Does anyone know what the relationship between Alcohol and Joint pain is?

Yes, alcohol and joint pain are related. Alcohol

is a diuretic ( which makes the body lose more

water and urinate more ) which leads to dehydration.

As the ligaments ( which are soft tissues sandwiched

between the bones ) contain lots of water, and needs

water periodically to have it soft and spongy,

drinking alcohol leads to excess removal of water

from the body, thereby dehydrating the several

body parts. The ligaments are one of the first

to get affected by dehydration, as they contain

lots of water. When the dried out ligaments are no

longer able to provide the soft cushioning between

the bones at the joints,

any movement of the joints can lead to

unbearable pain and arthritis.

Drinking water periodically helps in reducing

the adverse effects of alcohol.

of the body through urine. The dehydrated body can not dissolve these waste. An

important compound uric acid, a metabolic product is alos removed through urine.

The uric acid is known to be involved in the joints pain. The formation of uric

acid also increases with age. This leads to gout and arthritis problems in the

older people.

 

So, drink water nearly 13% of your body weiht daily and avoid alcohol.

Alcohol suppresses the immune system. It is a toxic substance. We can

tolerate moderate amounts, our liver exists to get rid of many toxic

substances we may ingest, which is why alcoholics often destroy their

livers -chirrosis...

 

Arthritis is an anti-immune response, our immune system turns against

our joints, and results in inflamation; our joints respond with

inflamation and the result is a cascading effect: swelling, calcium

spurs, cartilage damage, etc... This is, of course, a simplistic

description of the mechanisms; but you can explore this more. I used to

do AIDS research, so I gained a very healthy respect for our immune

system -it is really miraculous but also fragile and deserves to be

treated with respect.

 

A search on immune system, arthritis, etc will provide a wealth of info.

You will discover an amazing motherload of things that adversly effect

the immune system, depression, emotions, foods, environmental hazards,

vectors like viruses and insects (hiv, lime disease, toxic fumes, etc)

Serendipity often comes into play, if you look, you will find...

 

That said, I believe one should focus on knowing and understanding your

immune system, what in your environment and lifestyle effects the immune

system? your family history? Then explore a combination or cocktail of

methods and supplements, --what works for one person may not work for

you (for a variety of reasons) add in diet (anti-oxidants) plus

meditation and KY.

 

I also find creative visualization very helpful. If you understand the

mechanisms of your immune system and have found the right anti-oxidant

cocktail (supplements and diet) and you toss in the visualization of a

healthy, strong immune system, (which does not attack our body) and

limber, normal joints into your meditations, add to that good stretching

and exercise (KY), I would be very surprised if you do not see a radical

improvement within a few months.

I see it has been 10 years since the above posts about alcohol effects on arthritis, but I am so very grateful to have found them in July 2012! These are such straightforward answers and are so much help. Thank you very, very much. I can now begin to understand how to help my body appreciate a drink or two, while at the same time tending to the needs my body has of processing the alcohol. Bless you all wherever you are!
