And to how many fewer peoples are we the tribune of hope. How like exile is our " homeland, " and what is " security " if it depends on suspicion of those who are unlike us? " : James Carroll We became a lonely nation in 2005 . Our light has been diminished . Suspicion has replaced our serene and fair temper. We spy, torture and lie in denial of this moral dilemma . Fear has taken its toll and we have settled for the false security of arms and preemptive war while the world watches in bewildered amazement. We have struck a deal with the devil and it has taken its toll . We have lost our spiritual moorings and the great ship of state is adrift. As the pale light of winter settles in we face the cold reality of an unjust war gone horribly wrong . Iraq has become our prison ~ and we are being held hostage against our will. Hurricane Katrina has swept away all pretense and laid bare the soft corrupt underbelly of the Cheney/Bush administration and the cold reality of John Edward's two Americas . It is at times like this that we must go inside and find, once again, our core beliefs of what we once stood for . For what we once accomplished and meant to mankind. Dedicated at our birth to the spread of liberty and freedom ~ we have become the world's largest supplier of arms . We have supported inhumane dictatorships through-out the world ~ including Saddam Hussain ~ both overtly and covertly . We have obviously sold our divine birthright for mometary and superficial gains. It has taken its toll and we have become alone and mistrusted with all our excesses. There is a way out of this moral quagmire. And it lies with that critical minority of human beings who continue to make a stand for human and spiritual values . That critical minority of human beings who will speak their truth despite the risks ~ much like the 9/11 families who forced the Bush Administration to examine its failed intelligence policies. Much like Cindy Sheehan who forced Bush out of his bunker and rekindled the anti- war movement. Much like Congressman John Murtha who said its time to bring the troops home and rightfully called Iraq a flawed policy wrapped in Illusion. Much like Senator Russ Feingold who voted against the war and also against the Patriot Act. Much like the scores of bloggers, like myself, whose relentless quest for the truth has driven the media to question versus accept the lies and deceptions of the Cheney/Bush Administration.. Yes, the hope of America lies within the hearts and voices of its people ~ not within the walls of its institutions. The hope of America lies with you .
