Dear all member

I want to have your attention on this issue-

Today when i watched IndiaTV news channel then Baba Ramdev's programme - Yoga Science is coming on screen- he tells about Migrane - cause and remedies and treatment by Yoga Aasan. First he describes about cause of Migrane and later he announced this is critical disease and only can remove by Yoga and no medicines are made yet or avialable in the world . But some medicines are found in ayurveda and later on he prescribes for removing pain of head like migrane-

See his prescripiton given below-

1- Godanti Bhasam - 10 gm

2 - Praval Pisti - 10 gm

3 - Medha Vati - 10 gm

and now mix properly and make 7 equal dose of this mixture and take three or four a day . - IS THIS NOT OVER DOSE OF PISTIES OR BHASAM ?

And later on he describes kwath for migrane that will contain herbs like - BRAHAMI , SHANKHPUSPI , USTUKUDDOUS, MEETHE VATCH etc. he says take all herbs in equal part and take 10 gsm from this mixture of herbs- and pour in water and take this water----- IS THIS WAY TO TAKE QUATH ?

In yoga he never tell to use 8 Law to start Yoga like- Yam ,Niyam etc.

I want to appeal to stop him to prescribe ayuvedic medicines or dose on his programme.

Dear Sir,

I wish you could raise your voice with the same quality and quantity of

anger against the west who have started Ayurveda courses and are asking

vaidyas from India who want to practice there to write their 4 ½ year

course. I am not saying that Ramdev is right. But, neither is the west. Baba

Ramdev is our man, he is an Indian first. Let us not slander him in public.

What about the west terming Ayurveda and other traditional medicines as

alternative. Haven’t you gracefully accepted it? Why?

Please reply.

Mahesh

i don't know about the claim that migraines cannot be cured except by

yoga

from a Chinese perspective, migraines occur as the result of

ascending yang energy that rises in the gall bladder meridians, which

travel up the back of the head, then down back to behind the ear, and

over the ear and down to the temples and ending at the corner of the

eyes

the treatment is to stop this ascending energy by draining the liver/

gall bladder of "damp heat", which is synonymous with kapha/pitta

there is a Chinese herbal remedy commonly used to do this called Long

Dan Xie Gan Wan

I have used it for migraines with several patients and have had very

good success with it, along with some dietary and lifestyle

interventions

western herbal strategies are somewhat similar to Chinese medicine,

using herbs that act on the liver (pitta), such as Agrimony,

Celandine, Fringetree and Blue Flag, while correcting/relaxing the

nervous system (vata), such as Betony, Skullcap and Vervain

Feverfew is much lauded, but in my opinion is much better for

prevention and not so good for treatment

one Ayurvedic source suggests migraines are a kapha/vata disorder,

which i would think relates more to a chronic sinus problem,

resulting in congestion and blockage of the cranial blood vessels

for this nasya, neti and pranayama is very helpful, as well as herbs

such as Vacha (Acorus)

sometimes the migraines are caused by muscle tightness and postural

problems, and thus ergonomics changes to the work-place as well as

hatha yoga, tai chi etc can all be very useful

of course there are other causes of migraines, and so if these simple

strategies don't work a more comprehensive assessment should be

undertaken

best wishes... todd

Dear Friends,

Research is always good. But for most people, they try

to do whatever is at hand and handy. So far whoever

has seen this writer (there are hundreds) for back,

etc pain, and who has had migraine also, has

invariably reported relief from migraine-like

headaches. Such patients include senior army doctors,

homeopaths, reiky practitioners and advanced faith

healers, just to name a few. I remember to have picked

up a person (out of scores present) who was suffering

from back pain the most at a free camp. His back pain

was instantly gone. Then he disclosed his own identity

that he was a practicing homeopath and when he had

come to the camp, he was having "occipetal" pain in

the backside of his head. That pain also completely

disappeared after doing the ATBSNR demo in my presence

in full view of the entire audience. That is how most

people learn ATBSNR exercises at one go since proof of

the pudding is in the eating.

So those who suffer from migraine can also try ATBSNR

with do's and don'ts about food and water intake as

specified at the website www.atbsnr.com That is the

easiest thing one can do. If one can't get over, then

one can take to alternative medicine also in addition

to ATBSNR.

After all, patients welfare is to be kept uppermost in

our minds; isn't it?

