Well, no doubt that surya namaskar is quite a healthy work out for keeping our body healthy and fit. I don't think so it is practiced for losing weight. It is just performed for getting our body into a perfect shape.

I do it every alternate days in a week. I usually perform 10 repetition.

Surya namaskar combined with a good diet will do the trick. I would start with 20 surya namaskars in the first week and increase with 20 per week (or 10, based on your physical ability). Exercise and diet are both necessary in fat reduction. It's mostly 80% diet and 20% exercise. Also try some pranayama's. Pranayama lead to mental stability and better meditation, which will make it easier to listen to your body and eat proper amounts. 

 

Reducing 1 kg in one day, will mostly be water loss and not fat loss, what you in fact want to achieve. So try the above and please yourself and your body with the results. And remember patience and faith are very important in fat reduction!
