Mahabharata sauptika parva12/30:

 

immediately after getting married both Rukmini and krishna went to Badrikashrama(himalaya) and observed strict celibacy(brahmacharya) for 12 years n led a pious life there. They used to sleep on ground, ate only roots, tubers and fruits . Thereafter Rukhmini gave birth to the first child named Pradhumna.

 

 

Why did Sri Krishna & his wife adhere to Brahmcharya for 12 years? Did our scriptures command him to do so?

 

What is the benefit of observing Brahmcharya?

a man who had so much control over himself that he could observed brahmacharya for 12 years while living together with his wife..its such a pity that such a great man is denigrating continuously.just bcoz people dont the real shri krishna who is yogiraj.