Dear gunjan ji

I am not aware of your qualificational background and experiences in

use of ayurvedic medicines but i can only say that baba has given a

respectable place to ayurveda by lauching it from the pad of yoga

which is the record in the history of ayurveda and neither any yogi

or vaidya did it in 20th century. So if u are a real well wisher of

ayurveda before critisising him on the dose of prawal and godanti

in the case of migrain u could have reffered some of the experienced

physicians on it.as far as the qwatha is concern since its not

boiled its not quatha but a kind of sheeta which baba has experinced

by using on their patients whats harm in it.We should learn from

the experiences of the people instead of critisising without logic

in public this does not make man great at all but our teachers are

doing the same and we are learning the same its not our fault

alone. Its time to forget our ayurvedic politicians who are

incharges/contractors to develop ayurveda through the ladder of

government and helped in a great way in creating quackery through

the instruments of opening ill equipped colleges, funds of research

grants, organising seminars, and many other activities a like on the

name of developing ayurveda with nil results accept for their own

names and heavy pockets.Be careful from the so called emminant

persons of ayurveda displayed and propgated by their chamachas to

get pie of that.

TAKE QUATH ?

In ayurveda, there is a special way of taking herbs in above way,

without boiling the herb or their mixture. This is termed "Heem",

first referred in message 131 on list by Cybervaidya, and several

heem formulations discussed by this author in messages 1038, 1051,

1574, 2474, 2916, 5628.

A mixture of honey-lemon juice in warm water is also a heem, as also

fenugreek seeds soaked overnight, take only water in the morning

throwing away the seeds, to reduce the fat deposits in arteries.

Many herbs release their active ingredients to some extent in water

as they are soaked. Many seeds also change their contents, relese

some vitamins, start germination when soaked. Take black gram dhal

for instance.

Wheat, to be sowed for making wheat grass for chronic patients, can

also be soaked overnight, sowed in the morning and water (Heem) drunk

for getting some vitamins which are readily absorbed in body.

Hope this clears the confusion.

What Baba Ramdev suggests is to do Pranayam the way he

suggests and for the prescribed time and duration.

That may cure migraines also. Giving Ayurvedic

medicines is not a priority for him and he is right.

If you can cure a disease without any medicines, then

what is the harm?

If nothing works, then only he suggests to take

medicines as described in his book "Aushadh Darshan".

Sometimes, while explaining details of medicines

extempore, things might differ.

Hence he always tells to follow Aushad Darshan or ask

his Vaidyas how to take those medinis.

Then why waste your breath when he is doing so much

for Yoga, Ayurveda and accupuncture? He is actually an

'avataar' in the making. You are lucky to have been

born and seen Baba Ramdev.

Sometimes, I too don't agree fully with him but even

then he is the guru moving towards being an avataar.

As for example, I too have developed some exercises as

per details at www.atbsnr.com that relieve various

aches and pains within minutes, converting the pain

into pleasure. Thousands of people have been

benefited. But when I too started trying his Pranayam,

Yoga and "Shookshma" exercises, I found them immensely

beneficial. Small round lumps that I used to feel

around my arms had vanishedwithin a few weeks. I also

felt much better in health by adding his Pranamyams to

my daily routine.

Hence, I have now started prescribing those pain

relief exercises that take just a few minutes followed

by 10 minutes each of Kapaalbhati and Anulom-Vilom to

remain pain-free and healthier throughout one's life

without any need to fall sick ordinarily.

So please try to understand what good work Baba Ramdev

is doing to take the Indian system of Yoga to new

heights throughout the world with spectacular results.

Wishing you all the very best in life,

This author agrees with what Dr.Bhate said another procedure which is called by Dr.Bhate as "Heem" but more appropriate word for the warm water and lemon example will be "Phant" according to ayurveda also same way "Heem" is prepared as described by him but water used is cold as Heem means cold and hence Ayurveda has given another name for it as Sheetkashay"

Ref:Sharangdhar samhita 3 chapter.

wanted to suggest this change

Thank you

Dear Vaidhya ji,

Let me quote your own words- Baba has given a respectable place to Ayuvred by launching it from the pad of yoga

which is the record in the history of ayurveda. Respectable place to Ayuved- it means ayurved had not gotten respect before Baba does. I think and my belief is -it is oldest medicine treatment of the world. And Ayurved is taken to western countries before Ramdev by our other spiritual guru like mahesh yogi , swami Ram and many yogi of Bihar school of yoga, munger.

I was trying to save its old glory as Ayurved has, already in the world. My only wish, to send a message- to stop......, to keep and maintain its glory and who has not deep knowledge of Ayuvred can destroy its glory by prescribing wrong methods and wrong dose of medicines .

