Can anyone tell me what the significance of freckles in TCM

diagnosis is?

Since they are hereditary, they seem to be saying something

about the constitution...a tendency to blood stagnation, or blood

deficiency, perhaps?

Thanks!

They are hereditary with kind of skin, and increase with exposure

to sun, to some internal and external chemical states, and with

age. Afflicted southern Chinese commonly adopt a more northern

(less spicy/less flavorings) diet to diminish them.

Hi Lisa,

In TCM excess of freckles means Kidney jing deficiency due to sexual activity in

older or lack of essence in young. At least it was what some prof. in Chinse

have told us.

Good luck

Did he know any red heads? Any Irish?

I would tend to put freckles in the same category as eye color. Offspring

of parents with widely different skin tone often have freckles. Now when it

comes to aging, many people develop " liver spots " which are probably caused

by deficiency, but I don't know if I would attribute it to sexual activity -

I assume he means too much.

Hi Bart I agree with you. I think the meaning of freckles can vary with the

people. Maybe for the Chinese guys it means Jing deficiency and can be related

with sexual activity.

I have a friend who recently had a freckel appear and disappear on

CV14 who says that during this time a doctor told her she might have

a heart problem and thinks she probably opened up a blockage that

started to form. She's also had one appear on CV12 hat hasn't gone

away yet.

I think that along the same lines as interpreting freckles different

for different people, there are other diagnostic clues which could

vary from culture to culture - for instance early graying or balding

of hair due to KD xu. This is so common with european decent that I

don't think every case is due to KD xu. But it does seem to be a good

model for chinese people because most seem to keep their dark color.
