The Confusion - Parivartan YOGA

Hi All

A beautiful insight on the PARIVARTAN YOGA

Parivartan

Yoga

Parivartamsha Yoga

"Parivartan" =
Planet-A occupies the sign of Planet-B while simultaneously Planet-B occupies the sign of Planet-A.

The results of Parivartamsha are sometimes helpful; sometimes parivartana can make a bad situation even worse
:)

Results depend entirely on the characteristics of the grahas which are exchanging their rashis.

There are three varieties of parivartana yoga: good, bad, and great.

Dainya Parivartamsha Yoga

If one of the grahas in the parivartana yoga rules a dusthana (domains 6, 8, or 12), then the other graha will be damaged.

According to K.S. Charak (p 637)
"This combination leads to a wicked nature, persistent trouble from opponents, and ill health."

However, the dusthana lord will be strengthened by its interaction with the other non-dusthana partner.

Kahala Parivartamsha Yoga

If one of the exchange partners is lord of domain-3, kahala yoga applies.

The non-L-3 partner cannot be a dusthana lord. (If the non-L-3 partner would be a dusthana lord, the yoga would be Dainya, above.)

The non-L-3 partner would be lord of 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, or 11.

The L-3 partner infuses the parivartana with courage, competitiveness, communications enthusiasm, and all of the powers of L-3. This yoga is considered beneficial with some limits. The limits on benefits is that L-3 gives mentalization, which can be superficial and repetitive as well as distracting from wisdom. Kahala yoga will energize the talking, scheming, competing mind to go out and get stuff done.

Maha Parivartamsha Yoga

When the lords of 1, 2, 4, 5, 7,9,1 0, or 11 get exchange of signs, Maha Yoga results.

K.S. Charak (p 630) says,
"This combination promises wealth, status, and physical enjoyments, plus beneficial influences from the houses involved."

An important difference: Parivartamsha vs. Mutual-Aspect.

The Yoga of Parivartan (exchange of signs) strengthens both planets even if they are both malefics - possibly increasing their evil capacity, but always dignifying both.

Mutual Aspect
by contrast does not normally dignify the two planets. Any two planets in opposition, 180 degrees apart, will provide mutual aspect to each other. If those two planets are friendly, the mutual aspect is a good thing, but then they will need to both rule favorable houses and occupy good signs in order to really help each other.

The mutual aspect of Saturn and Mars which can occur when those two grahas occupy at 180 deg or 90/270 deg (4/10) angle to each other, is nearly always a disaster, causing intensely repressed anger which consumes most of the person's life force, eventually blocking the very accomplishments this person works so hard for.

A Parivartamsha yoga of Shani and Kuja, no matter how repressed it makes the personality, will give full discipline from Shani and full productivity from Mangala.

The native will definitely accomplish something in life despite one's habit of taking the longer, harder road toward nearly every goal.

L-6 with L-11

  •

Loss of wealth will come to pass during the 31st year, if Labha and 6th Lords exchange their Rashis.

- BPHS Ch.17, sl. 26

L-2 with L-9, when L-1 occupies kendra or kona

  •

Khadga Yoga. Should there be an exchange of Rashis between the Lords of Dhana and Dharma Bhava, as Lagna's Lord is in a Kendra, or in a Kona, Khadga Yoga is obtained. One with Khadga Yoga will be endowed with wealth, fortunes and happiness, be learned in Shastras, be intelligent, mighty, grateful and skilful.

-BPHS Ch. 36, Sl. 25-26

L-1 with L-5

  •

    Maha Raja Yoga.

Should
Lagna's Lord and Putra's Lord exchange their Rashis,
or,

if Atma Karaka and Putra Karaka (Char) are in Lagna, or in Putra Bhava, or in the exaltation Rashi, or in own Rashi, or in own Navamsha receiving a Drishti from a benefic,

Maha Raja Yoga is produced. The native so born will be famous and happy.

