animesh 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2001 I was reading Bhagwat Puran. In that, it is mentioned that Lord will be born as Buddha in Kali yuga. His mother's name will be Ajana. viji_53 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2001 In Srimad Bhagavat there is no mention of Bhudddha. Most of the Puranas were added in the name of Vyasa. Only Vedas, Upanishads are given by God. Ramayana is given by Adhikavi Valmiki & BG by Krishna through Vyasa. Srimad Bhagavat is given by Suka Maharishi to Parikshit. Since Ramayana in Sanskrit could not reach all the people, Tulasidas came with his Raamcharitmaanas in Hindi & Kamban in Tamil. Only Vishnu Purana which is again repeatation of Bhagavat must be given by Vyasa. All the other Puranas are added afterwards.Budha was a noble person & not a God. animesh 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2001 Not considering somebody as an incarnation of God can not be considered as an insult to that person. There have been many great people on Earth, but not all of them are considered as incarnations. I have talked to some buddhists (esp. the followers of Theravada philosphy) who just do not like the idea of considering Gautam Buddha as an incarnation. But, it does not mean that they do not respect him. They respect him a lot. They consider him as an ideal. They consider him as a human being who, by his struggles, could get enlightenment. The practise of placing the Emperor within the Forbidden City and not allowing him to leave is not accordance to Buddhism but accordance to Taoism. Taoism believed that Heaven and Earth is connected to one another. They believe that Heaven is controlled by a Jade Emperor (1st Emperor of China) while Earth (basically China) is controlled by the Emperor. By being inside the City and doing all the rituals and conducts properly, the Emperor was ensuring that his kingdom was blessed by the Ruler of the Heaven. maadhav 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 any religion or ideology that says "ahimsa is the absolute principle" to live by, is not perfect. current dalai lama is not able to stop himsa in his ouwn counry. he could not stop destruction of bamian buddha statue, nor could you. no buddhist of current time is able to make muslims non violent. buddhist coutnries also are producing or procuring weapons for war and keep armies. this shows that buddhsism is not perfect. still it is better than an atheist without following any any ideology.
