Namaste!

I was at Arsha vidya gurukulam,Saylorsburg,PA on labor day for a few

hours. There was a puja with chanting of a Dakshinamurthy mantra held

from 9-11 in the morning at the Ashram.

Can someone post the mantra and its meaning?

Thanks,

Adi

Namaste Sri Adinaryan:

The Mantra that you are referring is probably, Sankara's

Dakshinamurthy Ashtakam. The entire Ashtakam along with translation is

available at the Homepage of Prof. V. Krishnamoorthy

GEMS FROM THE OCEAN OF HINDU THOUGHT, VISION AND PRACTICE

Specific Location of Sankara's Dakshinamurthy Ashtakam:

These verses were also posted and discussed in the List discussions

during September and November 1999 by Sri Kathirasan and are available

at the list archive.advaitin/

warmest regards,

Dear Sri Ram Chandra,

Thanks for your response!

The mantra I refer to is a single sentence -meant for japa.A group

puja was being done with continuous chanting of this mantra (similar

to the mrityunjaya mantra japa).It began like: Om namo bhagavathe

dakshinamurthaye....

Thanks!

Adi

Namaste Adinarayan:

The mantra that you are referring to is probably the one in the front

page of the Arshavidyagurukulam homepage:

http://www.arshavidya.org/

Sanskrit Verse:

Om! Ishwaro Gururathmethi Moorthibethavibaagine

vyomavarthavyaapthehaya dakshinamurtheye namah:

Translation:

Unto Him who is manifested

in the different forms as Isvara,

as the Teacher, as the self;

who is all pervasive like space;

unto Sri Dakshinamurthi-

the effulgent form facing the south;

Unto Him (siva) be this salutation!

For advaitans, Dashinamurthy is the manifestation of Shiva meditating

and enjoying the infinite bliss and total peace.

Warmest regards,

Ram Chandran

Note: There can be different variations of the above Mantra and

essentially, they convey the same or similar meaning.