-BPHS Ch. 39, Sl. 6-7

L-1 with L-10

  •

An exchange of Rashis between Karma's Lord and Lagna's Lord will make the native associated with the king in a great manner.

-BPHS Ch. 40, Sl. 13

L-1 with L-10

  •

If the lord of the Lagna and the 10th exchange houses with each other then they form a Raja Yoga. They will confer high position, reputation and power.

-BPHS, Ch. 5, Sl. 41

L-9 with L-10

  •

Likewise if the lord of the 9th and the 10th exchange houses, they give rise to a Raja Yoga and such an individual is blessed with reputation, fame and power.

    - BPHS, Ch. 5, Sl. 42

Navamsha Kuja with Navamsha Shukra

  •

Should there be exchange of Navamshas between Mars and Venus, the female will be secretly addicted to other men.

  •

If she has Moon in 7th House simultaneously, her husband also will be so.

- BPHS, Ch. 25, Sl. 33

Shani-Kuja exchange, in radix or navamsha, in kendras from lagna "in fateful degrees"

  •

Should Mars and Saturn exchange their Rashis or Navamshas, be in fateful degrees (of those Rashis occupied by them), and are placed

  •

In Kendras (from Lagna), the native's death will be through sovereign wrath or by being impaled by a spear or some such killing weapons.

- BPHS, Ch. 26, Sl. 37

Exchange between Benefic Lords of trines from lagna

  •

When the Ascendant and Trinal houses are occupied by benefics in strength and their lords mutually exchange places, or are in Angular houses or be associated with or aspected by Jupiter, they bestow the native with sons and grandsons.

- BPHS, Ch. 15, Sl. 9

Surya-Chandra exchange navamshas

  •

Should there be an exchange between the Sun and the Moon in the Navamsha, the native will suffer from phlegmatic disorders.

  •

Should the Sun and the Moon be in one Rashi having identical longitudes, the native will be emaciated at all times.

-- Saravali, b75

Shukra-Kuja exchange

  •

If Venus and Mars exchange their divisions, the female will go after other males.

  •

If the Moon be simultaneously in the 7th house, she will join others with consent of her husband.

~~ Saravali, Ch. 46, 18

When Saturn falls in Mars' Sapta Vargas, and Mars in Saturn's Sapta Vargas, do they become strong?"

"Ans:

You cannot lay down any hard and fast rules in judging the strength or otherwise of planets
when there is an exchange of vargas between two natural malefics.

  •

If it is a case of Parivarthana Yoga
    (interchange of places), this considerably
    strengthens it.

  •

In cases other than a parivarthana, due weight must be given to their lordship and similar factors.

  •

    When
    Mars is a yogakaraka
and Saturn happens to be in Mars' vargas, then Saturn is automatically rendered strong.

  •

As to whether such strength expresses itself in good or bad respects depends on the horoscopic disposition of Saturn, though by virtue of Saturn's inherent malefic nature, a measure of evil is bound to predominate."

1. Introduction to Parivartana

Yoga

Parivartana means; to turn around, exchange, one revolution or to return. It is one of the names

of the second incarnation of Çri Vishnu, namely Çri Kürma Avatar. It refers to the condition of at

least two planets having an exchange of placements, i.e. a planet placed in a sign, whose lord is

placed in the sign lorded by the first planet, hence causing an exchange of placements.

Example: the Sun is placed in Aries, whilst the lord Mars, is placed in Leo; this causes a

parivartana or exchange between Sun and Mars. This is known as parivartana yoga.

It is necessary to clarify the effects of parivartana yoga. When the parivartana occurs, the planets

involved are working together to create a change. The nature of the change depends on the type

of parivartana.

1.1. Types of parivartana

Parivartana yoga can occur in the following ways: (1) between signs, (2) between nakñatras, (3)

between houses.

Here the parivartana between houses refers to the exchange between the karakas of the houses,

and not to the exchange between lordships of houses. These three forms of parivartana are called;

· Räçi and amça parivartana, when the parivartana occurs in the signs of the räçi and

navämça.

