I chant rudram chamakam.

I have heard that you can chat rudram 11 times followed by chamakam.

Is that true? what is the benefit?

Also is it possible to chant rudram by itself? Is there a number (5,

7, 11) which is used for reciting?

thanks.

Ketan

Ketan,

It is wonderful to know Sri Rudram (Namakam and Chamakam parts) in

the right vedic intonation. I'm not sure how you learnt it, if you

were not taught by a Vedic Pandit in the oral tradition OR learnt by

listening to tapes etc.. please do take time to identify a vedic

pandit and recite it to him for fixing any errors in chanting i.e.

intonation and pronounciation. Do offer a reasonable Guru dakshina to

him for the same. Regds its significane here is a quick and short one

from what I read and heard..

Sri Rudram has the power to confer upon the practitioner everything

from health, wealth, prosperity all material benefits as well as take

the individual beyond into the spiritual realm merging into the

Ultimate. As Siva and Sankara He confers material benefits we seek of

him. Through Chamakam chanting you are seeking about 400+ categories

of items that will help one lead a materially blissful life and focus

on the beyond.

As Rudra He can remove the fears and other insecurities that get

us entangled to everything around. As Hara he can destroy everything

about us, so that what is left of us is the indestructible and

eternal Him. The Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra i.e. "Trayambakam

yajAmahe.." that occurs in Sri Rudram can confer longevity and health

on a material plane as well as on the Spiritual plane hasten our

journey to the Immortal Bliss i.e Moksha.

Prasadji,

Thank you again for telling me the benefit of rudram

chamakam. I also have heard about reciting rudram 11 times followed by

chamakam have you heard about it and what is the significance.

I attend pradosh at the temple where we receite rudram chamakam.

Otherwise I have listen to the audio from the CD and recite at the

same time. I have improved a lot and pronouce most of it. Since

currently it is difficult for me to go to a guru, I am making Lord

Shiva as my guru to help me in pronouncing it properly...

thanks.

Ketan

I have a site

I teach the chant to interested students in the UK.I learnt Vedic chanting from
