I am a new member of this group. I want to know the meaning of one

sloka.

 

can any body give me the complete sloka : satamanam bhavathi satayur..

... and its meaning.

Dear Sri Nagendra Reddy:

 

Sorry for the delay in response to your question on

the aasIrvAdha PanchAthi " SathamAnam Bhavathy ---" .

 

It wishes the Vedic life of 100 years , fully functioning

Indhriyams during those Veda Aayus /Veda PrAyam

and to have all of the faculties established in tact to

observe the Nithya KarmAs ordained by the VedAs and

SaasthrAs and to pursue the noble Vedic way of life

doing Pancha Yaj~nams , SanshyA Vandhanams ,

Service to AchArya , BhagavAn and His BhagavathAs .

 

The text of the PanchAthi is :

 

" SathamAnam bhavathy SathAyu: Purushasyatha

Indhriya yEva Indhriya tE Prathithishtathi "

 

It is an echo of prayer in MadhyAhnika SanshyA Vandanam :

 

" PasyEma Saradha: satham , JeevEma Daradha: satham ,

nandhAma Saradha: Satham , mOdhAma Saradha: satham ,

BhAvama Saradha: satham , sruNuvAma saradha: satham ,

ajeethAsyAma Saradha; Satham ----- ----- "

 

Life for 100 years with faculties and functions in tact

is invoked here , as one looks at the Lord at the center of

Soorya MaNDalam , SrIman NaarAyaNan .

 

In the oldest Vedam , Rg Vedam , there are many manthrams

starting with the word , "Satham " ( One hundred ). One who does 100

yAgams in one's life (Satha Krathu ) is our motto for exemplary

Vedic life :

 

Sathakrathum arNavam saakinam naram ma indhramupa yanthi visvatha:

vAjasanim pUrbhidham thUrNim aputram dhAmasAcam abhishacam svarvidham

(Meaning : My eulogies propitiate always the JyOthirmaya Lord ,

who is the embodiment of aadhAra Sakthis (Vital energies) and

is the goal of all of our sacred Yaagams and Yaj~nams. He is the One

who drenches with all soubhAgyams , leads all His creations ,

provides nourishing food for us , chases away and destroys all

evil . He is swift as the wind in granting us all what we seek

and distributes HIs abundant wealth and confers on us Moksha Sukham .

 

Another Prayer is : "Satham Jeeva SaradhO --" ( Rg Vedam : 10.161.4)

in the context of the Veda Aayus of 100 years.

 

One of these days , I will write about the significance of "Satham "

( One hundred from a Rg Vedic Perspective .