>in the case of migrain u could have reffered some of the experienced

physicians on it<

Dear vaidhya ji how can I refer to a experienced practitioner as Baba Ramdev was preaching under big banner on TV. It is not possible to me or any simple vaidhya like me to preach or suggest on TV- because I have not sufficient money to launch our programs and I am also not interested to establish a huge empire of buildings in the name of research works.

This is my answer and you have given already in your mail. thanks

thanks again and regards

I think Vaidya J.P ji intended to say that in the context of modern period, in which Ramdev Baba seems to have

done something commendable. None can deny that he has given credence to yoga & Ayurveda in contemporary world. Ayurveda is definitely the most developed medical science and once ruled the world BUT today, the majority of students take up Ayurveda as they fail to qualify in modern medicine courses, and their sole aim is

to practice Allopathy after taking the degree. Even professors & head of deptts of Ayurveda colleges ( I know personally some such doctors in Rishikul Haridwar & Jamnagar Gujrat) who practice Allopathy.

However, your point on Kwath and migraine is very important. It cannot be ignored. However, since it involves

Ramdev Baba, somebody should ask him this question and then the Ayurveda community should take form an opinion. Not before that.

And its not that Ramdev Baba is hogging the TV limelights because he has money. He did not have much money when he started. It poured in later. But, still, the mainstream electronic media & the English press (India) has NO place for him. Beacuse anything related to spirituality is an 'anethema' to Indian intelligentia. He come in news only when somebody vilifies him and then, very conveniently, he is mocked at. But, when he is invited to participate in Live Tv discussions all intellectuals & doctors run for cover.

And many gurus having more money have their continuous shows on TV. But none have reached the hearts of masses like Ramdev Baba has done. I am myself a TV director in Mumbai. And I can tell you that TV cannot give

you this kind of popularity. It can give u a launching pad but its your merit alone which can make u take off. Many actors act in films but how many become Amitabh Bachchan ? I have seen innumerable people having got their lives changed due to Ramdev Baba.

Ramdev Baba has revived simple things of yoga which have the power to change one's life. His success lies in

re- emphasising them. Its not a joke by any means.

I do not know of future. But, at present, the ONLY & the BIGGEST threat to Westernisation ( & Western values & systems) & consumerism in India is Ramdev Baba. I may not fully agree with him. But if people like him can control or dictate the government, India will change soon. For sure.

Dear Yashendra ji

If you sow a seed in past and look after properly to grow a plant , only then you can have a tree- is it clear ? and if someone comes to near that tree and tells about tree- its leaf ,bark ,fruits etc. and if this preaching has been broadcast on TV - then it does not have mean that people are seeing that tree now , is planted by him ( preacher ). It is laborious works of those people who sowed the seed in soil and looked after properly. One thing is more- how many people out of this country watch the Indian TV's programme ? It is india where people are influenced by seeing the TV's show like sash-bahu serial and super hero shakitman etc. I think this is clear enough to object.

same story is here- mahesh yogi , is first spiritual & yoga guru who brought ayurveda to western country and i know some practitioner who brought ayurved to western countries and these people spread seeds of ayurved. These people spent a lot of labour and time to make understandings of ayurved. Brief of some of those people is given below-

1-

Dr. Lad, a distinguished author, has been recognized since 1984 as the foremost expert of Ayurveda in the United States. Dr. Lad brings a wealth of classroom and practical experience to the United States. A native of India, he served for three years as Medical Director of the Ayurveda Hospital in Pune, India. He was Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Pune University College of Ayurvedic Medicine for 15 years. He holds a Bachelor’s of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS) degree from the University of Pune and a Master’s of Ayurvedic Science (MASc) degree from Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya. Dr. Lad’s academic and practical training include the study of Allopathy (Western medicine) and surgery, as well as traditional Ayurveda. Beginning in 1979, he has traveled throughout the United States sharing his knowledge of Ayurveda. In 1984 he came to Albuquerque as Director, principal instructor and founder of the Ayurvedic Institute. Dr. Lad is the author of several books and is

respected throughout the world for his knowledge of Ayurveda. He personally teaches most of the Ayurvedic topics at the Ayurvedic Institute. Dr. Vasant Lad - revered Ayurvedic physician, educator, lecturer, author of several texts on Ayurveda and numerous articles. His most recent is The Textbook of Ayurveda: Fundamental Principles, Vol. I.

2-Govender, well versed in ayurvedic pharmacology, is the only person entitled to import and dispense the medicines in South Africa. At last count, he had 450 of the thousands of remedies available at his disposal.