· Jéva parivartana, when the exchange occurs between the nakñatras and their lords.

· Käraka parivartana, when the exchange occurs between the karakas of the houses,

i.e. Sun in the fifth house, whilst Jupiter is placed in the first house.

2. Räçi Parivartana

When the lords of two signs exchange places, this is known as räçi parivartana. This parivartana

causes a change between the two planets on various levels.

· Guëa – this indicates the essence of the change.

· Tattva – the type of activity.

· Bhäva – the activities surrounding the change.

The change in guëa can help understand whether the change is working out for the better of the

world, or for the worse. Example: if a parivartana occurs between Jupiter (sattva guëa) and

Saturn (tamas guëa), then the guëa is either falling from sattva to tamas, or rising from tamas to

sattva. If the guëa is falling, then it is very inauspicious for the world.

The tattva if shared by the two planets indicates a sharing of energy to complete the task. If the

tattva are not friendly towards each other, then one of the two planets may be suffering on

account of the change, or a serious mismatch in energy is occurring.

The bhävas involved will indicate what is the activity surrounding the exchange, i.e. if it involves

the seventh house, then a change in relationships could be occurring, whilst if involved with the

lagna, a change in personality could occur.

The state of the two planets in the parivartana as being in exaltation or debility should also be

seen, as this can cause a radical change in one of the parties involved, i.e. if Jupiter is in Capricorn

and Saturn is in pisces, it can indicate one person falling drastically whilst the other rises. This

basically can leave one party with a bitter taste.

Because the exchange is causing a change from one house to another, the focus of the change

needs to be found.

Rule 1: The planet associated with the lagna, its lord or the ärüòha lagna will indicate the

focus of the change.

Example: if Sun is in the lagna in Scorpio and Mars is in Leo, then the exchange is happening

from Mars to the Sun. This could mean that the guëa is changing from Tamas (Mars) to Sattva

(Sun), and that this could be performed through physical activity or some exertion of energy

(Agni tattva), and it would happen in the persons work area (tenth house), with focus on

changing the native (lagna). Both planets are well placed in their signs, showing that the change

benefits both parties.

3. Amça parivartana

An amça parivartana occurs between planets in the navämça chart. Since the navämça deals with

our relationships with people, especially that with our spouse, the amça parivartana can indicate

a change in the quality of the people we meet. This is especially prominent in the daçäs of these

planets.

The placement of these planets in the räçi chart will indicate how these relationships cause

changes in our lives.

Rule 3: The timing of amça parivartana is done with the mahä daçä to see the body and the

antara daçä to highlight relationships.

4. Sükñma parivartana

Sükñma parivartana is the exchange between the nakñatra lordships of planets. Here we use

vimçottari lordships. Example: if Jupiter is in Chiträ nakñatra whilst Mars (lord of Chiträ) is in

Punarvasu, then sükñma parivartana yoga occurs.

Since the nakñatras are primarily presided over by the Moon, the realm of the nakñatras will

indicate how the community or societies attitude towards the native is at any particular time.

Sükñma parivartana shows a transformation in this attitude or approach, and the results should

be read from the Chandra lagna. Usually when people run malefic daçäs the impact of society is

also malefic, but if a parivartana occurs, the impact can be exactly the opposite.

This becomes especially important in the charts of famous personalities, who spend a lot of time

in the lime light.

Rule 4: The mahä daçäs placement from Moon will show how society approaches the native. If

a sükñma parivartana occurs, then the results are different from the approach.

5. Käraka parivartana

Käraka parivartana happens when the kärakas of certain bhävas exchange their bhäva

placements. Example: Jupiter is the käraka for fifth house, whilst Moon is käraka for fourth

house. If Jupiter were to be placed in the fourth house, whilst Moon is placed in the fifth house,

then a käraka parivartana is taking place between them.

Käraka parivartana causes a change in the roles of people. Suddenly your friend acts like your

father, and your father acts like a friend. Or in another instance, you may begin acting like a child

whilst ones children take on your role as a parent.
