New Mirabai Book

Haribol!

I'm a 24 year old writer and I'm self-publishing my first novel 'Follow the Cowherd Boy'. It's based on the life story of Mirabai, as told by the acharyas and what I could find in the historical records.

I wrote this book because Mirabai is a hero of mine and I wanted to spread her legend in the western world as she is not very well known here. Another reason was that I wanted to explain things about Sanatan Dharma that most westerners don't know, so that they can understand it more and not confuse it with the things they see in the media.

I hope and pray that Krishna is pleased with my efforts.

The book is out on October 25th, 2006 and is available to order from trafford.com and amazon.com. The ISBN number is 1-4120-8626-4.

Thanks,

J A Joshi

I just wanted to let everyone know that the book launch date is only four days away. I've set up a booksigning in my local area for 27th Oct too. I'm in talks with my local PBS radio station about a possible interview and with local tv too. If anyone is interested in the book, they'll make great diwali presents!

Happy Diwali and Happy New Year!

Radhey Radhey!

I saw your leaflet about your book in Swades Grocery in Lewisville this evening. I tried to go to the website you listed, but it was not available. So I did a google search on your book and ended up here.

I'm eager to see what you have written. Perhaps we will meet at the Bookworm book signing.

All glories to Mirabai and all the Rasik Saints!

I wanted to remind everyone that I'll be doing a book signing in Frisco, Texas this Saturday and Sunday. I hope to meet some of you there! Details are on my webpage:

http://www.trafford.com/06-0382

I did a writer's talk last night and it went well. The people seemed very interested in Mira and Indian history and I sold several books. I have arranged more talks like this and am booked to speak to some large audiences at local libraries in the new year. Some of the talks are for young adults and some are to adults as I want to encourage everyone to learn about Hinduism and Indian culture and history. I'm excited about these opportunities and will be putting the details for them on my webpage soon too.

In the meantime, I wish everyone on this forum a very happy holiday season and a peaceful new year. Let us hope 2007 is a year of enlightenment and understanding.

Yesterday I was very pleased to receive a letter from one of my favourite writers - Stephen Knapp. I had sent him a copy of 'Follow the Cowherd Boy' and in his letter he thanked me for sending it to him and congratulated me on my efforts. I'm so happy to hear that other Vaishnavs are pleased with my book and am inspired to work harder than ever to bring this book to more people. Thank you, Mr Knapp!

I'll be giving a talk called 'Writing as a Career' for young adults at the Skillman Southwestern Library in Dallas on February 12th, 8-7pm. I've very excited as my last talk on writing and motivation at the MLKJr Library went very well with the audience members being very interested in Indian history and culture. I'll be promoting 'Follow the Cowherd Boy' too while I'm there and audience members will be able to buy a copy once the talk is over.

I hope I can connect with this audience as well as the last one and that they are inspired to learn more.

If you are 12 to 21 years old and are interested in meeting me and learning about writing as a way to serve, please come! The address is:

Skillman Southwestern Library, 5707 Skillman St, Dallas, TX 75206.

My talk with the young adults of Skillman Southwestern Library went really well. The children responded and were very interested in my returning to do a storytelling talk. I've been wondering what story I could tell them. I'm thinking it will be something from the Ramayan. If you have any suggestions then let me know.

I have a grand tour of the southern states coming up in March. I'll be posting a long list of all my locations and dates soon, as soon as I tie up some loose ends.

Till then,

Jai Shri Krishna!

I have a very busy March coming up, with the grace of Krishna. My next two events are talks:

The first is a talk about how I wrote my book 'Follow The Cowherd Boy' and the challenges of writing it. I'll be discussing how I did my research and travelled around India and also the technical aspects of writing a book like this. The talk will be delivered to the Southwest Writers' Group of Dallas on March 3rd, from 1-3pm. If anyone is a member of this group then please come along. Audience members will be able to buy copies of my book at the end.

The second talk is about the craft of novel writing and I'll also be discussing the pros and cons of self publishing vs traditional publishing. It will be delivered on March 7th, at Preston Royal Library in Dallas from 6:30-8pm and is for ages 17 and up. Everyone will have the opportunity to buy copies of my book at the end of the talk.

Next up I have three book signings planned in Texas:

March 8th, The Twig Book Shop in San Antonio, 5-7pm.

March 9th, Borders Express in Killeen, 2-6pm.

March 10th, A Thirsty Mind Book Shop, 11am.

Till then,

My three book signings in Texas went well and I'm back home, getting ready for my long book tour that starts tomorrow. I'll be driving to Shreveport, Louisiana in the morning. It's wonderful to meet people and tell them about Mirabai and see them interested to know more about her. I look forward to more of these experiences,

I'm back from my tour of the southern states and it was a wonderful experience. I met many people who were very interested in Mirabai and her life. It was such a happy thing to be talking about Mirabai everyday and encouraging others to learn about her and be inspired by her.

I've already started recieving emails from people I met and they've expressed to me their love for Mirabai's story and their awe of her devotion to Krishna. What wonderful satsang is being performed all over the south!

Haribol!

I'm back from my tour and was able to experience the incredible beauty of the southwestern states of America. I visited the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, the mountains of Utah and the gorgeous mystic land of Taos, New Mexico. The people at these areas were just as beautiful as the land they occupy and I was able to connect with many locals and share the book with them. I met devotees and had darshan at some of the temples in these areas too which made this not just a book tour but a pilgrimage. I feel so fortunate that Krishna has given me this opportunity to associate with his devotees.

There is a lovely Hanuman Temple in Taos that was founded by the disciples of Neem Karoli Babaji in 1978. The satsang and seva that continues there to this day is ecstatic and filled with love. I pray that I will again have the chance the visit Hanuman as his home in Taos.

Right now I'm trying to sort out my next tour to the northwestern states.

This will be a very long tour and I'm looking forward to seeing these states in particular. I'm told that this part of the world is filled with stunning beautiful and serene nature. I'm also looking forward to visiting the temples in these areas and seeing how Krishna is playing his games in the northwest. It should be a lot of fun.

If any of you live near these locations then please come and see me. I'd love to meet with devotees at my signings and it makes the whole experience more special and memorable.

The best thing about travelling is the return home, I think.

If any of you are in these areas then please feel free to come and see me at my signing events. I would love to meet the members of this forum and please don't feel that you have to buy a book. You don't have to buy one at all, it would only be nice to meet devotees and talk of Krishna and Mirabai. This is the greatest enjoyment for me in doing book tours.

Jai Joshi

Yes, Ramayan is a great topic to talk about. Since your audience consists of young people keep it short and sweet. You probably know this, I am just giving you a quick reminder.

Thank you so much for all your preaching efforts.

Haribol Indulekadasi.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking of telling the story of Rama's wedding, the storytelling session isn't set up yet but I might work on sorting that out this winter.

I'm doing a talk in Berea KY in a couple of weeks so I'm excited about that. I've fallen in love with public speaking and I'm really grateful Krishna gave me the opportunity to do this through my book marketing because otherwise I would never have known how enjoyable public speaking it.
