Guest guest
Dear Brother, Aum Sai Ram. In the Ramayana/ Ramcharitramanas, it was not Ravana who appeared as the golden deer but rather one of his ministers, Maricha, who came to distract Rama and Lakshmana in order for Ravana to go to the hut where Sita was alone. There is no mention that Ravana was able to change shape even in Swami's Ramakatha Rasa Vahini. Also, Rama's deadly arrow which killed Ravana was aimed at his stomach which contained the chalice of amrit that was gifted to him by Lord Shiva. While we are talking about the demise of Ravana, we should note an important event which corroborates what you have said about how great a scholar Ravana was. After Rama struck Ravana down, it is said that Rama asked Lakshmana to go and learn about politics, war and governance from Ravana as he was greatly skilled in these fields. Lakshmana went and stood beside the head of Ravana who was lying on the ground. Ravana then told Lakshmana that he must stand at his feet because Lakshmana is now becoming his pupil and a pupil must be at the feet of his Guru. In my opinion, Ravana was no more evil than any of us today, overwhelmed by the constant struggle for more and more wealth and lusty attractions. Only when he, like we should, submitted to the Divine power of Rama did his spiritual armour regain its lustre. I hope this small effort lends a little help in anaswering your question. Jai Sai Ram.
