Im not sure mr das. But Time magazine's dotcom would let us know if we can. If I hear anything for sure I'll let you know. For those who don't go to the mela, I posted this url there and Jahnava (not Nitai--the other moderator) showed how you could get the whole mantra on, like this:

HareKrsna HareKrsna KrsnaKrsna HareHare

HareRama HareRama RamaRama HareHare

i figure we could go back for seconds thirds, etc and just inundate it with harinam.

I keep thinking I am going to go to sleep but then something else catches my eye. I am glad yours is the last post I read before head hits bed. They are nectar, and I am going to compose some tomorrow. Of course they will take these. They are letting people share what is from their own hearts and perspectives. That site, Time, also has a place where you can share your thoughts, and read others too. I haven't done so yet, but thoughts and feelings are wideranging there, and some are very frank and uncomfortable too. So I can see that this site is not about gleaning out some religion or other.

Good day to you, good soul,

Jayaradhe

Re: Sankirtan

On Wednesday evening, a group of devotees led by Brahmabhuta

Prabhu sat down in Union Square Park in New York City and prepared to

chant the Holy Name of Lord Sri Krishna to relieve thousands of

grieving citizens of their painful loss and lamentation. The park was

filled with thousands and thousands of candles lit in memory of those

missing at ground zero of the World Trade Center disaster. As we

began to chant, more and more people came around out of curiosity,

attracted by the transcendental sound vibration of the Holy Name.

Our audience appeared to us to be struck with wonder. They

looked stunned, many of them at the point of tears, seeing devotees

chanting so prayerfully and with such genuine devotion for the

Supreme Lord. People were trying to chant along with us and a few

came and sat down beside us for an hour or so which inspired the

devotees to chant with even more enthusiasm.

Friends of the devotees were helping to distribute halava

prepared by Mother Vani and bakery-made doughnuts donated by the

Doughnut Plant. Nearly 400 copies of the Peace Formula were handed

out and many books were sold to onlookers who could be seen

discussing the philosophy of Krishna consciousness amongst

themselves. TV camera crews were there from all over the world to

film the candlelight memorial and our bhajana group quickly became

the focus of their attention. Individuals from many different

countries also made videos of the chanting party and then spoke with

devotees about how wonderful they thought it was that we had come

there to cheer people up. Actually our purpose was to please Krishna,

and when Krishna is pleased, the whole world becomes joyful.

Tonight we will be returning to the same spot with harmonium,

mrdanga and karatals instead of going to Times Square. It is a

different mood, and we feel that the impression we can make at Union

Square is more profound. On Wednesday evening, we could feel that

people's lives were being transformed by the influence of the Holy

Name. All of us were thus convinced that chanting congregationally

for the benefit of the innocent public is the highest welfare work

and the prime benediction for mankind.

Your servant, Locanananda dasa

I just had a hopeful thought I would like to share. All of us are suffering due to the modes of material nature, which we are simply compelled to act under. What hit me in a flash was how lucky I really am to experience this world as it really is; as Srila Prabhupada has said repeatedly, Krsna takes away from those He loves the most. Not that Krsna shows favoritism, but it IS a special favor, very special mercy, when Krsna does not allow His devotees to be very comfortable here. It appears ironic that those who worship Lord Shiva can prosper, while those who worship Visnu, the Lord of all Opulences, one can have nothing. That is because we are striving to go BEYOND this world. So Krsna, fulfilling those desires, orchestrates our movements to most effectively faciliate our distaste for, and detachment from, this world so we can head along, unimpeded, the progressive march back to Godhead.

Anyway, we've all heard this all before, and we all know it is true, but I thought I might be able to capture in words the fresh moment of realizing it. I'm not sure if I conveyed it so profoundly as I feel it. But right now, I am feeling ever so grateful!

May Lord Balarama lend us His strength, to endure this hellish material existence, and to surrender to the will of Lord Krsna.

aspiring to be your servant,

Jayaradhe

Dearest prabhus,

Pictures of the devotees chanting at the candlelight vigil at Union Square, New York, can be seen at:

http://preaching.krishna.org/Articles/2001/09/018.html

Besides the article which accompanies these pictures, some of which I have posted above, there is also another blissful article describing another group of devotees chanting at Tomkins Square Park.

aspiring to be of service,
