Dear Ramadas ji,

I have translated herewith what is stated as preface to Sri Lakshmi

and Sri Narayana Hridayam stothrams from the book I have. It is

stated in the preface many times that these stothras should NOT be

recited, unless getting appropriate diksha from a guru. Please see

the translation. Also, if you remember, I was suggested to read these

stothrams by a certain Kamakshi Devi upasaki, but she too told me to

recite ONLY 1st sloka of Sri Narayana Hridayam and 3rd sloka of Sri

Lakshmi Hridayam. Due to this, I'm not reciting the whole stothrams,

as also mentioned in the preface (translated). Would like to know

your opinions.

********************************************************************

PREFACE : Sri Lakshmi/Narayana Hridayam

TRANSLATED FROM: Stothra book by 'THE LITTLE FLOWER COMPANY', Madras.

CONTENTS : Contains two hidden/mysterious stothras namely Sri

Narayana Hridayam and Sri Lakshmi Hridayam from

'Adharva Rahasyaa Utthara Baagha'.

*********************************************************************

These stothras are contained in Adharva Rahasyaa/Uttara Baagha as

being tutored by Rishi Bharghava. Those ancestors of ours who recited

both these stothras have been said to have acquired all kinds of

merits, wealth, health, good children, blessings of Goddess Lakshmi

for generations after generations, longevity and peace of mind. These

stothras are not published commonly everywhere. The reason being that

these were being hidden in Adharva Rahasyaa. Still, our ancestors

have had steadfast devotion to god and were highly moral and never

failed to reveal these stothras to those devotees who were steadfast

in devotion too. Hence, those who know about the extreme power of

these stothras are best adviced to recite these ONLY after being

tutored by a competent Guru. The reason being that, these are 'Mantra

Rahasyaas that are linked to Vedas'. These are highly potent and

capable of granting any wish. Those who cannot afford to being

tutored by a guru can follow different means: the one who is praised

as 'the embodiment of knowledge, the form of divine light, the one

whose body is made of mantras (mantramaya Swaroopan), Amlaana:

Amruthavishadai: Amshubi:', the one who is with his consort Sri

Mahalakshmi, who is Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva, will ensure success with

this mantras when a devotee eager to recite these stothras can pay

Guru dakshina at his sanctum sanctorium and worshipped as being

tutored/initiated into this mantra recitation by the very same god at

his sanctorium and when started to recite on an auspicious day. It is

essential to follow the Anganyasa, Karanyaasa, purashcharyaadi

kramaas from the wise and elderly.

Why these stothras are so important is because these speak loftily of

the prowess of Shriya: pathi Sriman Naraayana, the devotee of Sriman

Naraayana Sri Mahalakshmi and hence they have knowledge and verses

contained in them that surpass the material as well as spiritual

realms in praising god of his power and capacity for sustaining us

all and his kindness.

This stothra stated that Sri Mahalakshmi dwells with Sriman

Naraayana, the para-brahmam in all his 5 states - param, vyuham,

antharyaamithvam, vibhavam and Archai and hence goddess Mahalakshmi

is equal in all ways to Sriman Naraayana. Since goddess Mahalakshmi

embodes in all of bhagawan's vibhavaadhaaraa and along with the

archaamurthy at the temples, it is stated that:

"yathaa Vaikunta nagare yathaa vai Kshirasaagare |

thathaa madhbhavane dishta sthiram Srivishnunaa saha ||

The above rules that in parathvaa-SriVakuntha, Sri Mahalakshmi

attains a state that is equal in all ways to that of Sriman

Naraayana. She also plays an equal role in Antharyaamithvam. Sri

Alavandaar, Sri Ramaanujar, Sri Swami Desikan, all have praised

Goddess Mahalakshmi endlessly proving that she is the one who is most

capable of granting Moksha. Hence one who recites these slokas is

able to get everything. This is so because, if a devotee recites

these with 'parama-bhakti', if according to the 'Janma-libhi', if we

are not destined to have 'Kaarya Siddhi' or goodluck, due to the

power of these mantras, Goddess Mahalakshmi who is the embodiment of

kindness is able to erase the janma-libhi, thus blessing us with what

we want.

The benefits of reciting these two stothras together:

1. Even one who is stricken with extreme poverty would become very

wealthy. Even a mental resolution to recite these stothras is capable

of destroying all kinds of mishaps surrounding a person, since this

stothra equals to that of reciting Sri Mahalakshmi mantra 5000 times.

2. The one who recites this 5 times on each Friday or listens to it,

gets immense wealth.

3. Most importantly noticeable:

When this mantra is recited in pure water mixed with parimalam, and

then consumed, in that whole kulam, a child with faint luck or bhagya

WILL NOT be born. If recited in kheer made of ghee and milk, and then

consumed by a pregnant woman each Friday, she will beget a child who

equal Sriman Naraayana in tejas.

4. When started in Aippasi (month acc. to Tamil Calendar) first with

Sri Narayana Hridayam followed by Sri Lakshmi Hridayam and then again

by Sri Narayana Hridayam, it equals reciting of this stothra once.

SRI LAKSHMI HRIDAYAM SHOULD NEVER BE RECITED ALONE. Based on the

tithi, everyday, once in pradamaa, twice in dwithiyaa, in this count,

if recited till Poornima, that house will have the ultimate blessings

of Goddess Mahalakshmi.

Though this stothra denotes Sriman Narayana and Sri Mahalakshmi in

general, in specific this denotes the divine couple who have

manifested at 'Thiruvayeendrapuram' as Sri Devanadan and Sri

Hamabjavalli Thaayaar.

Hence, one who wants to praise the divine couple with this stothra,

should do so before a framed picture of the couple, after lighting a

lamp and offering flowers. This stothras which SHOULD NEVER BE

PUBLISHED (owing to this being a hidden/mysterious/secret mantra form

of the Veda Shakti of Sriman Narayana and Sri Mahalakshmi in their 5

divine forms as stated as Param, Vyuham, Antharyaami, Vibhavam and

Archaa), have still been published due to the welfare of the world.

Hence, those who want to recite this, HAVE TO RECEIVE THIS FROM A

SUITABLE GURU BEFORE RECITING THEM or should start only after a

symbolic reception of the same from the santum sanctorium of Sri

Lakshmi Hayagriva as stated above, after paying Guru Dakshina to Sri

Lakshmi Hayagriva and then started on an auspicious day. In the same

way, others should not be adviced to start reciting these mantras,

but should be stated to do so by a guru only. The reason being

that, 'Thiruvashtaakshara mantra' which is also another hidden/sacred

mantra that cannot be freely recited was stated by Sriman Ramaanujaa,

who did so inspite of the heavy tax and threat of having to go to

hell due to pulisizing that sacred mantra. The same amount of extreme

respect and caution with regards to the mantra potential has to be

exercised to this stothra.
