Thinking about God

Why do we don't think about God in the state of deep sleep ?

When we are conditioned to identify with the material mind and body, the states of waking and dreaming are activity states whereas deep sleep is noted by absence of identification with the body or mind. So not misidentifying with the body or mind but yet not properly identifying oneself as spiritsoul one is left with no sense of activity in either the material or spiritual state.

Thus deep sleep is very much like the Buddhist idea or nirvana.

It is interesting to note that when we come out of deep sleep uponawakening we have a certain awareness of having been in deep sleep atsome point in the night. That proves that there is consciousness existing even when in deep sleep. Consciousness is not really extinquished at any point.

Why God becomes so important only when we are awakened ?

For the same reason as above. In the waking or dreaming state there is a conciousness of the individual self although the idea of self is misidentified. So in this state many things may seem important to us. It may be God or making the house payment. In deep sleep there are no concerns at all to be deemed important.

Do we become ignorant during deep sleep ?

Thank you

Not that we become gnorant during deep sleep and knowledgable in waking and dreaming, all three are states of ignorance if we are forgetful of Krishna.

For the liberated soul in this world (jivan-mukta) he remains awake to his spiritual nature even during all three phases.

Consciousness is only dominated by these three when one is conditioned.

And how is one conditioned? By simply miss using their free will by choosing to not serve Krsna but chase their own desires.

Yes, when one becomes pure hearted they think and also dream of Krsna. Dreaming is just a form of thinking and desiring however on the material level of the mind, it is, as you once put it, a very hodgepodge and poor attempt to imitate the dreaming Maha Vishnu.

These bodies we are in are part of HIS dream anyway, but we, the jiva-tattva, only enter His dreams (as our baddha-jiva condition of consciousness) and acquire many of the vessels He has dreamed up, that will enables us to experience our self centred desires.

Thank you very much theist ji for this explanation. :)

So in yoga nidra we are not forgetful of Krishna, is this the difference between deep sleep & yoga nidra ? & is it because tamo guna is higher in deep sleep we are forgetful of Krsihna ?

Matador prabhu. I am sorry I don't know enough about yoga nidra to feel comfortable using that term other then I have read it in referrence to Maha-vishnu "sleep" for creating the many universes.

When we remember Krishna we remember our true selves as well and the nature of our true selves is to be eternal awake, A person so situated sees the body go through it motions of walking, sitting sleeping etc. but knows he himself is just the witness and is not involved in the bodies activitites.

The same goes for the activities of the mind. He knows that the awakened, dreaming and deep sleep states have nothing to do with him.

This is such and advanced stated our yoga that we can't imitate it but it is helpful to try to understand it philosophically as we are doing here.

Maybe look a bit into lucid dreaming. Undferstanding how to be awake during sleep is helpful to the realization of aham brahmasmi.

Good lucid dreaming article:
