Can anyone help me how to pronounce the following verse from Upanishads?

Om Asato maa sad-gamaya;

tamaso maa jyotir-ga-maya;

mrtyor-maa amrutam gamaya.

Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih.

O Lord Lead me from the unreal to the real.

Lead me from the darkness to light.

Lead me from death to immortality.

May there be peace, peace, and perfect peace.

- a Sanskrit invocation from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishads 1.3.28).

Thank-you

Chant and be happy:pray:

i think thats a prayer to Durga? 'Maa'.

She is being the energy of Krishna, (shakti). But Krishna being the (shaktiman) we go directly to the source. Of cource to difference between them both, though the sourse of the power is Krishna. It is something to understand carefully over time.

That was not a prayer for Durga but saying about nature of soul

Sloka says

Soul is not asat (changable) but sat (unchangable)

Soul is not tamas (darkness) but jyoti (illumination)

soul is not perishable but eternal

Jai shree krishna

This one's on Ravi Shankar's "Chants of India" (produced by George Harison).

Amazon has it (but I can't post URL's yet, 'cause I'm too new to the forum). Just Google "Ravi Shankar Chants of India".

But the sound clip doesn't include the actual chanting.

I couldn't find the album on iTunes Music Store, unfortunately.

Gaura Hari!!

Ah! But, if you go to the iTunes Music Store and search for "asato ma", there should be three results. If you preview the 49 second version by Gopa Bose, you can hear almost the whole mantra.

Govinda!!!

Can you give me the link to iTunes Music Store?

Hare Krishna

asato mā sad gamaya,

tamaso mā jyotir gamaya,

mṛityor māmṛitaṁ gamaya |

"Of the unreal not, for going to the real.

Of the darkness not, for coming to to the divine light.

Of the death not, for going to the immortality."

These three open a sacrifice, chanted by the sacrificial priest.

Well, to use iTunes Music Store (iTMS), you need to install iTunes from Apple. It's a free download available at:

w w w . apple.com/itunes/

(I still haven't gotten to 15 posts on this group, so I can't give you an actual link)

Once you have iTunes installed, it should be pretty obvious once you're running it how to get to the music store.

Dayal Nitai!!!
