Guest guest Report post Posted December 4, 2003 Greetings everyone, I have a question, and i apologize in advance if it is very basic. In one of the other threads, someone had mentioned 'Chant the Hare Krishna Prayer 16 times a day', or words to that effect. Could someone tell me which Prayer this is, and the significance of the number 16. Also recommendations about any other prayer to Sri Krishna / Sri Venkateswara, and the number of times it must be chanted daily would be very helpful. Thanks in advance. Best Regards, -PS
madanvrao 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2003 Hare Krishna, The mantra is: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare Meaning: Hare: O' energies of the Lord, Krishna: The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Rama: The transcendental pleasure and the plenary expansion of Krishna It only means that O' Lord, please give me the strength & Intelligence to serve you & nothing else I want from you. Why 16 Rounds? Because Lord Chaitanya has said so. 16 rounds is like a dosage for material detachment. In detachment only you can be genuinely happy for detachment means non-possessiveness. It is actually the process of Bhakti Yoga. Hare Krishna
Guest guest Report post Posted December 7, 2003 The spiritual master adjusts such things according to time and circumstances. In India many devotees chant 64 rounds in the past or 32 (some even more). When Prabhupada came to america, he first suggested 64, then 32, then when everone said even that is difficult, he said ok, minimum of 16 rounds a day for his initiated diciples. One round is the chanting of the hare krishna mantra on each bead of a set of beads which has 108 beads on it. Lord Chaitanya only said we should always chant the names of God, there are no hard and fast rules.
Guest guest Report post Posted December 7, 2003 previous title should be "just chant as much as you can", not just chat as much as you can /images/graemlins/smile.gif
