Mike,

Please ask for any help you need. We love to discuss cases here. At

least three of us have worked in school clinics in the past, also.

Hi Bo,

I'm a naturopathic physician and licensed acupunturist from Portland, Oregon

(USA). I became very excited when I read that you attended the Avicenna

Institute as I am currently interested in the medicine of Avicenna. Please

give me more information regarding that program, if possible. I would very

much appreciate it.

Thad Jacobs, M.S.O.M., N. D.

By the way, one of my Chinese medicine professors is a native German

(although, with all the time he's spent in China, I think he believes he's

Chinese). His name is Heiner Fruehauf and is very respected in the US.

Anyway, just thought I'd mention him in case you've heard of him. :)

Hi Daniel,

To use Chinese herbs we should make diagnose through Chinese way and

recommend herbs in agreement with the following criteria:

Four Qi (cold, refreshing, warm and hot),

Five flavors (spicy, salty, sour, bitter and sweetened),

Four directions (to arise, to go down, to float, to sink)

Five colors (green, red, yellow, darkness and clear)

As you see is necessary to know very well that we are doing, for not

provoking undesirable effects in the patient.

Hint: when you want to know if a medicine is good for the patient, apply the

test O-Ring Bi Digital Test (Dr Omura). In the case of an animal we should

use another person as middleman.

Since you're in Wisconsin, the first question has to be, how far are you

from the nearest big DC powerline? Often, it has been found that exposure

to electric fields is a factor in uncontrollable thyroids. If there are no

powerlines in the area, check your bedroom. This kind of thing can result

from an electric circuit breaker panel too close to the bed, certain types

of clock radios, electric blankets, and old iron or brass lamps.

It would be a good idea to check for a possible candida infection. This can

affect the thyroid.

OK, define big...and how close is close?.. there are power lines that are about a mile away from the house. However this problem predates the time we moved into this house (although that might make it not get better). The breaker box is in the basement on the opposite wall, we don't use (never have) an electric blanket, but do have a clock radio. How do I know if that is one that is contributing? Our bedroom light fixture is a newer ceiling fan. Do these things sound like problems or would they be ok?? The one thing I did forget to say in the first post is that this thyroid problem did happen while I was pregnant with my first child, just in case that makes a difference.

Then, the candida infection, that would be entirely possible. The only time in the last 6 years I've felt really great was the 2 months I was on the Atkins diet. I guess I'll go back to that for awhile and see what happens. Are there any supplements that I should check out to get started with??

Thanks for the help.

Hi Lynnette,

I would definitely check into the candida possibility. I'm just now working

with trying to regulate a low thyroid. Mine is undeniably candida related.

Times like pregnancy, puberty, and menopause are some of the key triggers

for thyroid problems. I'm not an expert, but iodine and thyodine

supplements can help to regulate the thyroid. Also, diet is key. If you

haven't read it, there's a great book called 'The Diet Cure' by Julia Ross.

She talks quite a bit about the thyroid in there.

Take care,

Ann

Fair questions. It's just a good idea to look into this stuff, just in

case. Big powerlines means they have metal towers that are larger than your

house.

With clock radios, the thing to do is move it away from the bed, at least 3

to 5 feet from any part of your body. If you get better, then that was the

problem. Terribly unscientific method there, but that's really all we have,

unless you want to get Spark Burmaster over to your place to do a thorough

check.

Ceiling fans rarely cause problems, although sometimes one installed just

BELOW the bed, in a room underneath, will do a number on people.

The fact that this started with pregnancy is a fairly common thing. Doctors

see it all the time, but they generally don't know what to do about it.

The only thyroid supplements i know of are kelp and potassium iodate. But

they sometimes can make things worse -- you have to monitor yourself very

carefully when using those.

Welcome Janine

Now, I haven't asked a question for a long time, (some on this group know that

early on when I joined I was always asking questions about words and terms I

didn't understand) something to do with me coming from this far off country :))

So, it's time for a question - please what is 'rockhounding'?

>older. They are 4 years old (daughter) and 5¥¯ months old (son).

My wife died from complications post stomach cancer surgery. She formed a

second tumor of non-specific cells which descended in teh peritonial cavity

and formed into a 12cm mass.

I spent about 16 hours a day, reasearch while also running our school,

taking care of kids and taking care of her. So the information in my head is

very jumbled and certainly not organized.

The studies I read about which interested me the most were one from Germany.

20 people were funded to take part in a ONE YEAR study to see if high doses

of CoQ10 would have any effect.

All these patients had Brain Cancer (which in the allopathic world means 99%

dead in 8 months or less, hence the one year funding)

Patients were put in 400 mg of CoQ10 and went to a diet high in fruit,

vegetable ( close to raw as I remember), and fairly high protein diets. They

exercised ( not sure what form but I think some weight training and things

like yoga and some cardio).

Most of the patients had multiple cancers two or three had breast cancer, a

few had liver cancer (another of the no chance cancers) one had cancer in

heart, liver, lung brain breast and eye!

4 years later, yes 4, 16 of the original 20 were still alive and 5 or 6

showed no signs of having any cancer at all.

I also read somewhere about melatonin in high doses (400~600 per day).

I do not really think Essaic Tea is very effective. I would think it might

be more effective if made fresh.

There is another chemical compound which will break the cycle where the

cancer (which is eating glucose) forces the body to take the lactic acid?

(think that is worng) and recycle it into glucose, which uses more energy

than it produces in glucose, hence the wasting effect some cancers have.

I have a naturopath in the West coast and I will contact him and see what

that is.

CoQ10 and Melatonin are relatively inexpensive as is teh last chemical.

I do not think cancer is a very strong cell type.

One other thing cance cannot grow in an alkaline sytem. There are some

calcium xxxates which will make the body more alkaline. Cancer loves acid.

Loves sugar, even honey.

However fruits (try to avoid the more acidic ones like citrus) help.

Good luck. You will find this illness is a blessing to you and your husband.

You now have joined the club of people who know how precious each moment of

life is.

Cancer is a very beatable cell structure.

I forgot to mention here, her second tumor was found on May 3 1999 by July

25th we had shrunk it to 5cm. She died from a ruptured intestine on Aug 5th

and that day it was only 3 cm.

So we were beating the cancer when we got side swiped by a different truck.

Dear Chris,

I recommend you give your mother my cassette lecture on "Naturopathy". The tape is free, and all I need is your name and address sent to me in a private e-mail, and I'll ensure you get one.

It is a great dissemination tool to get people switched over to natural healing. :o)

Love,

Doc

[herbal remedies] Intro

Hi everyone. My name is Chris and I have just joined this group. I have just completed a course in herbology and am currently studying Nutrition and Chemistry. I am really interested in learning as much as possible to stay well and try to help others as they request it.

I would like to know if anyone can suggest what I can do for my mother. She is 78 years old, diabetic, weighs 280 lbs., has arthritis, glaucoma, cataracts, congestive heart failure and who knows what else. Recently she had bad pain in her left knee. Her doctor x-rayed it and said she had no cartilage in that knee. He gave her a powerful pain killer and told her to stop taking glucosamine. Is that insanity or what?

I really believe that her health could be greatly improved if she could get away from the "doctor mentality" and start on natural remedies.

Thanks for any advice.

Chris
