magnitude earthquakes.

Excellent data Avinash. But Jesus does not say that there will be increase in major earth quakes. So we need to understand if there has been an increase in minor earth quakes. I heard from some knowledgeable people that it is possible to detect earth quakes that happened inthe past by studying the tectonic plates. Based on that one should see if there has been an increase.

there is an earthquake almost every day in california,all minor.

The part of the bible that talks about "the end days", talks about a time of great upheaval, wars ,fires, floods etc.

The description isn't necessarily an exact one, it's meant to give a general description of many cataclysmic events.

The fact of Israel being re-settled by Jews is the main reason for belief of the immanent arrival of Jesus.

The other signs are not as significant to Christains.

Where is the prediction that the state of Israel will be formed ? Jesus does talk about jews being scattered but not reassembling as far as I know. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Plate techtonics can be used but only for knowing about great earthquakes of the past and that too not very accurately.

Luke says that there will be great earthquake. Of course, we can say that the meaning of the word great here may not be exactly the same as it is currently defined in Geophysics. Earthquakes of magnitude 8 and above (in richter scale) are known as great earthquakes. But we can definitely say that the earthquakes that do not cause much trouble can not be considered as great earthquakes. I do not think that Luke was talking of earthquakes of magnitude 6 or lower.

I think you are right. Only if the earthquake has left a permenant rupture in the plate, we can guess about its mangitude. even then it is not going to be accurate. For example, the great earthquake of Turkey (I think it is 1192 CE..Avinash prabhu can confirm) was guesstimated as between 8.2 and 9.0 in magnitude. That is a huge difference when we note that Richter scale is logarithmic and 9.0 is almost 10 times as big as 8.2. But, it does tell you if earthquakes of magnitude beyond 8.0 occurred.

If you read Bible, you will find that many kinds of destructions have been mentioned before Jesus comes, earthquake being one of them. So, this means that Bible refers to destructive earthquakes. The magnitude of an earthquake does not indicate the level of destruction. The level of destruction is indicated by the intensity of an earthquake.

W should see if more destructions are hppening by earthquake now than in past. One more important point. It has been approximately 2000 years since Jesus left. So, we can not consider what happened in the last few decades; we have to consider what happened in the last 2000 years.

It is for the most part irrational sentimental frenzy; especially all this doom-is-near nonsense. But then, it is only fear that can affect these heartless souls; so perhaps all is as it should be.

This is a very good point. This means that if Bible is correct, then the second coming of Christ has already happened. Isn't it bad that some people consider only those things in a scripture that serves their purpose and ignore the rest?

Thank you for the nice note and your attempt to put my mind at ease.

Rather if your jokes were aimed at Lord Jesus Christ or those that falsely claim to represent Him is for you to know and is between you and the Supreme Lord.

We must be cautious and avoid thinking that offenses directed toward those who may not be specifically mentioned in our Holy Books will not but injurious to our growing creepers of bhakti.These distinctions are ours and not Krsna's.

But this incident has been instrumental in showing me something about myself.I sometimes dare to act as though I have some genuine feeling for Christ and Krsna.This false posture is surely more offensive then the occasional joke offered in bad taste.

The mind is really amazing.For one who knows that he should surrender to Krsna's devotee but who doesn't, so many pretntious states of consciousness will surely arise.This is my situation.

I want there to be a very clear distinction drawn between these soul denying, cow and animal slaughtering materialists who call themselves Christians and the person of Christ.

We who are budding transcendentalists must be able to discriminate between thr two.

Jesus Christ belongs to pure Vaisnavas everywhere.Just as does Narada Muni, Prahlada Maharaja, Prthu Maharaja and all the innumerable incarnations that flow onto this dessert like bank of material nature, bringing with Them the living waters of Life.

On the second coming of Christ, I don't know,but the best position would be to be living in His presence here and now.

Christ and Krsna, the perfect union.
