His Divine Grace Sri Srila Bhakti Rakshaka Sridhara Deva Goswami Maharaja, the founder of the Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Matha, was born in India in 1895, in a respected Brahmana family of the Bhattacarya order, at Hapaniya, District Burdwan, West Bengal. He received his education at Baharamapur University.

Having taken his pious birth in Sri Gauda-Mandal, the holy lands where Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu exhibited His divine pastimes on this earth, Srila Sridhara Maharaja, from his very childhood, had a natural affinity for the mission of Sri Chaitanya Sankirtana, the Grand Congregational Chanting of the Holy Names of the Supreme Lord.

Sri Krishna and Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu both taught Bhakti yoga, the spiritual practice of connecting with God through devotional service to Him. Based on Their teachings, in 1966 A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, referred to as Srila Prabhupada, founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in New York City.

Srila Prabhupada and his disciples popularized the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra in the 1960s and 1970s, and it spread to countries around the globe. Though the International Society for Krishna Consciousness is the legal name for the movement Prabhupada started, most people know it as the Hare Krishna movement.

Srimad Bhagavatam
(
Bhagavata-Purana
)

Srimad-Bhagavatam, an epic philosophical and literary classic, holds a prominent position in India's voluminous written wisdom. This ancient text touches upon all fields of human knowledge.

The timeless wisdom of India is expressed in the Vedas, ancient Sanskrit texts. Originally preserved through oral tradition, the Vedas were first put into writing by Srila Vyasadeva.

After compiling the Vedas, Srila Vyasadeva was inspired to present their profound essence in the form of Srimad-Bhagavatam. Known as "the ripened fruit of the tree of Vedic literature,"Srimad-Bhagavatam is the most complete and authoritative exposition of Vedic knowledge?covering everything from the nature of the self to the origin of the universe.

The first verse of Srimad-Bhagavatam makes clear that because the book is intended for people serious about spiritual progress, it will not deal with sectarian religious ideas, philosophical conjecture, or worldly concerns. The second text promises that anyone who reads the book systematically will achieve the spiritual success meant for all human beings

Chaitanya Charitamrta
(
Krishnadasa Kaviraja Goswami
)

Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita is the main work on the life and teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the incarnation of Krishna who appeared in India five hundred years ago. Lord Chaitanya introduced the chanting of the holy names of God as the prescribed method of God-realization for our time. He began what is today called the Hare Krishna movement, since the movement's founder, Srila Prabhupada, comes in the Chaitanya line of spiritual masters.

Lord Chaitanya transformed the face of India in four respects: philosophically, by encountering, defeating and converting the greatest philosophers and thinkers of His day; religiously, by organizing the largest, most widespread theistic movement in India's history; socially, by His strong challenges to the religious inequities of the caste system; politically, by His organization of a massive civil disobedience movement in Bengal, more than four centuries before Gandhi.

This English translation with commentary, by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, reveals his consummate Bengali and Sanskrit scholarship, his intimate familiarity with the precepts of Sri Chaitanya, and his pure devotion to God.

Chaitanya Bhagavata
(

)

The Sri Caitanya Bhagavata of Srila Vrndavana dasa Thakura is a central work of Gaudiya Vaisnavism wherein the life and teaching of Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu are recorded.

To chronicle the activities of an incarnation of the Supreme Lord, Sri Krishna, demands the greatest of authors, and Srila Vrndavana dasa Thakura displays herein the mastery that confirms the sastric statements that he is no less than an incarnation of Srila Vedavyasa, the compiler of the Vedas.

Siksastakam
(
Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja
)

Issuing from the divine mouth of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the eight verses comprising this Sri Siksastaka shine as the supremely radiant transcendental jewel of the entirety of Indian literature. They are the very essence of all the Vedas, transcendental sciptures. Although its Sanskrit language is quite simple, its import is profound and even if one studies it throughout his life, his study will not come to an end. While one reads and deliberates on this subject, newer and newer meanings come to light. This definitive edition with the translation and commentary of Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja features the soul stirring Sanmodana Bhasyam commentary by Bhaktivinoda Thakura and the Vivrti commentary of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Prabhupada.
