Guest guest Report post Posted November 17, 2005 Hare Krishna all, Has anyone had experience travelling by train from Puri to New Delhi? I know it's long (roughly 33 hours)but don't have any more info on it. What is the difference in 1st & 2nd class carriages and what are the prices like? I've tried searching on on the net but couldn't find mmuch. Thanks!
harshad 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 I can only tell the difference between 1st Class and 2nd Class carriages. 1st class will be air conditioned, 2nd class not AC 1st class complete solitude to do your own things 2nd class people peeping from all sides 1st class no hawkers/beggars disturbing you 2nd class full of beggars/hawkers 1st class less risk of theft 2nd class slightly more risk 1st class comfortable 2nd class people sometimes fight for comfortable seats. Official site of indian railways (where you can get info about train schedule) is : http://www.indianrail.gov.in/ Hope this helps... Yashoda 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 Yes, 1st class is 1st class, for sure. But I always travel 2nd class because I have a chance to meet interesting people, distribute books, preach and learn more about the country and it's life. Of course, it takes also alot of body discomfort but at the end of the day - how can I preach to local people if I am stuch in 2x2 "prison" for so many hours??? Jahnava Nitai Das 2 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 Technically the classes are divided as follows (remember these names, as "first class" won't be used when booking the tickets): 2 Tier AC - Air Conditioned with four people per compartment 3 Tier AC - Air Conditioned with six people per compartment 2nd Class Sleeper - General class with 6 people per compartment, non AC Unreserved - No rules, Many people per compartment.
