So the boyfriend doesn't like chickpeas... but likes all other beans - a lot! Rather than my just looking around the internet for possible substitutes I thought I would ask you all if there is anyone else out there that doesn't like them (or family) and if they substitute them with any other bean in particular on a regular basis. I'm not fond of them in some things - much prefer them in cooked dises rather than cold but i don;t exclude them from things and would really like to keep some of my recipies that I like. When cooking for just the two of us it is a bit much to make two seperate dishes especially when one of my favorites is a crockpot dish that has them in it.

I am definitly looking for help from anyone on this one.

Hope everyone is doing well.

I think beans are fairly interchangeable..... just switch out the chickpeas for something you know he likes (maybe a white bean?).... keep trying til you find a good sub. Chickpeas are funny, they are a bit firm even when not eaten in a cold dish and i know a couple people that just don't like them! Good luck!

Well, kinda depends on the recipe, doesn't it ;=) For some foods, eg

Indian or Sri Lankan, maybe chickpeas are needed for authenticity. Also

for many Mediterranean dishes. But if you are not too worried about

that, you can probably substitute something the bf does like. If a

delicate flavour is needed, however, best to stay away from my

favourite: black/turtle beans with their wonderful strong and smoky

favourite. Navy beans? Pinto beans? Red kidney beans? It depends on the

flavouring and your bf's reason for not liking chickpeas, right?

Good luck. Let us know how it all turns out!

Best,

Pat ;=)