3- Swami Sada Shiva Tirtha, D.Sc. - has long been a student of Indian meditation and has his Doctor of Science in Ayurvedic Medicine. Swami Tirtha began teaching meditation in 1976, and later founded the Ayurvedic Holistic Center in 1988. He has spent 10 years in advanced private study with Ayurvedic doctors from Benares Hindu University and those living in the Himalayas. He received his sannyas as a swami in 1991. He created one of the first Ayurveda websites in U.S., has published 2 spiritual books by Swami Shanka Purushottam Tirtha and wrote the Ayurveda Encyclopedia and the Ayurveda Primer, an e-book/interactive multimedia CD-Rom. He has been a political advisor and lecturer for Ayurveda at John Hopkins and Penn State Universities, the White House Alternative Medicine Commission,a special advisor for the Ayurveda Acupuncture Board of Accreditation of Australia, and on the Advisory Board of the American Ayurvedic Association.

4- Dr. Partap Chauhan(Ayurvedacharya) is an author, educator and master Ayurvedic physician. He is the founder of Jiva Ayurveda, India and has traveled to more than 25 countries to teach Ayurveda and help patients suffering mainly from the so called incurable diseases like MS, Fibromyalgia, AIDS, Cancer and CFS. Dr. Chauhan has done a pioneering work in telemedicine and launched the world’s first Ayurvedic website in 1995. Amongst health projects from 136 countries, “TeleDoc”, a telemedicine program for the poor villagers in India, won the best ehealth project award from United Nations in Geneva in December, 2003.

5- Dr. Subhash Ranade - is an international lecturer and educator. He has retired as Professor and Head of the Dept. of Ayurveda, Pune University. He has written more than 70 books on Ayurveda which have been published in Marathi, English, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, Polish and Spanish languages. He is the Chairman of the International Academy of Ayurveda, Principal of Ashtang Ayurveda College in Pune, India, is visiting professor to the colleges of Ayurveda in the U.S. as well as those in Germany, Poland, Australia, Italy, and Japan. He is Honorary Consultant for the creation and building of Veda Klinik, a new 400 bed Ayurvedic hospital in Charlottenhohe, Germany which will open in fall of 2003.

6- My first stop on the ayurveda trail is Triguna. For a man who has felt the pulse of kings and presidents, his clinic is unpretentious. It is located in a squalid little village named Sarai Kale Khan behind Delhi's Nizamuddin railway stationTriguna has been associated with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the TM guru who first introduced ayurveda to the western world and launched the career of Dr Deepak Chopra. Says Triguna's son, Devendra: "Deepak used to work as an interpreter for my father when he went on world tours in the late '80s on Maharishi's invitation. Deepak showed interest and by and by picked up knowledge of ayurveda." For Maharishi Ayurved, Triguna helped create Amrit Kalash, the rejuvenation formula which has sold worth over one million in the USA alone. Currently, he is offering his consultancy to the panchkarma clinic in Khosla Hospital in Delhi as well as some ayurveda hospitals in Germany and the USA run by the Maharishi's organization.

7-Due to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s inspiration, Dr. Karin Pirc, MD PhD, and other western medical doctors took their ayurvedic training at Maharishi Vedic University and she thereafter opened already 17 years ago the first Ayurveda Health Center in Germany. Seven years later in 1992, the state government of Rheinland-Pfalz asked us to open a Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center in the well-know Spa of Bad Ems in the former residential palace of the German Emporer, Kaiser Wilhelm I.

In the past 10 years the clinic has become very successful. More than 10,000 patients have undergone the Panchakarma treatment - many of them came several times. About 70 employees are working in our clinic, which has received governmental recognition as a private hospital five years ago. Amoung our guests were many dignitaries from all areas of society. About 400 journalists visited the clinic and more than 1000 press articles and hundreds of television broadcasts have made this clinic very famous. In Germany there are also some other Maharishi Ayurveda Health Centers running sucessfully.

thanks

Thank you for giving details of great Ayurvedic

practitiners in India and abroad especially some

hailing from Pune where I live. I am having a free

demo of simple self-cure for various types back/spinal

aches and pains through instinctive movements of

hands, legs and feet that help cure many other

ailments (see side benefits at www.atbsnr.com) Anyone

anywhere in the world can learn the exercises from

this website as many have already done and have sent

their feedback. When no remedy works, these

instinctive movements that are millions of years old

and specific to various species do work. Hence, let us

write a new chapter on God's ways of healing.

With respects and regards,

I did not participate in this debate because it was a technical issue

and I am not a physician. However I agree with Yashendra that it would

be proper to first question Swami Ramdev and then decide whether he is

right and wrong.

Jagannath.
